Herohill delivers another fantastic compilation, with 'The Bard of Montreal,' their tribute to Leonard Cohen.
Zachary Lucky 's new album Saskatchewan (fun fact: that is also where he is from) is out now. I haven't had a chance to listen to the full thing yet, but given his track record and the above video, I'll go out on limb and say that it is great. Swing by his Bandcamp page and find out if my prediction is correct. In fact, I think I will go do the same.
ANDY SHAUF - Covered In Dust from Mitch Fillion (southernsouls.ca) on Vimeo . Today we have a couple of videos from a couple of guys that know me as "that old guy they had coffee with in Calgary one day". Yeah, its not hard to think that way when you meet up with a couple of talented young musicians on a tour stop in Calgary. Early last year Myself, Andy and Zachary visited a local coffee shop near my day job and we had good coffee, a couple of laughs and a good conversation. [...]

Even though folk gets the least amount of attention on Indie Music Filter, there's a special place in my heart for the genre. When I crave a story over an infectious beat, I turn to artists like Zachary Lucky , who has just released an eight song ep titled "Saskatchewan". He feels it paints a picture of Saskatchewan that people haven't seen before. Do yourself a favour and get familiar with him and his province. He's also on the road, making stops in as many small towns in this country as possible. This week, he's in that really [...]

(J. Isaac) Zachary Lucky says that he hopes his new EP, Saskatchewan, paints a picture of his home province that people haven't seen before. Here is the picture it painted for me: The flat and even plains of Saskatchewan spread out before me like a 3-D picture book image, the kind that you reach out and try to touch with your hand. I am at the edge of a lonesome highway spreading out to my left and right, as if this particular spot I'm standing [...]

![[Listen/Download] Zachary Lucky- Back in the Fall](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4083624_lg.jpg)
Zachary Lucky's music is honest and gorgeous in delivery. I kind of love the pedal steel and banjo. The twangs make me wish I was out of a busy city in the middle of a field enjoying a beer. Even though this song is about a past relationship gone wrong, it's beautiful. I secretly hope that if I break a guy's heart some beautiful love songs come out of it. Back in the Fall is a new track from Saskatchewan EP which will be released this March. Zachary Lucky- Back in the Fall [...]

Today's song of the day is from Zachary Lucky and his track "Back in the Fall" from his upcoming album Saskatchewan (some say EP, some say LP, some say who the hell cares, just let us hear it already). The song is simply fantastic. Whether it is the lazy banjo, the pedal steel or the honest delivery (when his voice just starts to crack when he first sings "Back in the Fall" - it's killer). The song is seems like it is not necessarily a story about a past relationship rather than a mantra to himself [...]

Zachary Lucky sounds like man that had love break his heart and the road break his spirit. Words fall from his lips, heavy and heartfelt, and you wonder how a man so young became saddled with such weight. Lucky's anguish is the listener's reward. "Back in the fall", the first single from his new Saskatchewan EP, is built from straightforward strums, tasteful pedal steel and subtle banjo, but the sounds come together nicely to lift Zachary's heavy heart. Thankfully, Lucky never comes off as a sad sack, woe is me coffee shop warrior. He's confident [...]

Calgary Concert House Show Alert! Zachary Lucky and Carly Maicher (two of my current favourite Canadian acts) are going to be here in Calgary tomorrow. The show is at the House of Commons which is literally 3 blocks from where I am typing this. So I don't really have an excuse, right? Zachary Lucky Lucky has just finished mixing his new album "Saskatchewan", so we can hope to expect some new material [...]

Its a little last minute, but in case you're in Toronto tomorrow night (wed) and looking for something to do, why not go see Saskatchewan folk artist Zachary Lucky with Carly Maicher , performing at a loft in Parkdale. Its a small, intimate location to see an artist and requires you to rsvp, so get in touch with quietpeoplecollective@gmail.co m with "Toronto House Concert" in the subject line. Send your info (Name and contact number) and how many tickets you want to reserve. Tickets are $10 or pay what you can. And its BYOB. Expect something along the [...]

Hey Torontonians, I've found the perfect soundtrack to this moment in March, 2011. From a safe space inside looking out, fill those images of slushy, cold rain coming down with the folk of Saskatchewan artist Sean Craib-Petkau, aka The Bravest Ghost. The song below is one of a few demos off his upcoming release "The Nicotine Hymns Demos", recorded with the help of fellow Saskatchewan artist Zachary Lucky . Good stuff, try on "Soul To Sell". The Mountains & The Trees are heading out on tour with buddy Zachary Lucky through Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, PEI, and Nova Scotia this month and next, kicking off with a show tomorrow night at The Casbah in Hamilton. Here's some details straight from the tour's Facebook Event page: "Now why would you tour during such a terrible time of the year?" Well, good question invisible asker. The short answer is, honestly, what [...]
Inspired by the blogs who have taken the time to mention their favorite new bands from 2010, I figured I'd take a shot at remembering the year and which artists came out of nowhere to impress these ears. Now, "Fave New Artists" for this purpose means new to my ears, as I'm sure many of these bands have existed pre-2010, I just hadn't come across them yet. Hopefully, this list will also serve as a "keep your eye on these bands in 20113. - Yellow Ostrich . NY based Alex Schaaf making bedroom lo-fi [...]
ok, so my top 5 un-american albums cover only 3 countries. so what? i can't help the fact that canadians are so damn good at pumping out amazing folk music. could it be the inspiration of countless miles of beautiful, unexplored wilderness, or are these folk-singers simply spending too much time waiting for health care...writing songs all the while? whatever it is, they've managed to grab 3 spots on my list of the 'top 5 non-US albums of 20102. joining them are two incredible talents from sunderland, UK and dublin, ireland. so, without further adieu, here are vocal [...]

This is more or less a list of most played and/or my favourite albums from Canadian artists released in 2010 - I don't say "Best" and I don't pretend to have listened exclusively to Canadian content this past year. So let's not dig too deep into this post, it is simply a list of albums that really work(ed) for me, are better than most and are recorded by someone from the great white north. I am also not going into summary of the albums with each below as I am a niche genre music blogger, and lets be honest about [...]

"Sins Of My Father" by Zachary Lucky (via CLY Creation ). Its been out there for a little while, but glad I stumbled upon this today. Zachary Lucky from CLY CREATION on Vimeo .

Fitting that I waited until I was packing for LA to put up this song by Saskatchewan's Zachary Lucky called 'Town To Town". Trusting a great recommendation from Quick Before It Melts two weeks ago, I've had Zachary's new album Come and Gone on quite a bit lately; his soulful voice tying together 9 beautifully crafted folk/roots song that make up the record. He's currently touring Western Canada this year, central and east coast into next. Definitely recommend you work this soundtrack into your afternoon or nighttime. Grab Come and Gone on [...]
