On August 30th, Hella fans will be delighted with the release of Tripper , the latest effort from the Sargent House . Featuring Zach Hills ' frenetic drumming and Spencer Seim 's shredding guitar riffs, Tripper is certainly a release we are quite excited for. Below, you can check out the tracklist for the new album, along with opening track, "Headless." DOWNLOAD :: Hella - "Headless" [ via Sargent House ] [...]

Since dropping There's No 666 in Outer Space back in 2007, Sacramento, CA noise rockers Hella have gone on their own musical journeys. Guitarist Spencer Seim played in the Nintendo cover band The Advantage and worked as a solo artist under the sBACH monike, while drummer Zach Hill did some stuff with a little solo work of his own and played in a this band called Wavves . Now, the duo are reuniting for a new album, Tripper , which will drop on August 30th [...]

Death Grips // Exmilitary It’s funny that this mixtape by Death Grips dropped around the same time as Tyler, the Creator’s Goblin . Both are rap albums that tend towards the more hardcore side of the genre and both entertain the dark innermost thoughts of a madman. And although their styles are quite different I can’t help but compare the two in my mind. After listening to both extensively I can confidently say that in my opinion Exmilitary comes out on top. Death Grips is a trio whose members’ [...]

At long last, Ben and I have emerged from the depths of Finals-induced hell to bring some actual activity to this blog. Whether or not such collegiate woes are a valid excuse for our downtime (they probably aren’t), we’re now back to provide you with your required dose of music, snarkiness, and long, overwrought adjectives. Due to the enormous amount of submissions and releases that landed while we were out, I’ve gathered some favorite new jams into this all-encompassing catch-up post. To anyone we missed: we’re sorry. Mountains — Thousand Square [ mp3 ] [...]
Hella - (untitled) MP3/download HOLY GOD, one of my all-time favorite bands, Hella, just BLINDsided me like Sandra Bullock, releasing a HOT-AZZ new track that returns to the two-man-band format we all know and love (or at least SOME of ... Continue reading

Zach Hill. Spencer Seim. Back together at last. You should remember Hill, the mad drummer man, from earlier coverage on this blerg . (You already dled the free Death Grips mixtape , didn't you?) Hill notified the twittersphere today that an MP3 from their new record was available for stream/dl, and Stereogum hopped on the write-up, which is hilarious. Not a lot of news to report on the record itself - like this new jam, it is thus far untitled and has no specific release date, although we do know that distribution will be capably handled [...]
Death Grips' first mixtape is a grim look at mankind's worst personality traits:: greed, addiction, anger. And the beats are just as offensive as the screamed rap vocals-which only helps get the point across. It's an energetic record. It's an intense record. Sometimes it's over the top, but I love it. While everyone else is either dancing in the streets behind a certain dead someone, watching someone famous deejay another famous person's song or saying that the recording industry is dead due to them not selling records anymore, people are still killing shit the right way. Enter: DEATH GRIPS. Zach Hill (the drummer behind math rock riot band Hella) and 5 of his homies are just setting California's capital ablaze with this out of control shit. When the above video was shown, it seemed like every nerd and underground denizen jumped for motherfucking joy at the thought of dudes being allowed [...]

Being a huge Zach Hill fan, I have been closely and eagerly following the news surrounding his new Death Grips project, offering as it does a means of holding over my appetite until the new Hella record drops. Hill is not only a frighteningly virtuosic percussionist; he is also one of the most consistently rewarding and prolific experimental musicians/composers alive. Apparently he now belongs to Death Grips, which is ostensibly a hip-hop outfit, inasmuch as hip-hop is music featuring an MC who rhymes. Filling the lyrical duties is an imposingly bearded friend of Hill's whom, according to [...]
Raleigh Moncrief - "Lament for Morning" MP3/download I do quite a bit of trawling for new, interesting or otherwise arresting MP3s, and todays' travels have led me to Raleigh Moncrief. Is this guy related to Robby Moncrief? Has he worked ... Continue reading

Holy shit. So drummer Zach Hill has been a busy bee lately. Some jam sessions with friends have evolved into the experimental mutant hip-hop project known as Death Grips. Check it out below, "Full Moon" gives new meaning to "going hard". People who are prone to epilepsy should probably not watch the video. In fact, they probably shouldn't listen to this song at all. The rest of you can pick up the track below. Don't forget to check out Death Grips' website for more. Thanks to Altered Zones and The Needle [...]

Raleigh Moncrief is Sacramentos’ multi-talented and multi-instrumentalist producer Robby Moncrieff. Most known for his work and colaboration with the Dirty Projectors , What’s Up , Zach Hill , and the videogame cover band the Advantage . Add in the list the latest recording of the critically acclaimed band the Ganglians . Lament for Morning starts with a repetitive chopped vocal loop and continues with epic videogame-like synthesizers that drives you to an ecstatic lament. Can’t wait for his debut full length album called [...]

It's no secret that Nathan Williams teamed up with Zach Hill to record an entire Wavves album that we've mostly never heard. But the songs we did hear—especially "Cool Jumpers"—were great, if overly busy. It ... read more

Two days ago Wavves posted three demos that he recorded in 2009 with Zach Hill. The three songs are "Goldy Lox", "Hula Hoop" and "Glued". All three are rockin' garage jams that sound like a summertime statement. All three are incredibly strong tracks that deserve to be included on a future release. If not, that's ok too, because these are quite good as they stand. Stream all three below via Nathan's Ghost Ramp Blog : WAVVES 'GOLDY LOX' FEAT. ZACH HILL by wavveswavves [...]

Wavves just released a few “old” tracks featuring drummer Zach Hill. Titled “Goldy Lox” “Glued”, and “Hula Hoop”, respectively. The first is an instrumental, while the second is a lower mid-temp garage jam, and the third being the most quintessential Wavves track. WAVVES ‘GOLDY LOX’ FEAT. As promised last month from Wavves aka Nathan Williams, we were going to get a floury of new music from him over the coming months. Firstly we got " TV Luv Song " then " King of The Beach " and along with that there was " Horse Shoes " which featured Zach Hill and his crazy beat making fury. Yesterday three brand new (old) tracks appeared online from Zach Hill and Wavves and you can enjoy all three below. Keep your eyes peeled as no doubt in the coming month or so we will get [...]

And the Wavves news continues to roll in: after being announced as a part of Adult Swim's Ragbag of Jollification , frontman Nathan Williams took to Twitter earlier this afternoon to drop three older tracks from when he and drummer Zach Hill were merrily making music together. The three offerings, entitled "Goldy Lox", "Glued", and "Hula Hoop" respectively, are yours to check out below. The first is a tsunami of noise and feedback coupled with some gnarly drumming from Hill. The second cut serves as a nice transition into the sound utilized on [...]
