Here's a little well known secret: I detest the costume portion of Halloween to the point where I haven't had a costume since high school. However, as long as there are Midnight Milky Ways I'm ok with the candy part. I also like pumpkins and scooping out the guts in case you were wondering. The other part I especially like are the mixes that come out of working around a spooky theme. I'm just as excited about this year's mix as the previous two. Stream all three mixes in one playlist on spotify . [...]

Liverpool group Zombina and the Skeletones, have unearthed their lost mini-album from 2003 featuring the earlier lineup from "Taste the Blood...", recorded in the basement of Doc Horror's mum over a weekend. Zombina's album "Halloween Hollerin'" was initially released on October 31, 2003 and if you buy the digital copy at the link below, you will receive two hidden bonus tracks! Traditionally, I like to play a little horror surf around the holiday in honor of an old college surf themed radio show out here on the West Coast of the US. [...]

Even with one foot. So basically, dude gets his foot cut off instead of Rick getting his hand cut off (as in the comic)? Fair trade. So far, season 3 is the best season ever.

I had to change from my comfortable plane clothes into my dress in the car while the driver waited with his hands folded in front of him outside the door. I was two hours delayed and had to meet my boyfriend and another couple for dinner in New York. I’d packed for New Orleans, where I was going to spend a few days alone taking photographs before he met me there but at the last minute, he asked me to come to New York first for a night. A surprise, he said. After dinner at the reincarnation of [...]
It's Friday, which means another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness from around the web. (It also means we're about to melt into a puddle of CMJ angst, but that's another story.) Anyway, on the MP3 front, this week brings a new track and much awesomeness from Angel Haze, a dream remixer/remixee combination in Saint Etienne and El Perro Del Mar, free stuff from prolific producers Dâm-Funk and Zomby, Ty Segall "doing" the Velvet Underground, and the third edition of D'Eon's excellent Music for Keyboards series. And more! Since all this action costs precisely nothing, [...]
We didn’t have enough pull to get our interns their own bunk-bed suite at Barclays Center, so we promised them the next-best New York experience: CMJ, with badges! While we’re holding it down at the ... read more
Lots of zombies coming: The “father of all zombies,” George A. Romero, is working on a comic for Marvel, which will not take place in the Marvel Universe or the Marvel Zombies Universe. The project has no title yet. Fred Van Lente is working on a zombie comic for Dynamite, also untitled. He says it will be funny, which, based on some his writing credits (Great Lakes Avengers, e.g.), seems highly probable. A major character on The Walking Dead will die this season. Not sure that’s news—don’t they kill someone off every [...]
UK producer Zomby has at last assumed the expectations of his name with a track that, though fleeting, provides an appropriate amount of menace and creepiness in its limited length. Music Player: devils.mp3 [...]

The ever-elusive, and always mysterious, Zomby has been typically verbose on his Twitter account of late. If you're patient and really put the time in you, like the diligent folks at FACT , can be privy to some new tracks from Zomby that have been made available for free download. There's no telling how long they'll be available but if you follow the link at the bottom you can get your grubby little mitts on one such track, 'Devils'. Don't get to excited with this one, at only 90 seconds like [...]

No one band – no matter how life-affirming their live show may be – brings to existence the imperative vitality that O 2 may do. And yet, despite sounding like The Turtles washed up on the polychromatic shores of a new psychedelic terrain mapped out in the wake of the '60s, '70s, and such there's a great indispensability to Foxygen's Shuggie. Hugely addictive once first heard, it pertains to the debonair glitz of Low -era Bowie were it backwashed in time to a paisley tune, as these giddy few minutes walk like The Zombies ; [...]
Today is a lovely day, sunny and warm; however, it's a teaser. Tomorrow will be in the 502s and tomorrow night in the 402s. I figure days and nights so cold this time of year are just promos getting us ready for what's to come. In a few months, the 502s will seem a heat wave. I bought a zombie. He is crawling out of the hearth, and when he senses movement, his eyes turn red and he makes horrific noises. The first couple of days after his arrival I jumped when I noticed him out of the [...]

It's been a long ol' wait for they that've been tracing the movements and sonic manoeuvres of Los Angelino hip hop pioneer William Benjamin Bensussen. Preluded by everything from umpteen mixes, to turns with revered glitch hop magician Guillermo Scott Herren, to the production of FlyLo's sophomore full-length Los Angeles (that which opens with a certain track entitled Brainfeeder, the name of Ellison's since established indie to which Bensussen now belongs) The Gaslamp Killer's Breakthrough has been a while coming. And it's a breakthrough both with regard to this début LP and proverbially, as [...]
I performed my own little social experiment tonight. I refilled the prescription pills I was given to control my weird stomach issues. Then I left the bottle on the kitchen counter to see if anyone would try to steal them. No one did. Then, for the first time in maybe ten years, I looked at [...]
