Ok, this one is about a month over due, but its better late than never right? Right. Lets go then..... Is there anywhere else quite like the creative musical hub that is Oxford? With Trophy Wife, Chad Valley, Pet Moon, the returning Jonquil & of course Foals (to name but a few) all contributing to the regions vast array of talent. 'Blessing Force' HQ is certainly thriving right now. "Its dead

It's fucking criminal that whilst so many bands continue to drag their fetid corpses on long past anyone else ceased caring, Youthmovies have opted to bow out right at the top of their game. Always the most interesting of the whole mathy-rocky scene thing, tonight the Oxford five-piece are on fire, possessed of an energy and conviction that few bands ever attain, let alone those just one gig away from their demise. Yet it's hard to stay sad in a room this packed and with a volume this brutal: even side-of-stage [...]
A weird gig, seeing the a band in the final throes of life whilst greeting in my 22nd year and the effective end of real birthday presents. Either way, they were ace and you can read a review of it all here: http://www.thisisfakediy.co.uk /articles/live/youthmovies-dea f-institute-manchester and a track: Youthmovies - Archive it Everywhere (live at ATP) [ last.fm ]

Here I am again, improving your Mondays with some delicious music! So let's Goooooooooooooooooooooo! People tend to use the term 'remix' too loosely. When you have tracks like ' Magdalen Bridge / Golden Palace ' (Hugo Manuel) taken from Youthmovie 's Polyp EP, you can't really apply the term 'remix' to it, since it's not simply re-mixed and spliced up so the structure of the song is altered, it's essentially a total re-work of the song, and contains next-to-none of the original song's music. The only resemblance the track has to [...]

I begin this fashionably late Mag Munday with a delicious B-side :) It's Youthmovies , and it's the wonderful ' After The Kicking K '. Exploding with bursts of snare and brass, before churning out its big thick bass-line, pounding away. The song carries you into a lull of dreamy post-rock, carefully building into the second half of the song, with soaring brass and gentle guitar work. I'm glad I discovered this song, tucked away as a b-side of 'The Naughtiest Girl Is A Monitor', it's one of my favourites now! :D Mp3: [...]

Most people rush into these top album lists mid-December, but I've decided to chill out and really think hard about my top 10 favourite albums from the year that once was. Okay, I lie, I just haven't got around to it yet. But here it is anyways. :( So, 2008. It was a toughy, and apparently not so many solid albums were released throughout its economically crashing months. Despite the drought, I've still managed to find a good deal of great new artists and albums, a few of which made my overall favorite albums of all times! So [...]

Right then. Here we go. Over the next few weeks I'll be posting up my albums of the year, in order, all one-hundred-and-thirty-one, from the most dreadful to the very best... 131. One Night Only 'Started A Fire' (Vertigo) – Worst Album Of The Year. Don't let em fool you. 130. The King Blues 'Save The World. Get The Girl' (Island) – Shameful cockney trollop. 129. Katy Perry 'One Of The Boys' (Capitol) – Single good. Album shocking. 128. The Fratellis [...]

"It's not going well and it's not going badly. It's just going." Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies didn't die, they just made their name easier to google. Youthmovies , the Oxford, UK based super quintet is ostensibly the coolest band, with their mix of trumpets and technical guitar mastery as a testament, to come out of the much renowned university town in the past few years. After meeting at university themselves, the band has shared the stages with some of England's finest young indie bands while at [...]
