From Arts & Crafts comes Young Galaxy , a Montreal five-piece that's been drawing comparisons from everyone from Pink Floyd to Luna to label-mates Broken Social Scene and whose ethereal rock songs aren't so much in soaring in the stars as they are hovering in the fog around a glacier. "No Matter How Hard You Try" shimmers without shoegazing and concedes "You won't get out of this world" before gliding off on background "aahhhhh"'s and guitarmalade, while "Come And See" is as straightforward a pop song [...]

Another Arts&Crafts artist who has released their debut self titled album is Young Galaxy. The duo is from Vancouver but have moved to Montreal in order to record their self titled debut album. Their album was released on April 24. Tracklist: Swing Your Heartache No Matter How Hard You Try Outside The City Lazy Religion Wailing Wall The Sun's Coming Up And My Plane's Going Down Searchlight Lost In The Call Come and See Embers The [...]
Young Galaxy was created at the intersection of Catherine McCandless and The Stars' (there they are again ) Stephen Ramsey, and expanded from there. Their songs shimmer & glow, even as their guitar solos rage and burn. Here's the video for their new song, Outside the City . I love the chorus: Outside the city I see/I see I'm inside out . Here's the mp3: [...]

So much music, so little time. Over the weekend I dug back into the SXSW 2005 site and found another 50 or 60 songs I rated at three stars or better. (Translation: I like 'em a lot.) For the next several weeks I'll be working in a few per day, along with current goodstuff I happen upon. Thanks to visitor "John's" recent tout, Ireland's Ash have been for me one of the most exciting close
Young Galaxy is one of the bands I listen a lot to at the moment. They're from Canada, and is fronted by former Stars touring guitarist Stephen Ramsay (and there are two other Stephen's in the band as well + Stephen's girlfriend Catherine + Pat + Susan = 6 bandmembers). Their music is not very different from Stars, - a bit "wider" and "spacier" maybe. I'm not going to say more, - just that they

All the way back on January 2nd of this year, I posted about Young Galaxy , the new project of one-time Stars affiliate Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCrandles. At that time they had released an internet only EP, Swing Your Heartache , and set out on tour with The Dears after announcing that they had signed with Arts & Crafts . This week sees the release of their debut, self-titled album, so I thought it would be worth revisiting what has grown to be one of my [...]
I think this weekly post needed it's own unique image. Usually I would spend so much time looking for random images to use or band pictures but I had some spare time on my hands to whip up something right quick. From my terrible Photoshop skills, this is the crappy result. If someone else would like to submit an image for the Graboid than please feel free, but this will do for now I guess. I was very surprised at how many albums I managed to squeeze into this week's Graboid as I think this might be the [...]

This blog has been giving me many heartaches the last few days, but whatever...It's not about the blog URL or how many stats I have it's about the music. Young Galaxy just released their debut album today, this band that hails from Canada can make some fantastic indie pop-rock indeed. I love everything they do, I really don't think they can do wrong. mp3: Outside the City - Young Galaxy mp3: Searchlight - Young Galaxy Young Galaxy 2007 - [...]
Here are some bands or albums I have had a chance to listen to. Most of them, I haven't liked. Some of them, I'm pretty lukewarm on. And some, I did like. As always, you can make up your own mind. Tori Amos - American Girl Posse. Amos has transformed herself from naughty maiden to mother, and I'm not all that fond of the move. "Yo George" is ridiculous and "Big Wheel" is ... well, we all know someone that's old trying to be cool and [...]

Photography "Underwater Nude" by Libor Spacek I've been wanting to post Young Galaxy since I listened to them. But, the size of the tracks was beyond my previous file host's limitations. Side projects are usually not very good. There is a reason why you are the guitarist or drummer or whatever, but not the leader of a band. Fortunately, this was not the case of Steve Ramsey of Stars. Though their discography of dream pop is very brief, it's very promising. They came on shuffle yesterday and I'm [...]
Stephen Ramsey, long-time touring guitarist for Stars, has formed a band with Catherine McCandless called Young Galaxy . He said he did not want the band to seem like a side project of Stars so naturally they named it something way bigger with gas, dust, and dark matter thrown in there too. And they signed to the same record label – Arts & Crafts. Nonetheless, his spacey guitar work, the deep drones of their keyboard, and their dreamy vocal combo make for a good listen. Young Galaxy recently toured with [...]
Arts and Crafts' recent signees, Young Galaxy look to expand the label's already sterling reputation. New album due spring of this year, but for now you can enjoy my favorite song of theirs. MP3: Young Galaxy - Swing Your Heartache "Swing Your Heartache" catches Young Galaxy in a state of granduer. Around ...

Stephen Ramsay of Stars has a new project called Young Galaxy , which Arts & Crafts recently announced signing. Young Galaxy is the work of Ramsay and partner Catherine McCandless, who together have crafted some space-age bachelor pad indie-pop launched squarely between Broken Social Scene's more ambient, free-floating sounds, and Stars' rocket-fuelled melodies; a perfect fit for Arts & Crafts, then. Young Galaxy have been touring the U.S. with labelmates The Dears, and are gearing up to release their full-length debut later [...]
Alt-gramma and I were lucky enough to see an emerging band from the musical wonderland that is Montreal. The Young Galaxy opened up The Dears' show at the El Rey in Los Angeles last night (December 2, 2006). This was just the band's fourth time playing together, according to the co-lead singer, Stephen Ramsay. The other co-lead singer, Amy Millan, is a member of Stars, another band on the Arts and Crafts record label, along with the Dears and Broken Social Scene, to name a few. I searched around the web a bit before [...]
This site's file-hosting problems have not been solved, but I have a band-aid over the wound for the moment. My ISP only gives 800GB of bandwidth a month, and I'm afraid you all will suck it away in minutes, so I'm still searching for something as gullible useful as EZarchive. If you download the song below, let me know how it went! Too slow? Didn't work? Anything. So I have high hopes for Young Galaxy's new album, set for release in spring 2007. This is about as advance as I [...]

Arts & Crafts Records has signed Montreal's Young Galaxy . The band consists of Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless (yes, there are two s's) with male/female vocals and a self-described "heavy tone." The band will be touring this fall, opening for The Dears . They've added a few friends as touring members as well, so if you go to the show, that's why there are more than two people. They have also recorded their new album and will be releasing it through Arts & Crafts [...]
