Shawn Foree's been around for more than a minute, but it seems like things are just now starting to pick up for him. After the tragic death of his close friend Jay Reatard , Shawn's project Digital Leather looks to be picking up steam as he tried to replicate the work ethic of his late friend. On February 14th he'll be releasing Modern Problems on FDH Records , his follow-up to Warm Brother . As the name [...]

The members of Toronto five-piece Young Doctors in Love were apparently brought together by the desire to create 3 minute pop-rock assaults. According to their Twitter feed, they are close to completing work on their full length album, with a last status update in early November. Bandmembers are Lesley McRae, Amanda Li, Peter Gorman, Clay Puddester, and Chris Hudson. FACEBOOK | BANDCAMP | TWITTER Download Oh Caroline [...]
Herohill delivers a tribute album of 'Hall and Oates' songs covered by Canadian artists.

This year we wanted to do something special for the readers. Instead of asking for remixes, new songs or interviews full of badly phrased questions we thought to ourselves, "Selves, what's one thing we love?" Obviously, something involving the Steelers or Bayern Munich wasn't really an option, but our unashamed love of Hall & Oates was one we thought we could leverage. End result, we asked bands to record Hall & Oates covers, hoping anyone would say yes. In the end, we did ok... we got about 11 songs in time for today's launch, but we also have [...]

Just a quick disclaimer here; for those new to herohill we only cover Canadian content so my favorites list - note: not best-of, as that kind of debate is a bit pointless - is kind of like the cast of SCTV or peameal bacon. If it had a sweater, it would be warm and woolly and if it had a favorite sport, it would be curling (or lacrosse?). One quick point of interest; I opted to omit a few bands that offered up killer EPs AND LPs to give a bit more variety in the lists, but overall it's [...]

Toronto's Young Doctors In Love are on of the up-and-coming local bands playing NXNE. I had a chance to ask Clay from the band a few questions about their music: T.O. Snob: You're playing The Dakota Tavern on June 18th as part of NXNE. For people who haven't seen Young Doctors In Love before what can they expect?C:We're a bit more raw and energetic live than we are on the recordings. We also
Two of my favorite up-and-coming Toronto bands will be playing a gig at Sneaky Dee's on Earth Day (April 22nd). Killer power pop trio recordbreaker and sugary indie popsters Young Doctors In Love are two acts that are definitely worth investing some time in. In honour of the day, Young Doctors In Love's set will be completely acoustic. In addition, the band will take a stab at performing at

At some point it just becomes easier to stop looking for the great moment on a good record. It might seem silly to say, but the result is more an more records that get sent our way get tagged with the career stalling descriptor of "they're alright" and proceed to hover near the top of the review pile, but never reach the summit. That's why when a record explodes out of the speakers with energy, confidence and talent, well, it's something to get excited about. Toronto popsters Young Doctors in Love are [...]

When I'm in the mood for writing about something, yet lacking the time for anything too elaborate, I can be very thankful that bands like Toronto's Young Doctors In Love exist. I received their 5 Golden Greats EP in my email inbox about 30 minutes ago, started listening to it about 5 minutes after that, finished it about 16.6 minutes after that and realized that their instantly catchy brand of accessible pop music would be easy to sell in only a few brief words. There is nothing challenging or particularly surprising about [...]
