There were a lot of good tracks sent to our mailbox in the past few weeks (or months) that somehow didn't make it on Nite Versions on time. Here's a bunch of them! First, we have a new tune from RAC's Andrew Maury who remixed 'Concrete Wall', a single performed by 25 years old Malaysian singer/songwriter Zee Avi. New track from RAC, who can do no wrong when it comes to the remix. Zee Avi is an artist signed to Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records back in 2009. Guess who? Yup, that's right one of our favorites, RAC , have come up with yet another sweet remix. This time the artist is completely new to our website and completely new to my ears. Favorite track of 2012, so far. Yea, we're only a month in, but I find something fresh in this every.damn.time I listen to it. I'd confuse this for the original because of how good it is, but RAC gets so electro weird on it that it goes far beyond any original's experimentation limit. There are not enough Asian musicians in the states. Zee Avi , also known as Koko Kaina, is from Malaysia. She has been making music for several years but I just heard of her recently. KCRW's "Are Friends Eclectic?" holiday benefit, originally planned as a two-night event, will go off as a one-night affair featuring headliners Jimmy Cliff and Iron & Wine (pictured). Tickets for the show Dec. 3 at downtown's Orpheum Theatre start at $60. Frequently, debut albums are interesting but simply do not fulfill their artistic potential. This is the case with Zee Avi 's self-titled 2009 debut.
