A few weeks ago I had the privilege to witness two extraordinary bands play the classy and echoing halls of The Palace of Fine Arts. Having seem Jonsi (of Sigur Ros) and The Books dominate this stage already, I was confident that both the mighty Explosions in the Sky and Books guitarist Nick Zammuto's aptly named new project Zammuto would mesh well with this elegant and seated venue. It were a sad one the day the Books called time on said project and sadder yet still when Nick Zammuto conceded to chapters scribed with erudite accomplice Paul de Jong being slammed shut definitively . All good things must come to an end if the hackneyed proverb is to be read into and if one irrevocably great thing may have come from the drawing of proverbial line beneath endeavours Bookish then it's this lustrous debut from its compulsive creative, who here beams in an opus of sorts from some bucolic bit down the back of the [...]

After the members of the New York City-based duo The Books disbanded last summer, co-founder Nick Zammuto had to ponder whether or not he wanted to continue his career as a musician. At the urging of his wife and close friends, he decided it was time to start penning new material for a different project, this time under his own name. Solo songwriting wasn't a new endeavor for Zammuto, but whereas that earlier material had been more ambient and glitchy, the new material would explore fresh territory for the songwriter. Indeed, given an opportunity for a musical rebirth, he wanted [...]
Zammuto - Zammuto Temporary Residence Limited: 2012 By now you know that The Books duo, Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong, have parted ways. Everyone was sad, especially after their strong and final studio album The Way Out, released in 2010. But at least they parted on a good, humorous note. It made me think. Rewind about six years. It was the first time I heard the track "The Lemon of Pink". It was the first time I heard The Books. Somewhere between that short walk from my apartment [...]
Nick Zammuto is just one of the found sound savants (Paul de Jong being the other) behind The Books, the celebrated, now departed band pioneering in its cutting and splicing of folk chops and bizarre vocal recordings from archives no other group would consider plundering. Part of what made The Books so strange and novel was their pairing of apocryphal sonic non-sequiturs not with power tool electronics, as might be expected, but with an accomplished, and on reflection quite beautiful guitar and cello texture. The sense of dislocation was frequently powerful, as on "The Lemon of Pink I," where the [...]

Zammuto, the project based around former Books member Nick Zammuto, will release their new LP today, from which we've already heard " The Shape Of Things To Come " (H.G. Wells reference!) and " Idiom Wind " (Bob Dylan reference!). The former now has an accompanying video, a clip that's basically a way more DIY version of those HBO Rolling Stones concert specials that feature those fancy perspective cameras affixed to Ronnie Wood's guitar neck. Watch the clip below and while you're down there, stream Zammuto in its entirety and check out new tour dates. [...]

Zammuto: Zammuto
Zammuto is a fun and inventive record that shows great promise for Nick Zammuto's post-Books future. When Nick Zammuto and his wife Molly were preparing for the birth of their first child, they ditched their overpriced Brooklyn apartment for a 16 acre plot of high meadow land in rural Vermont. Zammuto, who "had never used a chop saw, but sort of knew he needed one," set out to build their dream home himself in the few remaining months before the due date. He described the whole process in a 2010 article...

Interview: The Shape of Things To Come, Zammuto.
"Like most things I do, while I'm setting them up I have absolutely no idea what I'm getting into. So when I started immortalising this record I would say: 'OK, drums! Let's record some drums now'", Zammuto's voice giving in to a jejune chirrup of laughter. Never one to do things by halves, nor indeed by any fraction yet known to the human mind Nick Zammuto is still learning. Learning how to record the prerequisite elements of most functional "bands"; learning to think outside the box; learning to become the focal point he never even so much as [...]
