![[NXNE] Yukon Blonde Live at the Rivoli- June 15th, 2011](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3532915_lg.jpg)
by teepoo If Jesus had a clone on Earth, it would probably be Yukon Blonde frontman Jeffrey Innes. Later on in the night he even takes the stage shrubbery and wraps it around himself. The dude totally knows he looks like Jesus. If Jesus sang like him, I wouldn't be an atheist. Yukon Blonde was the night's not so "secret guests" of the Nevado Records showcase. They played for a pretty full house with more than 100 people in line wishing they were in the show. [...]

Fang Island three guitars and sometimes a microphone Welcome to the laziest type of music post you'll ever get out of the RS blog. Here's three great songs by three equally progressive prog rock guitar bands. Punk IS Dead! MP3 by Gondliers from their EP2 get it here . It's amazing what you can do with some speed, chops and a octave pedal these days. There should be more music in the works from these Somerville Massholes as they just added a singer. Making them a trio. So [...]
New music from Canadian indie-rock band Yukon Blonde
Canada has produced a lot of great things: maple syrup, hockey and funny accents. Now you can add one more item to that list: Yukon Blonde . They've been around since 2005, but the band changed their name and their sound in 2008. The changes were a nod to their roots in British Columbia and helped them cultivate a serious following north of the border. It’s only a matter of time before their master of retro power pop translates to crowds in the States. “Wind Blows” combines airy vocals and twangy guitar that seeps into your subconscious and echoes [...]

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY APRIL 6 through TUESDAY APRIL 12, 2011. WEDNESDAY APRIL 6 / NAT BALDWIN / DOUBLE DOUBLE LAND / 209 AUGUSTA AVE / $8 / ALL AGES Nat Baldwin - best known as a member of indie band Dirty Projectors - returns with a new album People Changes (May 24th). Seeming more like a combatant the way he strikes his bass with its bow, Baldwin grips his audience in silence with fierce, bottomless flourishes. Toronto's Picastro , [...]
Yukon Blonde. Another great Canadian band based out of Vancouver BC. You may be more familiar with their pervious title “Alphababy”. Their self titled album came out last year and they toured hard. Making appearances across Canada and the US. Playing festivals such as NXNW and SXSW. It just shows how great the talent is in the north especially from the West Coast and British Columbia.
Yukon is the brainchild of Dutch producer, arranger, composer and bass player Hans Weekhout scored a big hit in the Nineties as Capricorn with 20Hz. His arranging and producing skills didn't go unnoticed and he worked with Prince and Falco. With another one of his bands, Peplab , he composed the score for Mr. & Mrs. Smith , a flawed blockbuster that couldn't be saved by his music. Famous For Nothing, Ready For Anything is a labor of love. Weekhout wasn't on a schedule or a budget, which allows [...]

'09 or................. '06 I guess. When Lindsay Dobbin - aka Broken Deer - recorded Our Small Going , it was a DIY release that got some great press (and had different title), but when you are isolated from large urban centers and tucked away in Whitehorse, it's tough to build a fan base no matter how good the songs are. Thankfully, good music will always eventually get heard, and with the support of the Gandhara project - they do amazing runs of 100, hoping that the unique sounds and cover art draw you [...]

I know we call ourselves the Canadian blog, but truth be told we've neglected a substantial amount of land that lies to the North. Sure, we mentioned Kim Barlow's collaboration with Mr. Kom , but we' haven't covered any artist from the territories. Well, this morning that changes. Kyle Cashen is the front man and songwriter for a rotating cast of characters known as Crash the Car . I suppose, naturally, that location really plays a part in shaping these epic, sad, beautiful songs, but I really had [...]

Summer is probably not the ideal time for listening to a collection of songs detailing a relationship slowly breaking apart into unsalvageable pieces, but sometimes timing can't be helped. Yukon songwriter Kim Barlow and The Burning Hell front man Mathias Kom have joined forces to write a break-up record that tugs on your heartstrings but still manages to make you laugh even when the two lovers cry. Their new band - Spring Breakup – uses nothing more than simple ukulele and banjo riffs and traded couplets, but anyone familiar [...]
MMTPCT : MUSIC MAKES THE PEOPLE COME TOGETHER #8 So I've had this feeling that I've been posting a bit too fast, especially that our traffic has been boosting like there's no tomorrow. I decided that I wanted to give you guys the chance to cruise around and give everything I post a good listen, because it's worth it, and after a week-long hiatus for this part of our blog, MMTPCT is BACK with it's 9th edition of remixes. Have a blasted weekend and see you Monday with a nice lil' surprise... [...]

In order to get into a good mood for this weekend, how about some reasonably good news from the European Parliament? This recent vote slaps down the recent threats by ISPs to simply disonnect people accused of naughty file-sharing. The joy of this is not that I am necessarily in favour of completely unrestricted file-sharing of any and everything, but that if you are going to threaten something as drastic, in the 21st Century, as cutting off someone's internet access then you had better have some independent oversight of this kind of decision. [...]

I owe this find to Hank over at Dark Forces Swing Blind Punches , who wrote about the Baltimore based Yukon back in December. With always having a backlog of music that I either need or want to listen to, it at times means I am late to the game, so to speak. Regardless, it took me awhile to fully listen to Yukon’s debut album Mortar , which came out on Terra Firma Records last year. When finally hearing the record, it really didn’t take [...]
Atlanta music blog Cable & Tweed has a lot of good stuff posted at the moment. Before going away, Rich posted a mix of a dozen or so new bands, not one of which I'd heard of, which shamed me rather. Anyway, I have posted my four favourite tracks from the mix below, and if you pop over there and read the post properly , then there are at least half a dozen more gems in there. Highly recommended!
