Today must have been the day for unexpected covers. In addition to Frank Ocean covering Radiohead, Hugo Manuel aka Chad Valley did this surpisingly excellent rendition of Paula Abdul's "Rush Rush" with just the help of a piano. Check it out below along with the video for the original featuring Keanu Reeves.

What is it about noise? I'm not talking about delicate twinkling or refined chord progressions-no, I'm thinking about noise , that impossible-to-ignore wall of sound that every so often takes us over in a way we can't explain. Above all else, Your Youth seem to be a band interested in finding their way to that sonic place, and with Battery , the moments where they succeed at finding it more than make up for the rest. "What Smarts" is our first taste of the duo, with a bouncy intro that almost immedietly bears down into distortion heavy guitar, backed by [...]

For just two lean-looking guys hailing from Brooklyn, Your Youth manage to make a helluva big fat juicy sound with their new punk ditty "What Smarts." Although reminiscent in some aspects of the 90’s Cali snot-punk wave, there’s something a little too jovial in guitar/vocalist AJ Wolosenko and drummer Sean Adam’s delicious hooks to be branded as bratty. That and Wolosenko’s endearingly off-kilter vocals are so earnest they remind one a bit more of pre-grunge era J Mascis. Your Youth has also figured out how to [...]

Long holiday, the weekend has me zonked from tryptophan, complex carbohydrates, and maybe a litte holiday cheer. 'Tis the season and there are lots of great samplers that will be posted over the next few weeks. Tonight, we have two samplers from indie labels: Love Our Records and Old Flame Records. BEST OF Love Our Records SAMPLER Love Our Records (LOR) is out Great Britain, based in London. They are committed to supporting and nurturing new music, and are offering a 10 song [...]

New Jersey group Titus Andronicus give us the business with their anticipated third album on which they trade concept for execution. Local Business is the closest thing to actually attending one of their live shows and features, according to our Music Director, Don Yates, "a cleaner and slightly more polished sound, generally more compact songs, less ragged singing and more personal and direct lyrics." And in case you're thinking this is a more grown up version of the band, he adds that it "hits just as hard as before, combining stirring folk-influenced melodies and energetic rhythms [...]
Your Youth leans more toward grunge than labelmate Cloud Nothings on "Thick Gold," off the Battery EP (Old Flame). "Thick Gold" has traces of melodic punk that go well with Your Youth's thick vocal drone. Download "Thick Gold" below. "Thick Gold" (download):

We have a new track from longstanding favourite Amen Dunes , Sixteen comes from the forthcoming arts and literary project The Unified Field , and we also have a second taste of Why?'s new album in the shape of Strawberries . Your Youth is a loud alternative band from Brooklyn that doesn't totally exist, [...]
We here at ATH had a late night last evening, bouncing between one of the busiest nights I've seen, so I'm in need of energetic tunes today. Jumped on the punk rock wagon this morning, and now Your Youth is just giving me a good old alternative kick in the ass. At first, you're really sort of expecting some sort of radio pop tune to come out, especially with the casual intro, but trust me, the song blasts off loudly, bringing the jams straight to your head. Such energy is fitting considering this tune [...]

Words and pictures by @amandadissinger It was a Saturday night. The crowd was full of realll cooool kids (including Steve Wozniak, seriously) anxiously waiting to see Cleveland’s Cloud Nothings . The Cloudies played their entire new album, Attack on Memory , out January 24th via Carpark and some old faves with support from Hunters, Plates of Cake and Your Youth. Brooklyn duo Your Youth kicked off the night with their signature brand of bratty, hooky punk rock. The dudes were [...]

Hoop Dreams started gaining some attention in late spring when the sextet released its debut 73 with Captured Tracks , so by the time CMJ had rolled around they scored a number of really great showcases. Back in September, the young project played label mates Widowspeak's album release party, which was the first time I caught them live. With only a couple of singles out and about, sometimes I get nervous for young bands like that when jump into the heavy concert rotation circut, but Hoop Dreams sounds incredibly tight live so I can rest assured. [...]

It seems like every time we turn around Dylan Baldi and the Cloud Nothings crew are staking out some kind of new sound and taking it up a notch or two. "No Future/No Past", shaved off their sophomore effort Attack on Memory, gets a sweet production kiss from the always magical Steve Albini. It's a new direction, omg! The record is due out January 24th via Carpark , but in the meantime Cloud Nothings is hitting up Glasslands on 11/12! [...]
