![[Premiere] new Young Man: “StrangersR 21; (The Great Red Shark Remix)](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3009911_lg.jpg)
If there is one thing we know well and love more it's Young Man , the musical project of Chicagoan Colin Caulfield. His debut EP Boy is like being a bowling pin on The Big Lebowski theme night; you keep getting knocked over, stood back up, and knocked over again in a different way each time thereafter. Young Man's music, however, has far more charm to it than a smokey bowling alley known for its well waxed floors and strong white Russians. Just in case they drop the disco ball while [...]

“Strangers” - Young Man Young Man , also known as Colin Caulfield, premiered a new song on My Old Kentucky Blog today. This song is beautiful. You know it’s a good sign when the song sounds like it’s coming to an end and you feel your shoulders slump, your eyebrows furrow, and sadness rolling in…but then the sweet guitaring picks up again and it all floats away. Young Man, you may have just made my Monday. [...]

MOKB just premiered this new track from Young Man. He's the new Frenchkiss signee, so you'd better take this moment to get acquainted before he blows the hell up. MP3: Young Man - Strangers I doubt the guys in Animal Collective will ever do any production work, but if they ever let their Beach Boys [...]

Newer Frenchkiss signee and MOKB Presents veteran Colin Caulfield, aka Young Man , is releasing a new song through My Old Kentucky Blog today. Young Man quickly built internet buzz around some amazing YouTube recordings, while drawing praise from indie rock luminaries like Bradford Cox of Deerhunter/Atlas Sound. Strangers , a song full of sage motherly advice, starts off like a lovely lullaby and then kicks into laid-back, free-wheeling road song that makes you wish summer was still around so you could wheel around on your bike, in the sun, [...]

Forest Flower Colin Caulfield captures the chilling essence of Panda Bear and Grizzly Bear in his captivating folk pop, with rising vocal inflections shattered by reverb and organs saturating the melodies with the warmth of a Wes Anderson film soundtrack. The classic guitar melodies and strong vocals instantly grab attention for their other worldly maturity and spell binding prowess. Caulfield exudes this in his songs despite perusing the questions of adulthood in his debut EP, Boy , out on [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Panda Bear, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti "Young Man - Up So Fast" What's so good? The impressive melodies and captivating guitar lines of Young Man's Colin Caulfield, an English/French lit major at Loyola University Chicago and a shape-shifting singer-songwriter, has all the ingredients needed to compete with the latest and greatest. His newest album, Boy , is a heartwarming soliloquy defining the most precious moments of a [...]
When Barry White first sang "I can't get enough of your love, babe" I'm pretty sure he'd just returned from the year 2010 in his time machine, having just heard yet another Colin Caulfield demo on YouTube. Of course by "love" he meant music, and "babe" is a term he'd use regardless of the sex of the person to whom he was speaking... but yeah, I'm convinced, as in "pretty sure" he was talking about Young Man and his consistently high quality of music being produced. All of this nonsense is to introduce [...]
I don't mean to brag, but IGIF's two shows at CMJ this year were pretty fantastic. Some people would disagree , but if staying out until 4AM is a bad thing then you probably shouldn't be living in NYC. If you couldn't make it out this year, Nathaniel's been doing a pretty good job recapping the madness for you all. But we've got another treat thanks to the diligence and professional work of our friends at The Wild Honey Pie , who came out and shot some pretty slick video footage. Unfortunately some asshole at [...]

Last Thursday, during I Guess I'm Floating's CMJ Showcase at Pianos, we shot a couple song during emerging Chicago band, Young Man's amazing set. This wasn't the first time we caught the act live, and it will, undoubtedly, not be the last. The band absolutely killed it during their daytime set, as a crowd of industry folk and fans alike watched on. You can watch their incredible cover of Velvet Underground's "All Tomorrow's Parties" over on I Guess I'm Floating , who are co-premiering these videos [...]

It's back! Chicago's top winter music festival, Tomorrow Never Knows returns for its seventh year from January 12 - January 16, 2011. TNK has become one of Chicago's most anticipated musical events because not only is it in a dead time, musically and weather-wise, but it serves up the best of both national and local acts. A quick glance at the initial schedule looks promising thus far. There are big names such as Besnard Lakes and Freddie Gibbs performing alongside up-and-coming new local groups such as psych outfit A Lull [...]
The Owl Mag's NYC staff brings you still more CMJ 2010 bands worth knowing about...and recounts an on-stage marriage proposal! More like it: CMJ Saturday Highlights, 10/23/10 CMJ Wednesday Highlights, 10/20/10 CMJ Friday Highlights, 10/22/10

As I mentioned yesterday (or very early this morning, as the case may be), CMJ Thursday was JAM PACKED. I got to spend the day taking pictures at the Impose/Pop Jew party, and those will be up on Monday most likely. After leaving The Woods, I decided that I was going to take it slow for the night, go over to Music Hall of Williamsburg for awhile, catch the showcase there, and take the easy walk to the L train on home. I saw Young Man. They were ok. Kid has a really cool voice. But do they deserve all [...]

It's time to face facts. You have some tough choices to make during the day on Friday. First of all, there's some great NYRM-approved bands playing at Cake Shop. Rooftop Vigilantes, Your Youth, and Yellow Ostrich. If that were a show during normal times, it would in and of itself be a can't-miss. I'm pretty sure this also has free Sierra Nevada. Then there's the monster BrooklynVegan show at Public Assembly, which also has free drinks and food, I believe. John Vanderslice, Times New Viking, Dom, Ty Segal, Oberhofer, Lower Dens, and The Luyas. That's oh-my-gosh-are-you-kidding-me- good. The Impose day show [...]

PS I Love You - "2012" In a corner of the Cavalho Forest, I kneel amid dry ferns and open the lighter I bought at a store. The flame stands up like a little soldier. It does not waver. I press it against the sunbaked bark of a fir. I do not do this out of spite or self-interest. I do it for the reason I tore the buttons on my coat; for the same reason as floods through dams, storms through skies, knives through muscle. It is not that the ends justify the means, it is [...]

At least CMJ Thursday is pretty straight-forward during the day. It's the I Guess I'm Floating (one of my very favorite blogs) Pianos day party. It's pretty much wall-to-wall worthwhile bands including Baths, Beach Fossils, Oberhofer, Teen Daze, Young Man, Braids, and Gobble Gobble. The nighttime gets much more complicated. Of course, part of this is that by the third day of CMJ, whatever showcase you go to probably has at least one band you've already seen, and it's harder to skip around from showcase to showcase in NYC than it is in the nicely walkable Austin, Texas. [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News CMJ Music Marathon takes place this week and Spinner's in on the action with streaming sets from some of our favorite acts. We kicked things off with Michna , Jamie Lidell and Gold Panda earlier in the week, and next, PVT , Young Man and OFF! will take over our studio with live performances on the Interface from AOL headquarters [...]
