The new year always brings massive periods of reflection for me. Not only do we all start a new chapter, but I have a January birthday, so I'm looking ahead and acknowledging my past simultaneously. I assess where I want to be, areas of life to improve and lessons to keep in my back pocket. I've always been an extremely deep thinker, and music significantly marks and highlights different seasons on my life. Blind I is making some exciting changes this year and it's beginning with revamping the way we approach our compilations. I [...]

Well after another long hiatus from 'DROP ON A CLASSIC' I have returned my deepest apologies I have had a lot going on of late so sorting things out has been hard. But its not about me its about showcasing this great music and the story behind it. So this time we got Charizma and Peanut butter Wolf. These two guys are one of my favorite musical duos of all time and I feel they deserve my respect massively for getting me through so many tough times and great times with their crackin music. So here comes the breakdown but [...]

The story goes that Jim Morrison hated Light My Fire, The Doors' great breakthrough hit. Recorded in August 1966, it was released in January 1967, at the dawn of the so-called Summer of Love. If it was true that Morrison disliked it, I'd sort of concur with his judgment. In fact, he didn't hate the song, but resented that he had only a small part in writing his band's signature hit (most of it was written by guitarist Robby Krieger). I don't like The Doors much, and have more respect than affection for their version of Light My [...]

Young-Holt Unlimited – 'Light My Fire' Originally the rhythm section for the Ramsey Lewis Trio, Eldee Young (bass) and Red Holt (drums and percussion) parted ways from the group in 1965 as a result of shifts in the power dynamic between the three musicians that followed the commercial success of The In Crowd LP. As a newly constituted ensemble with a pianist on board, the group scored a quick Top 20 R&B hit with 'Wack Wack' in 1967 before another change in line up that heralded the formation of [...]
Happy New Year. I'm back from my two week (unplanned) hiatus. It's been awfully quiet around here the last few weeks, largely due to the holidays, entertaining house guests and general apathy about writing. December and January are notoriously slow months for new music, so I haven't been shopping much. One of my Xmas gifts was a gift certificate to my fave shop, so last week I splurged and used it
