Young Magic's, Melt is a folktronica wonderland. Young Magic is a collective based in Brooklyn under the Carpark Record label. The band came together when Isaac Emmanuel came back to the United States after traveling the world. Music Player (reviews): [...]
Isaac Emmanuel's probably not a household name, not just yet. With that in mind, 2012 seems perfect for his project, Young Magic , to break through to the masses, as he's already gotten a lot of attention from the press. We were fortunate to catch up with him before he headed to SXSW to get a brief glimpse inside his mind. You can check out his SXSW dates after the interview. Thanks again to Gloria for setting things up! ATH: What is the most challenging thing [...]

I’m usually pretty skeptical about solo artists who perform on stage with just a laptop accompanied by only vocals. It’s a lot to demand from your audience, assuming that they will remain attentive and that the music will stand alone. I find it creates an awkward tension between audience and performer most of the time. For me, it results in an exchange of awkward body language. Instead of focusing on the performer, I am overly aware of the constant shift of my arms from the crossed position, or their constant search for my cardigan pockets. I [...]

![[Review/Listen] – Young Magic – “Melt”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4112444_lg.jpg)
Tweet After a few, carefully planned singles, Young Magic has produced a proper debut album that dabbles in modern electronic-based music. While “Melt” works within the confines of these popular techniques, Young Magic struggle to make their songs stand-out amongst their peers. “Melt” opens with “Sparkly,” a track that sums up the strengths of Young Magic as a music entity. The tribal percussion works [...]

If Stout Cortez's band name was indeed inspired by a line in a Keat's poem, I'll have an even more starry-eyed affinity for this solo artist, opening tonight for Korallreven and Young Magic at the Black Cat Backstage . A self-appointed “interstellar yoga spaceship jammer,” Stout Cortez’s breakthrough single “Berliner” is so good you’ll find yourself scouring the Internet for more of his tracks. The song launches with interlacing vocals over a star-scape of luscious synth. Fans of CEO, OMD, etc., should venture to [...]

The 405 Plastic Platform C09: Faws The elusive Irish producer, Faws made serious waves in 2011 with his EP Antonym, and started 2012 off right by dropping a sick little mixtape for UK outfit The 405 . This mix gives some insight into the young artist’s influences, which [...]

Young Magic Exclusive Interview: Young Magic February 25, 2012 by Chuck Norton If you read DeadJournalist.com on a regular basis, you will have noticed that I have showcased Young Magic several times in the last six months. And for good reason, because the New York-based trio could be one of the break-through artists of 2012. The band formed in 2011 after Australia-native Isaac Emmanuel concluded a journey that took him from Europe to New York to Mexico. While in Mexico, he and fellow [...]

Melt, the full length debut from Young Magic , out on Carpark Records , is now available to stream. continue reading >>

There is a translucent quality to S. Maharba 's rework of Young Magic 's "Night In The Ocean", contrasting and enlivening the static nature of the original. Emotively deep washes of reverb enhance YM 's vocals, further defining Maharba with these hues of soft focus. I'm also loving Young Magic 's use of visuals from The Color Of Pomegranates (which you must check out ) in their [...]

by Andrew Sacher Young Magic at Mercury Lounge in 2011 ( more by Jessica Amaya ) Young Magic released their debut album, Melt , last week (2/14) via Carpark and played a release show in NYC at Mercury Lounge this past Saturday (2/18). How was that show? Melt , which you can stream in its entirety on bandcamp , is a fairly solid debut. Think Yeasayer's percussive psych [...]

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good. Brooklyn-based collective Young Magic had a relatively exciting 2011. Releasing two 7”s, supporting Youth Lagoon and being named in The 405's Ones To Watch for 2012, it's not the worst conditions to release your debut album in. The album in question is called Melt and is released through Carpark Records. Patience is the key with Melt . If you wait long enough, you will be rewarded, but if you have to wait too long, then it probably means that this isn't an [...]
