We don’t need to go to Reykjavik to experience the atmosphere of Icelandic music since Alec Snook, aka Zoon van snooK, decided to bring us a piece of Iceland into our homes with his new album. - By Daniela Patrizi

"It seems to me that there are no such things as "concept albums" anymore – just "albums" and "collections of songs to be played in any order." "This is vexatious to the spirit." So says Alex Snook, who's certainly done a lot of travelling in his life. He's currently based in Bristol, but had his start in Barcelona, and headed all the way up to Iceland to record the foundations for what would become The Bridge Between Life and Death , an album named for a bridge in Kópavogur which has a nursing home on one side and a [...]
We find out the electronic producer's Soundcloud faves.
We seem to be referencing the ever diminishing disparity between organic and electronic musics with increasing frequency, so sincerest apologies if you've read, and subsequently had enough of all that. I'm only too aware of the fact that it's been heavily suffused throughout our extensive recent coverage of Brad Weber's Pick a Piper project, and indeed our effusive praise of James Cooley's Mesita but it makes for an exciting time for the sounds of the experimental and avant-garde realms. And although Bristolian composer Zoon van snooK is, by his own admission, a self-professed practitioner [...]

Bristol born, Barcelona-based producer Zoon van snooK has announced the release of his second album 'The Bridge Between Life & Death', which will be released by Lo Recordings, with remixes from isan and Sir Doufus Styles. The Bristolian's recording methods for the album are, how should we put this, a little leftfield; the album was recorded in Iceland and features 11 tracks of fragile electronica, brimming with unique field recordings and collaborations with Icelandic artists Amiina, Benni Hemm Hemm and Sig Fang. We're pleased to premiere the stunningly beautiful first single to be taken from the [...]

At the heart of every indie label, there's a driven individual (or two) who just can't keep their hands off of all of the fun musical equipment (take Germany Germany for example). In this case, Pictish Trail is Fence Record 's very own Johnny Lynch , who (alongside Kenny Anderson) is the self-driven singer-songwriter leading the charge of his own project. Lynch remains steadfast in his efforts to continue the music he's making under Pictish Trail, as well as many others by means of mini-albums, EPs and collaborative [...]

Staying on the remix front a wee bit longer, here's the rather wonderfully named instrumentalist Zoon Van Snook, hailing from - where else? - Bristol. His oddtronics stuff is not my usual cup of tea, but the treatment (and added vocals!) he gets from my fave freakfolkers Tungg really tastes delicious. Find it on Remixes From The Nutty Tree , out now on Mush records. "Dive into into hot spring scalding..." Zoon Van Snook - The Cross I'd Bear (Tunng remix)

Zoon Van Snook is the alias of Bristol, UK’s Weirdsmith Alec Snook. Following keyboard and sampling duty for numerous experimental-indie bands in the south west of England (which included nationwide touring, festivals and support for such acts as: I Am Kloot, Skunk Anansie and BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe), the debut Zoon Van Snook 12” EP was released on the acclaimed Brighton label Cookshop at the end of 2008. This garnered radio support from BBC’s Rob Da Bank + Tom Robinson and lead to his debut hour mix for Ninja Tune’s inimitable Solid Steel. Since then, his [...]

Kid Vinyl was at the launch of Zoon van snooK's album "(Falling from) the Nutty Tree" last night, where we were treated not only to live renditions of the oddtronica supremo's masterpieces, but also a guest appearance from the robot who stars in the video to 'Cuckoo', directed by Kid Vinyl favourite Paul Stevenson . It was a great show, and Zoon van snooK's album, out now on Mush Records (Boom Bip, Daedalus) comes very highly recommended. Bask in the robotic goodness below:
