It's Friday, it's day two of this year's The Great Escape, and I'm mercifully awoken by the patting of a vexed train conductor as we trundle back into Brighton. Up, if not yet at 'em I'm stirred further by strummed susurrations of jarring guitar and bracing billows of jangle. The seaside's alive with the sound of music, but when heard so early it's not all entirely pleasurable. Lawrence Arabia is just that though, and although he may be named James Milne and in fact hails from New Zealand as opposed to the dunes of southwestern [...]

Well, I don't know how many of you were there, but didn't the Meursault Liquid Room show go well on Friday! The place was rammed, gin was consumed in some quantities and even the hangover the next day wasn't all that bad. The sun was out, and it's that glorious time in Edinburgh when the weather is starting to improve, the sun is out and the tourists haven't really turned up yet in any great numbers. Nothing against tourists, of course, just their absence does make the place rather pleasingly peaceful. There are some interesting things happening in [...]
Call it catch-up Sunday, but I think it's better to post a song that's 23 days old than to never expose it to the masses at all. "I Heard" by Scottish trio Young Fathers is one such track; it's hardly "hot-off-the-presses", but it doesn't make it any less write-up worthy. The cut is difficult to neatly categorize, but know this: it's soothing, but rapturous, and offers a fresh blend of indie rock, soul, hip-hop and other unnameable, but creative elements. Plus, that light and cool falsetto is hard not to latch onto. Check it out above, and also [...]
Edinburgh-based Young Fathers have a new video for 'I Heard', ahead of the band's releasing of 'Tape Two' on the 11th of June. This follows 'Tape One' EP released last year; you can grab track 'Deadline' from the previous EP from this previous mp3 of the day post. The band appears at this year's Great Escape on the Saturday. Click here to view the embedded video.

After the highs and lows of the first CITR LIVE party, we’re having to play catch-up. This new cut, taken from Young Fathers' second tape entitled Tape Two, due out in June via Anticon, takes the bands dusty and damaged visual persona and drags it kicking and screaming into an even more dramatic and fully realised space. The track is also bold and adventurous with the bands 3 vocal elements melding perfectly; sweet and serine singing, monotone and sinister rapping with distressed cries peppering the track. Young Fathers [...]

Young Fathers is something between Hip Hop, futureRnB and Lo-Fi Soul and it's exciting creative music. Listen to "I Heard" from Young Fathers. Released through Anticon .
New video from Young Fathers here - the track is lifted from their forthcoming record, Tape Two , which drops in June via Anticon. It seems their videos are as vital as their music.

Edinburgh trio Young Fathers will be releasing the follow-up to their Tape One EP earlier this year with the appropriately titled Tape Two via Anticon on June 11th. Their sound is as eclectic as the members that comprise the band who come from Scottish, Liberian, and Nigerian backgrounds respectively. Everything from r&B to African percussion are represented. The first single from the forthcoming release is "I Heard." You can watch the group-directed video below. The clip conveys [...]

With Scottish roots and African heritage, the trio that calls themselves Young Fathers capture the essence of your aching soul and soothe the broken pieces of experiences gone awry into rhythmic submission on the lead single, ‘I Heard’ off their forthcoming release. With vocals ranging from choral chants to soothing falsettos, serenading beneath a percussion-led beat of the Caribbean persuasion, Young Fathers entraps you with their lyrical tale in a matter of moments. But don’t be fooled by the harmonious purity of the emotive groups’ words, [...]

It was only my third gig of 2013, though Young Fathers' rice 'n' pea-powered Shacklewell Arms showing remains one of the finer evenings out of this one thus far. The off-kilt hip hop trio appeared to come of age there and then upon that most oily of stages, and an incontestable highlight came in the surprisingly refined form of a then unknown track as we now know entitled I Heard. You can hear it below, and combining the slow burn balladry en vogue at the moment having been favoured by all and sundry from Tyler, The Creator [...]

The experimental hip hop outfit Young Fathers drops a ballad that features some quiet bars and some soulful vocals via the track "I Heard." The song is set for release on the group's next album, TAPE TWO , which is looking at a June 11th release on Anticon. Enjoy!

Edinburgh's superb Young Fathers have just dropped the first taster of a new release. Titled TAPE TWO it'll drop on June 11. The track that's brought in the news is the hauntingly soulful 'I Heard' which blends minimalistic production and searing vocal harmonies. Its another top-class release from a three-piece who are fast becoming one the most prolific new acts around. The don't slot neatly into any scene but, as one spin of 'I Heard' will attest, they really don't need to. Stunning.

Kit Carson, frontiersman and mountain man, allegedly gasped out the words "I wish I had time for just one more bowl of chili" before succumbing to an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Considering he lived his final years in the great state of Colorado, one can infer that Kit wasn't just talking about any chili. He probably was referring to the green kind. Green chili you say? Yes, green chili. It wasn't a dish I had dined on until my visit to Denver. Here I dined on it four different times. It was served with Breakfast Burritos. It was served [...]
Chrome Kids Radio Show (Mar - April 2013) by Chrome Kids on Mixcloud I still struggle when trying to describe what it is we play on the show, but as we step into spring whilst still in the grip of a bitter winter it starts to make ever more sense. For those non commital types amongst you, here's a selection of tracks from the show. If you dig them, chances are the show was made just for you.

Rap group Young Fathers is finally back with some new tunes after their great mixtape, Tape One . On "The Guide" they are bringing their mysterious flair and unique style to a brilliant new level. They use a entrancing beat that just circles around in your head forever, or so it feels. What they do to further this effect is with the first MC using whisper quiet vocals that just adds this atmosphere in a hip-hop song that I've never felt before. It is unbelievable how much shifting the tone of your voice down can effect the mood of a [...]
I had the privilege of seeing Nicolas Jaar and Matthew Dear — two of my absolute favorite electronic artists — at the same show at SXSW last week, but it was the group that played before them that I remember best from that night, if not the whole week. Young Fathers have a sound that comes close to an industrial, hip-hop take on TV on the Radio at times, if it really reminds me of anybody, and a stage presence reminiscent of Death Grips . The Scottish hip-hop [...]
