This is, at it states, a remix album. If you're looking for soothing folk music, go listen to something else. However, if you like raves, club music, dubstep, hip hop, trance, or any other form of electronic music, check this out. Five world-renowned producers are the main draw: Skrillex, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights, Mark Ronson, and DJ Premier. Each of them have numerous collaborators: members of the Doors, Martha Reeves, The Funk Brothers, Leann Rimes, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste, members of the DAP Kings, Nas, and the Berklee Symphony Orchestra. Those names [...]

Last night one of the main ideas from the Re:Generation Music Project was put on display from the Late Show with David Letterman. Mark Ronson brought Erykah Badu, Zigaboo Modeliste and the Dap-Kings horn players to show off their "A La Modeliste," which absolutely slays. So good. I really need to see that whole movie, [...]

Editor's Note : This is a repost of an item we ran a couple of years ago, reappearing here to help get everyone in that Mardi Gras mood. The links have been updated and the Meters are still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Radio used to be magic. When the stars aligned, and the right artist played the right venue and radio was there, it could be just beautiful. Here's one of those moments: January 1977, at the Showboat Lounge in the Fat City entertainment district of Metairie, which is a suburb [...]
RE:GENERATION | Mark Ronson | Erykah Badu | Mos Def | Trombone Shorty In short RE:GENERATION is a documentary who's concept is to take certain musical artists and pair them up with other artists of other genres who they may not ever get a chance to work with throughout their career. In this episode we combine Mark Ronson + Erykah Badu + Mos Def with Trombone Shorty + Zigaboo Modeliste + Members of The Dap Kings. I look forward to more clips being released on youtube [...]

Today marked the unofficial beginning to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the annual (and free) festival that brings thousands of people to Golden Gate Park each and every fall with tarps in tow and whiskey drinking on the brain. I saw unofficial because really only MC Hammer played today as part of an educational outreach program, so tomorrow is really when the action begins. The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival has become a cultural institution in the city and something that we music fans hardly take for granted (LULZ SEE WHAT I DID THERE) . [...]

January in New Orleans is carnival season, and WNOE radio in the Crescent City marked the occasion with an hour-long live show by the always incredible Meters. The band - featuring Art Neville on keyboards and vocals, Zigaboo Modeliste on drums, George Porter Jr. on bass [...]

Big Bad Earl (No. 34) and the Oilers: Nov. 20, 1978 The best football game I ever attended was in 1978, in the Houston Astrodome. The Oilers were playing the Dolphins, and although Miami had hotshot quarterback Bob Griese Houston had its own secret weapon: a rookie named Earl Campbell. You know the rest - Campbell romped for 199 yards and the game-winning 81-yard touchdown run, and people still call it one of the best Monday Night Football games ever. Campbell created a sort of Oiler fever in Houston, and a number of people [...]

Don't even think of missing the one and only Ponderosa Stomp next week. It's the swingin'-est, funkiest, rockin'-est musical entertainment show ever put on anywhere at anytime. It's only great. And it's blasting into New York City for three crazed nights of soul, rockabilly and swamp pop and most of it will fly out over the WFMU airwaves! For the uninitiated, in the past decade the Stomp has been responsible for celebrating the legacies and careers of the unsung heroes of rock & roll, soul, garage, swamp pop and the unnameable (i.e.: Legendary Stardust [...]

Uh... Headed out to participate in some of the usual the hoopla surrounding our country's annual July 4th birthday bash... In honor of this empirical achievement I thought I'd post some tunes that are uniquely, uh, uh, I guess... Uh-Merican. here's a crowd pleaser you may be familiar with... I hear it went down well with a few hundred thousand folks gathered at Max Yasgur's farm outside Saugerties New York one August morning in 1969 anyway... Not sure it's what Francis Scott Key had in mind originally...but it'll do. [...]
