Hello All, For those of you following this blog since the first post you know that the initial idea was to have the blog turn in a record label. Last fall that dream was almost brought into fruition, but do to the actual finances involved in pressing records I had to back down from the idea...luckily the band I was working with has become close friends. After a long time of thinking about it and gathering inspiration from a bunch of wonderful people ( Mirror Universe , Patient Sounds , Deathbomb Arc , The [...]

Nothing bums me out more than an awesome indie band that releases an infectiously perfect and blissful song that goes unnoticed by the mass populous. That's pretty much what happened with Denver's amazing duo, Young Coyotes. "Momentary Drowning" is everything that's great about music: Woahs. Handclaps. Dreamy vocals. A melody that takes you by surprise at almost every turn. [...]

There's a lot going on tonight and tomorrow, and all of it's going down at Hi-Dive. There's a huge bill tonight that involves Denver kid, the Chain Gang of 1974 and the album release party for "White Guts". The 3OH!3 party monger will be celebrating his first full length (official release date April 26th) with a bill that includes American Tomahawk (new group w/member from Young Coyotes) and one of my local faves, Jonathan + BPro . The Chain Gang of 1974- "STOP!" (MP3) [...]
This past weekend was pretty glorious around Rochester for this time of year; in this particular case, it means the sun was out and the temperature was in the low 40s. This is probably laughable/traumatic for those accustomed to warmer climes, but I love the first suggestion of the impending spring, and celebrated with some [...]

The Young Coyotes are so fucking fun live. From the perfect vocal harmonies and their catchy hooks to their hilarious between song banter these guys exemplify the indie rock trickster. This is gonna be a rocker!! Don't forget about The Pirate Signal either!! Yonnas and A-What are the best thing to happen to indie rock in Denver for many years - and they are a hip hop band!! The Young Coyotes will be playing their first Denver show in months at the Larimer Lounge this Sunday with The Pirate Signal, Chain Gang of 1974, Doo Crowder, Iuengliss and Red [...]

Though released back in March, I find it hard to pass up sharing a band that catches my ear like Young Coyotes have. Hailing from the mile-high Denver pop scene this band renders comparisons to the likes of The Dodos and dare I say a bouncier version of The Shins early prototype, Flake Music. The band digitally released two EPs in March via Brother Bear Records; one being an early recording titled Basement and the other Exhale comprised of new tracks. The former is also up for download free on the band's website . Im [...]
Young Coyotes Guitar player and singer Zach Tipton has a new little side project what what by the name of I am the Dot . Pretty good stuff I have to say. Check that soon to be out on iTunes wickedness HERE . I'll have more interviews written up tomorrow. But only after I help make a mixtape for a wedding this weekend. Boss-a-moss.

My day job involves advising college students about opportunities to study in rad places, and all this week I get to give one of our programs a test run by sailing on a 134-foot ship and, literally, learning the ropes. I'll be sailing out in two hours, under the Golden Gate Bridge, and spending a few days on the Pacific as an active member of a working crew, seeing what students experience on their semesters on board. We dock in Monterey at the end of it all. In addition to being a classroom and lab (I [...]

Gogol Bordello A slow day that found me playing cornhole during a quiet lull before Gogol Bordello. The crowds were visibly thinner, and not so many black Tool t-shirts to be had. The irie mystic feeling was in the air, with The Wailers doing their best to keep the spirit of Marley alive. The crowd helped out by smoking their fair share of gonj, enough to resuscitate Bob. The lineup heavy on the local talent had me seeing 3OH!3 for the first time and a blues legend. Fresh off of their smaller show at [...]

The Golden Triangle sounds like a mystic land of enigma from which no one returns, but it's actually the area of Denver that the 15th annual Westword Music Showcase will overrun Saturday with 85+ ace bands, both local and national. On Saturday, come peruse ten stages of goodness with me; we'll see local bands worth vigorously loving like Everything Absent or Distorted , Young Coyotes and Houses , as well as influential Denver punk pioneers [...]
It might seem silly that something such as a music blog can actually alter your life but the now retired Everybody Cares Everybody Understands did just that, occasionally going far past being simple enjoyable reading with great music attached to it to drastically changing my life for the better. Even if I hadn't previously known the man behind the curtain, Chad, I believe I'd still be mourning the demise of such a wonderful site nonetheless. Chad, who I've never met in real life but have been communicating with via the [...]

Sometimes finding our next local pairing can be tricky business. This is especially true when I have no starting point or frame of reference for a local scene. For example, in order to find the perfect pairing for Denver, Colorado, I had to wade knee-deep in the polluted, murky waters of Myspace listening to streaming MP3s by numerous bands from the Denver area. As you'd probably expect from any local scene anywhere in the world, the majority of what I heard was uninspired and boring. Some of it was nearly un-listenable. Somehow, I emerged from [...]

CLICK HERE FOR DAYS ONE AND TWO LE TROISIEME JOUR Musicians clustered outside their rooms at the Super 8 Motel, plucking their guitars in impromptu balcony performances. You could get whiffs of it floating on the breeze. Austin breeze is wonderful - it knows the instant you get too hot, and then steps in heroically to adjust your personal temperature. Our mission for free food failed, so we picked up some delicious semi-sketchy food from the taqueria next door and sat by the pool, talking to [...]

(Photo by Brian Carney .) Denver's Young Coyotes are prepared to land at several SXSW parties just after lunch today. If you're actually reading this, chances are you're not down in Austin seeing them this afternoon, but instead one of many wishing you were. To lift your spirits (if only a little), here's the next best thing...a Young Coyotes live set from this week's St. Pat's festivities at the Oriental Theater . Bosque Brown - "Went Walking" "Went Walking" is a stunning, eeriely beautiful track off of Bosque Brown 's first full-length release, Baby which hit stores on March 3rd. If you like whiskey, cigarettes or early Cat Power , I highly recommend adding it to your record collection. Young Coyotes - "Momentary Drowning" [Daytrotter Session] Maybe woo hoo ooh hoo oooohohohooo just sounds better live, but this Daytrotter version of the Young Coyotes song "Momentary Drowning" resonated [...]

Something different for the Monday Music Roundup this week: Seven songs from the seven Colorado bands that we are presenting at SXSW for our first Mile-Hi Fidelity day party !
