I have a bottle of Vicodin in my bathroom cabinet and a shelf of booze in my living room and when I listen to Gemini , the debut album from Wild Nothing (Jack Tatum) , I find myself longing for the floating woozy underneath a cloud of blankets in bed mixture of the two. His music brings to mind Slowdive, The Cocteau Twins and more recently, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, but there's also a completely pleasing and unexpected tropical undertone. I'm re-tagging this entire album Balearic shoegaze and checking out for the summer. [...]

On the eve of a still Thursday night, the Bacardi Express rolled into Brisbane. After winning tickets online, a group of us were pretty excited to hit up this completely free gig presenting five completely awesome artists. Arriving early to make sure we got through the doors, we were surprised to see a line already stretching down the street from the Tivoli. We joined the end and crossed our fingers that we would be able to jump on board the Bacardi Express. Well. If more companies realised the lucrative business in [...]

Attention live music lovers: Local boys Yves Klein Blue and Last Dinosaurs are teaming up with Cloud Control for a series of super awesome (and cheap!) gigs across Australia's major cities and regional areas throughout March and April. The YKB boys have been busier than a one legged arse kicker – bringing Brisbane's best to the UK, touring regional Oz with Bluejuice and kicking it at Falls Fest. Just last month they also jumped on board the Bacardi Express soul train with the likes of La Roux, Art vs. Science, Miami [...]

Pre-banger now disco dude Fake Moustache let slip this remix of Peter Brown's 'Dance With Me' as a debut under the new moniker. Top notch production and sneaky change up around 1:39 means this will suit the the modern funksters to a t. Peter Brown - Dance With Me (Fake Moustache Remix) ysi 256Kbps extra pressie is Jon and Pat of The Lost Valentino's and Knife Machine as Jaguar Paw and their cosmic/retro flip remix of Yves Klein Blue's 'Make Up Your Mind'. Yves Klein Blue - 'Make Up Your Mind' (Jaguar Paw Remix) ( mp3 ) Yes, more YKB. Methinks someone slipped some speed to their marketing team 'coz the dudes are everywhere right now. This time we've a remix by Jaguar Paw, a new Lost Valentinos side-project from Jono Ma and Pat Santamaria to compliment their other (darker) LV side-project, The Knife Machine. Surprisingly, YKB frontman Michael Tomlinson sounds pretty cool when pitched up. www.myspace.com/yveskleinbluem usic

This video came via email from an average uni student from Australia (hey hey, if you're reading this, you know who you are). Since we can never have enough rock-piano bands and videos that make wonderful use of that neato tilt shift effect , here's Yves Klein Blue with Make Up Your Mind - a single from their 2009 release, Ragged & Ecstatic . Thanks to Craig for the wonderful tip.

Homebake is Australias premiere all-local festival, boasting an illustrious heritage cemented in the history books of the Australian music industry. What sets it aside from other festivals is its support of home-grown music and new talent, as well as its commitment to philanthropic causes. I had a hell of a lot of trouble getting this list together. Relistening to albums, figuring out which ones to cull from my list. I rediscovered some great great discs though. And my top 10 will be just below...for you! But first off, I feel as though there are a few albums I should give a small shout out to. Although these discs didn't make my top 10 list, they did make my shortlist (a list that ended up being not very short at all)...and man it was difficult trying to cull that down. So, [...]

Video: Yves Klein Blue - Make Up Your Mind I blogged about Australian indie-poppers Yves Klein Blue 's latest Ragged & Ecstatic a few months back and just stumbled upon the video for their second single and album opener "Make Up Your Mind." It's an upbeat number that sounds a little out of place in the winter months, but I'm okay pretending for a few more weeks if you can.

Two words to sum up the Wolfmother gig would be sweet and sweat. From the start it seemed like I was witnessing the birth of a new Rock God, and it really was at the end. Capitol was about half full and the bars were getting a workout when first supporting act Sydeny troubadour Jack Ladder strode onto the stage. Accompanied by Kirin J Callinan on guitar and a loop machine, Ladder displayed the richness of his sensually seductive vocal, performing a great mix of [...]

When this album finished playing on my ipod, I wanted it to keep on going. Maybe it was just the moment (train travel can be pretty boring sometimes), or maybe it's the fact that Yves Klein Blue are an extremely underrated band, deserving of much more than a little bit of triple j radio play and a lot of word of mouth exposure. Musically, these guys are really interesting. You can tell there's a whole heap of influences in their music and their sound isn't strictly dictated by current radio, or even current western music. The track Polka [...]

As sometimes happens, you go to see a series of bands and the level of interest weirdly diminishes from the outset onwards! Which is not to say say that the headliners aren't any good; in the case of last weekend at the Oxford Street Art Factory in Sydney, Yves Klein Blue were great and they had a uniquely bouncy indie pop sensibility that revved up the crowd real nice and kickingly to the finish without any reservations. Even their 2nd tier support act, Philadelphia Grand Jury, has one of the best honest-to-goodness acts I've seen for some time [...]

"You'll soon find it's not fun to have fun all the time." Eager young Australian four-piece Yves Klein Blue , named after post-modernist French artist Yves Klein, have plenty of reasons to be a bit starry-eyed. Their debut album is, in both name and substance, a testament to the Brisbane band's collective demeanor and their simple "just-happy-to-be-here" disposition. Ragged & Ecstatic , which follows the Yves Klein Blue Draws Attention To Themselves EP, is already critically lauded in [...]

Photo: Cybele Malinowski Yves Klein Blue have just released their debut album Ragged & Ecstatic - an unpredictable, 12-track composition of wailing vocals and a diversity of instruments; the album definitely exhibits the versatility of the Brisbane quartet captured under the bright lights of Hollywood. The opening track "Make Up Your Mind" was a struggle however the preceding track "Getting Wise" with it's catchy melody is definitely a track where you bust out the air guitar piano. "Digital Love" feels dark but that's what I like about it - [...]

Hope everyone had a good 4th of July. To celebrate, lets go a little international. I met Micheal of Yves Klein Blue last month. I think I met the rest of the band too. But I couldn't tell you for sure because I was too smitten with the earnest, uber polite, clean cut, straight- outa -the-1950's lead singer. Smitten. Are they named after the paint colour? Or the French artist? Who knows. They are a four piece from Brisbane and I'm thinking big things are really in store for them. Even if you have never heard of [...]

Polka - Yves Klein Blue Australian band Yves Klein Blue lend their fun little ditty, Polka , to a neat Mitsubishi commercial in which a young couple packs up their car from the second floor of their house: While the song compliments the fun and upbeat nature of the commercial, its lyrics carry a far different tone: Sid was at the gates of dawn [...]

ok. I realised I've been a bit slack with the new music posts. So, here is one right now. Simple. I'm really excited about this post because I don't know if I've loved every track as much before. First up is a local band, The Middle East. Yes, you read right. Local Band. They've got a track called Blood. It's one of those tracks that just sorta builds and build and makes you feel so happy towards the end. The Middle East - Blood ( iTunes , [...]

busy busy but free free ok. so I've been a little non comital lately. I got exams on next week and i'm trying to study study study for them. There's only two, and I'm not absolutely freaking out. But, give me time and I will I'm sure! Haha...anyway, just to keep the momentum up I thought i'd put up a post with a few tracks that i'm listening to of late. They're all awesome of course. Hehe. Anyway, better get to it. Field independence and field dependence is calling me. [...]
