Tweet Young Prisms - "I Dont Get Much" San Francisco Band of the Year: Young Prisms I've watched these guys develop as artists over the past year, honing their live show, tightening their sound. From sneaking in the back to catch them at the Hemlock all the way to New York for some showcases, they've continued to get better. They get louder and louder each time, but simultaneously refine their melodies and musicianship as that noise builds. [...]

After closing their old space five or so years ago, The Lightbulb Club will be hosting their first official concert in their new space this Friday, Dec. 10th. Everyone's got their old JR's story, but isn't it about time to put those to bed? Consider this a call to arms for Fayetteville: Let's be sure that we don't miss out on the next White Stripes, TV on the Radio, or any of the hundreds of new, exciting bands that played the old JR's. Less than a month after the announcement and they've already [...]

Photo by Chris Zakorchemny Young Prisms San Francisco's Weekend are a deceptive bunch. It's just three guys from the West Coast, but they haven't lost their wall-of-sound influences during their time in the valley (and they didn't bring the sun with them on the road, either). The band's versatility in stoner minimalism, breakneck punk, metallic guitar clangs, and strung-out vocals add up to a rewarding payoff that shakes your bones and kneecaps in rhythm. It's an easy practice to compare Weekend to a slew of other dark-and-heavy post-rockers (both [...]

Young Prisms performs 11/26 at Kung Fu Necktie FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26 The good news: for a holiday weekend, there are a surprising number of great shows going on—all of which provide the perfect opportunity for getting away from your family. The bad news: Just about all of those shows are tonight, which means you'll need to find a different excuse for leaving the house Saturday and/or Sunday. As for tonight's best bet, well—we've already hyped the KT Tunstall show at The Trocadero earlier this week, [...]

This will be a barn-burner. And barring any unforeseen circumstances we'll be there, finally seeing Young Adults for the first time. Very excited. This will sell out. Buy tickets here .

Braids @ Cake Shop, NYC: photo by Michael Ligon Ok it's been about a month since coming back from my 5-day long stay in New York City and I still have a couple of days to cover, so I do apologize if these next few posts seem rushed, because well they are. Day four started out with me packing as I unfortunately I had to check out of the Jane Hotel as I was unable to book it for the next few nights, but before checking out I took it as an opportunity to [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music It may not have been the weekend yet, but San Francisco noise rockers Weekend treated their Wednesday show as if it was already Friday night. Having only formed a year ago, the band released its debut record 'Sports' on Nov. 9 and have been garnering plenty of buzz. On Wednesday, to promote the new record, the trio opened for fellow Bay Area group Young Prisms at the Subterranean in Chicago. [...]

by Bill Pearis DOWNLOAD : Weekend - Coma Summer (MP3) DOWNLOAD : Weekend - End Times (MP3) DOWNLOAD : Young Prisms - Sugar (MP3) Weekend are pretty clean-cut looking dudes who make a dark-edged squall that shows a direct through-line from Joy Division to Jesus and Mary Chain to Ride and beyond. I caught them last night at Cake Shop and despite a few microphone problems I thought they were pretty [...]

Last Friday, the first single from Young Prisms' debut LP on Kanine Records was released to the world on Pitchfork . The song about white powder will be accompanied by 9 other tracks, several of which have been released on split 7's and Daytrotter throughout this last year but the January 18th release date for Friends For Now can't come soon enough. Sugar [...]

It's been a while since Young Prisms ran roughshod over these pages but we're glad to be welcoming them back with open arms thanks to the foggy headed, slow blooming, billowing bummer energy of new track "Sugar", pulled from their debut LP 'Friends For Now' which lands in January next year on Kanine . Still a few copies of their Transparent released split 7" with fellow SF'ers Weekend available to grab here . Young Prisms - Sugar [...]

The Wednesday nightcap of CMJ at The Delancey featured 5 uniquely different bands. San Diego-based duo Tape Deck Mountain played a laid back set to compliment their post-fi sound. Their songs "Scantrons" and "80/20" got the most reaction from the packed Delancey basement. A vast majority of the crowd was unfamiliar with the band, but gave a very warm applause as they completed their set. ------------------------ Also from California, Young Prisms [...]
When people think about San Francisco and its iconic music scene, many tend to reflect upon the psychedelic days of yore when mind-altering substances took hold. Musicians were laid-back souls who used ambiance to create a mood that embodied a very specific time and place. It doesn't seem like much has changed on Young Prisms ' upcoming full-length release for Kanine Records , Friends For Now . Keeping some of the free-spirited nature of their home state alive in their songs, the San Franciscan quintet update the musical mindset of the 1960s and provide us [...]

Oh my goodness. Now that I've just gotten home from day 3 of CMJ, day 2 seems like ages ago. I can hardly remember what happened. Actually, there was some pretty good stuff, and you can check out my visual record of it over at Impose right here . I started the day off at Chocolate Bobka's CMJ party at Pianos. Family Portrait were, of course, my personal standouts. Those guys know how to build on a guitar riff, all the while giving off the impression that they're concocting something completely original with their guitars. San Francisco's Young Prisms [...]

View their stellar picks below. Visit Young Prisms on MySpace. Friends For Now will see daylight on 1/18/2011. Be sure to catch Young Prisms at Kanine's 2010 Official CMJ Showcase (Matt Heart Spade will be DJing all evening long). Suicide - Cherree (A bright song from these legends that takes over your brain.) Trailer Trash Tracys - Candy Girl (Sooo good, sweet and catchy. Plus - who hates candy? This is a complete pop song.) Matrix Metals - Ray [...]
