This week's round up of the tracks I've not had the space to post ... Mark Stewart From: Bristol, United Kingdom With the Bullingdon bullies taking Britain back to the 70s we need ex Pop Group singer Mark Stewart and his politically charged blend of polemical lyricals and industrial dub more than ever. [...]

London duo Crushed Beaks release their debut single, 'Close-Ups' this week. Alex Morris and Matthew Poile started the band last year after apparently bonding 'over their shared love of Italian horror films'. Surprisingly, this talking point does seem to claim a place in their music. It's gallop... Read more..

Younghusband's just released Crystal EP follows their debut single, Carousel/Nothing,Nothing , which we heard back in June. The four tracks on Crystal throw thick layers of sound at their impressively infectious Pop-hooks. The casio-keyboard rhythms on the swinging ballad, Constantly in Love , tick amidst the warm waves of guitars and synth-work. And two tracks later we are in hazy Kraut-rock territory with Special Reunion , a blissful piece of pop if ever we've heard one. So for a band that only got it together last year, it's looking like 2012 could be [...]

Younghusband - Crystal EP By Antonio Tzikas Combining solid pop sensibility with '60s psychedelic, soul and fuzzy indie influences, younghusband release Crystal , their debut EP, through Sonic Cathedral this November. With only four songs on display, it's a short, but sweet introduction to the London four-piece and a brilliant opening statement from the band, who have garnered a few celeb fans in the form of Jarvis Cocker, Guy Garvey and Marc Riley since their 2010 formation. Now, I've not really been impressed with the [...]

Artist : younghusband Title : Crystal EP Label : Sonic Cathedral Release Date : November 21st Words by Mel Reeve Woozy yet rhythmic, echoing surf-pop but with a darker edge – there is definitely a lo-fi feel to this EP, perhaps not surprising once you're aware that younghusband began as a bedroom recording project by Euan Hinshelwood, who's also a member of Emmy The Great. It's [...]

London band younghusband are gearing up to release their new EP. Crystal is out on November 21 through Sonic Cathedral and you can listen to the fuzzy guitar pop of opening track Tropic of Cancer below.

Euan Hinshelwood plays in Emmy the Great 's band (he's one of two Euan's in the band, actually, or at least he was) but makes his own music too under the name Younghusband . Unlike Emmy's lovely, confessional folk, Younghusband is more indie pop oriented, owing a lot to The Go-Betweens and other jingle-jangle melodicists. While it began as bedroom recordings with three 73s on Culturedeluxe , Younghusband is now a proper band and have just released their first record in two years - a new 73 on the [...]
Its Monday once again which means its time for a trawl through this week's harvest of singles in search of something just off the beaten track worth a listen. The History Of Apple Pie You're So Cool When listening through 'You're So Cool' you find yourself immediately transported back to the memory of some sleepy beach barbecue smouldering under a rosey orange sun burnt to the horizon line. You passed out listening to an old Idlewild CD and Belinda Butcher singing 'Drive It All [...]

While their meaning and significance seemingly reduces with every passing day, there is still something a little bit special about a bands debut single . Despite there no longer being the market there was once was for them in terms of sales and revenue, a bands first single can still be used in the same way as it always has been; not just as an introduction to the band but also a statement of their intent. Next week sees the release of Carousel , the debut single from London four-piece Younghusband and, as statements of [...]

I realize that I post a lot of news and finds on my twitter @eardrums that never gets published on the blog. I'll try to post some of it here and also some of the stuff I get in my mailbox that I never manage to do something about. I'm hopeless with continuity, but I will at least try to do this weekly. Let's start with some "VERY SHORTIES" and below this, you will find a lot of free goodies: [...]
Last year saw the emergence of a group of South London folkies, interconnected and explicitly good, and they created, defined and redefined the conceptions of 'folk' music for a new audience. Pioneers like Noah And The Whale, Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn are all still going strong, and we still really like them (in case you haven't noticed), but their genre redefinition is complete for the moment, and I've found myself wondering where folk might go next. But if 2008 and the beginning of 2009 was a period of these indie folksters, let me be the first one [...]

Tom Henry Jones By nature, I'm an album guy and prefer to let my impressions of an artist unfold over forty minutes or so. But sometimes I get swept up in the joy of the single - the one individual song - and give the "repeat" button on my CD player a workout that more than makes up for its usual state of neglect. Such was the case of "Nitrogen Pink", the first single from UK singer-songwriter Polly Scattergood (her real name). Musically, it unfurls from a simple, unadorned intro to a thing of [...]

When UK neo-folky Emmy the Great was here in March to play SXSW (and NYC) she was flanked by two, yes two, Euans as her accompaniment. One of them, surname Hinshelwood, makes music on his own under the pseudonymn Younghusband . Both are signed to Culture Deluxe in the UK and while we wait for Emmy to release her much-awaited debut (finished but not out till next year) might I suggest you check out Younghusband's debut EP, The Judas Cow ? Where Emmy's music is fully within the folk idiom, [...]

In our final installment of 20 Questions for 2007 (quick, someone pass me a tissue) we grabbed Young Husband (aka Euan Hinshelwood) by the scruff of his neck to answer our, by now legendary questions. And thank god he did! Otherwise, we'd never have found out about his 12th nipple. Where would you be without us supplying you with this vital information? If you haven't already sampled Young Husbands delightful psychedelic indie then head on down to the bottom of this post where you can pick up a live performace of "Painted Pictures". Expect more [...]
