Zachary Cale + The Whiskey Holler + Meeting of Important People Club Café (21+) / 04.27.2012 / 10:00 / $6 Words by Brendan We're back with another special evening of hand-picked local and national acts! After the rocking tunes at Brillobox in February, we're paring everything down and having an acoustic evening. Heartfelt and twangy tunes, foot-stompin', whiskey-drinkin' (and hollerin'), and all that jazz. Except for the jazz, actually ... Come on down to the Club Café on Friday evening and share the good times with [...]

Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Zachary Cale co-runs All Hands Electric, an artists' collective and record label set up with friends in 2008. He plays guitar and sings with local indie band Illuminations who produce a tumultuous REM/Big Star-like sound, and his musical CV also boasts a number of interesting side-projects. Cale has developed this support for local artists alongside his own career, with work set firmly in the new-folk genre with both traditional and modern influences. His most recent album Noise Of Welcome was released earlier this year, the follow-up to [...]
BEST OF 2011 : Songs | Albums (soon) | EPs/Singles | Discoveries/Heavy Rotation | Photos A really good year! The first 40 or so are mega-jams and the latter 38 (Rawkblog loves you, baby) are still jams. I purposefully left out songs by Destroyer because I couldn't decide, so consider Kaputt represented. You can play the entire page with the handy Ex.fm player in the bottom right corner, stream the playlist on Spotify and Rdio , and download everything after the jump. [...]

Genre: Singer-Songwriter, Folk Label: Daytrotter Recently we (the dfbm staff^^) got the opportunity to finally see one of our favourite singers live in Leipzig. We really enjoy the music of Zachary Cale, so he was already featured a few times here at the blog. It was a great pleasure (except from the sometimes a bit annoying audience) to see him playing some of his wonderful songs, kind of acous [ This is the summary, read the whole story on Website ]

Before we begin, I have some news about The Indie Sabbath . This is going to be the last regular Indie Sabbath for a month or so. Last week, I mentioned that I would be leaving to help with the disaster in the south this coming monday. Assuming the world is still here by the end of the night, that is still the plan. For those of you who haven't read last week's Sabbath, let me catch you up. Starting Monday the 16th, I am going to be traveling to Missouri to help with the relief effort. This is [...]
This morning's show was the first of the summer semester - but in the same timeslot, since I'll be sticking to Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon for the next few months. I hope you like the time as much as I do, because it works well with my new gig and to me it seems like I have more listeners than ever. Even if you don't find yourself near a radio on Tuesday mornings, remember you can also listen to the show live via http://wrvu.org or via either our iPhone or Android app. [...]

Zachary Cale is a long pull of whiskey that burns just right.

Back after a short hiatus for just another Wild Weekend . The weather's fine, my team just won the Spanish league for the third time in a row and is on its way to Wembley for a big showdown, and the hits just keep on coming. On to edition #59 forthwith then so, with laidback alt HipHop from Basehead, crazy rockabilly by Tyrone Schmidling, and hot toasting courtesy of Prince Jazzbo. Irie times. But let's begin with some deep soul, confusingly known also as northern soul (because they loved it up [...]

Words by Brendan. Pittsburgh photo courtesy of Hugh Twyman Summer concert season is getting underway, and this weekend is perfect evidence of that. There are plenty of options and we're sure you'll find a show you'll want to see. You might even find too many! Stream some songs right here and read up on the bands hitting stages all over town in the next few days. And wish that you had a teleporter and a time machine to make it to all of them. Nik [...]

Way back during the formative period of the Paper Crane Collective, I signed on to feature a monthly mix called Something for Later . The name of the mix came from a folder I use for tracks that didn't quite make it into the Dadada's monthly mix ( Blogophilia ) or something that was a little unusual deemed for a different kind of mix. Well, my hard drive is full of mp3s in folders marked Something For Later . Making a mix from these folders was an easy decision. This month's mix features tracks posted to our blogs and others [...]
[ MP3 ] Zachary Cale - Mourning Glory Kid

Zachary Cale has got in touch a couple of times recently with tracks from a recent 73 and from his forthcoming album called Noise of Welcome . Sometimes when you get sent a lot of music stuff can slip through the cracks, it's not much of an excuse, but it is the truth and such is our excuse where Mr Cale is concerned. While at first it would seem this is some (albeit rather fine) singer-songwriter material there are soon hints that all is not as straightforward as it seems. There are other forces [...]

I was going to delete this e-mail, like I do nearly every e-mail these days. Why didn't I? Sometimes you win the lottery. Zachary Cale is a Brooklyn songwriter of uncommon power, whose Americana opus "Hello Oblivion" evokes the Beatles' "Julia" by way of Dylan's warped croon and balances flawlessly between beautiful acoustic guitar work and a thunderous climax. Take a deep breath for this one. Zachary Cale - "Hello Oblivion" : mp3 ( Noise of Welcome is due May 17; the LP release is limited to 400 [...]
