Dinosaurs and our first Canadian postcard! Addressed, of course, to our wonderful Canadian music columnist, Brittney from Young Rivals currently touring with Hollerado. (click on the postcards for easier reading)

Nova Scotia band Young River have just released their self-titled debut album. The band have worked hard locally, both on their own and supporting other artists such as Carleton Stone . The band's sound is best characterized as emotional indie rock music. That's not to be confused with Emo. Heartfelt vocals and earnest arrangements evoke thoughts of City And Colour , but there's a hard-to-pin-down east coast sensibility to the music that scream Joel Plaskett . The pinnacle is "Older Than Eros", a beautiful track that [...]

Toronto - 2010 was a pretty good year for music, yet many of my musical highlights involved music that was not new or at least new music by older artists. It was a year that saw numerous band reunions - I saw Thrush Hermit, Soundgarden, Swans, Suede and X Japan - as well as the return of bands who had been away long enough that it seemed like a reunion (Teenage Fanclub). Still, although I spent much of my time looking back, there was a lot of new stuff to get excited about this year. So here's list of some stuff I liked. [...]

2010 is almost ending soon and its time to do a year end list on music. I know its going to be annoying for those "Best Of" list. I think its fun doing it. Starting today I will re-listen the albums that came out in 2010. (Sorry EPs and albums that came out in late 2009 can not qualify) I will be doing a Top 50 list. Like I did last year I will post them separately from #50-#41 and etc. There might be last minute changes, some albums might be dropped out and [...]
Canadian all-female Weezer tribute act, Sheezer covers El Scorcho and Holiday for Southern Souls.

We Are Trees Going into 2009's CMJ Festival , Surfer Blood, The xx and Warpaint were poised to be the breakout acts. In 2010, the field is wide open with over 1200 bands seeking approval from NYC audiences. Still, the bands that should generate the most attention are Lord Huron, We Are Trees, Cloud Nothings, Lower Dens, Wild Nothing, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Circle Pit, and Yuck. Out of that group, I expect Lord Huron, We Are Trees, and Lower Dens to come away with the most accolades of the festival. [...]
