So by now many of you know that the internets are all abuzz with the latest and greatest musical phenomenon... namely, Trap Music. For those of you who aren't already aware of this, it's high time to get familiar. But what is Trap Music, you ask? In brief, it's a genre that's beginning to rival Dubstep as the preferred method for hip bassheads to get their daily fix of speaker-shaking, bone-rattling subsonic frequencies. In some respects, it's a movement away from the "make the dirtiest, grimiest sound sound possible" approach of mainstream Dubstep, and a return to the [...]

I'm taking a brief break from my hiatus because I've quite simply built up too much great music over the last couple of weeks and I just can't keep it to myself anymore. Today we have new stuff from Justice, Jacques Greene, Flying Lotus, The Odd Future crew and many more, so let's get to it. First up is Justice's most recent video for their single "Newlands" off of last year's Audio, Video, Disco LP. I know the album got a lot of mixed reviews from fans expecting a repeat of their brilliant 2007 debut Cross [...]

When this blog began back in 2010, it was only myself, two good friends and our insatiable love of all music. We came from humble beginnings, and I never once considered the fact that this website might outlast my time in Montreal. Well thanks to your support over the years the blog is still going, but alas, my stay in Montreal finally came to a close this weekend. Obviously this means that there are going to have to be some changes around here since I will no longer be present to cover the great music and cultural scene in MTL. [...]

Hello again everyone. I know it's been a while, but I'm happy to be back with you once again to share a great selection of songs that have been running around my head for the past couple weeks. First up is this captivating video for Nicolas Jaar's "Darkside A-1." On this track, Jaar's deep and atmospheric backdrop blends flawlessly with the heavily saturated guitar riffs of collaborator Dave Harrington to create swelling soundscapes and some relentlessly catchy hooks. This video adds some interesting visual tones to the song and does a good job of capturing the track's many changing [...]

What's up everyone? There are few things I enjoy more than the return of summer in Montreal, and this isn't solely due to the sunshine and glorious weather (although that obviously helps). May also signals the return of some of Montreal's favorite musical events, specifically Piknic Electronik (which starts tomorrow) and the Mutek festival (which takes place at the end of the month). As if that wasn't enough, Simian Mobile Disco will also be stopping by La Mouche next Saturday night as part of their world tour promoting the release of their brand new album [...]

Do you love bass music? Of course you do! So does our boy Harrison from The New Toronto who recently put out a free compilation celebrating the one year anniversary of I Love Bass Muisc. Here's what he had to say about his pet project: “Launched in May 2011, I Love Bass Music operates as a central aggregation site for all things bass music. Dubstep, House, Techno, Juke, Garage, 2-step, Trap, Hip Hop….. if it has a fat low end, chances are it has been posted on the page. [...]

Browsing Soundcloud this morning, I was happy to find that Mosca , one of my favorite DJs/producers out of London, dropped by Annie Mac's radio show to deliver a preview of his new Eva Mendez EP, which features 3 new deep house tracks ("Accidentally", "Murderous" and "Eva Mendez"). Eva Mendez is set for release on Hypercoulour records early this month, so keep your eyes peeled and make sure you don't sleep on this one. Here's the soundcloud preview plus the video for the single. Cheers Mosca - Eva Mendes (Hypercolour) [...]

What's up everyone? It doesn't seem possible, but after finishing my last final exam at McGill yesterday I've finally made the big jump from "broke college kid" to "unemployed 20-something." In honor of that wonderful life transition, here are a few tracks to get you through the last weekend in April. Good luck to anyone out there still writing exams and enjoy the weekend. Cheers Wipe Out- Marble Players High Lite (Sinjin Hawke Remix)- Boylan Iced Up- Baauer [...]

Mixtape Fridays is back from the dead this week because it provides me with a convenient excuse not to write my final paper for McGill University. While this may be procrastination at its finest for me, it does mean that you get a fix of great tunes for your weekend, so let's get to it. Our mixtape this week comes from the 15th annual Awakenings Festival that went down last week in Amsterdam. I'm insanely jealous that I had to miss out this year, because some of the best deep house and techno artists in the [...]

Hello everyone, welcome back. First thing's first: I'd like to wish those of you celebrating this weekend very happy Passover and Easter. I hope you enjoyed the first part of your holiday weekend, now here are a few tunes to keep things moving until we get back to the grind. Neptune (Sinjin Hawke Remix)- Lemonade Automatic (Fuchs & Horn Remix)- Lexy & K-Paul

As I turned in my first term paper today I had the horrifying realization that I only have about a month left in my undergraduate studies. This seems like it must be a joke, but instead of hiding under my bed and pretending I'm still in first year like I want to, I'll just distract myself with some sick new songs and videos. First up is a new video from Sigur Ros called "Ekki Mukk." This track is an early single off of their upcoming album "Valtari," which will be released on May 28th. These guys are always [...]

Ever since they first burst on to the EDM scene, I've been a sucker for the masterfully constructed beats and tripped-out vocals that constitute Pleasurekraft's signature style. For a while, it was hard for me to imagine that remixing their songs could really do the duo any justice, but my mind has been thoroughly changed since the recent release of "The Remixes" on Great Stuff Recordings. This 4 track EP features two of my favorite Pleasurekraft tunes (namely Carny & Anubis) re-imagined by top-notch producers Tom Flynn, Jaceo, Mike Vale & Chase Butch/Nick Olivetti. Go grab the whole release [...]

What's up everyone? Today marks the first day of spring and the weather in Montreal couldn't be any more perfect. The permafrost is breaking up, the slush has dissipated and it's finally time to start enjoying the outdoors once again. So break out your grill, your jean shorts and your favorite pair of shades and go post up in the fresh air. While you're out doing that, here are some tunes to help you enjoy the warm vibes. Cheers [...]

One of the things that I love most about electronic music is that it exists in a constant state of evolution. In the last couple years, we've seen entire genres rise and fall in the matter of only a few months as producers and audiences struggle to find or create the next big sound. In that spirit, myself and a few fellow music addicts have been hard at work trying to create a fresh new fusion of styles designed to delight your eardrums and bring a lot of diverse styles of electronic music together under one roof. The result? Peasunk [...]

Last week, during my final vacation as an undergraduate student, I got the chance to cross a big item off my bucket list and attend the madness that is Mardi Gras in New Orleans. I'll spare you most of the grizzly details, but suffice it to say it's a wild time and I highly recommend it to anyone toying with the idea of heading down next year. However, the highlight of the trip wasn't the binge drinking or nudity (although both of those were also pretty good), but rather New Orleans' famous music scene. It's no secret that the Crescent [...]
For all those interested in a different kind party this weekend, we have found the event for you. The ART CABARET proudly presents "OUR MORNING DUVETS" featuring Botnek , Harmsworth and Andres Velilla. Generally when we post about club events, it is almost always focused on the artists performing the music. The Art Cabaret LOFT PARTY is modelled after the Andy Warhol factory parties. During the night there will be world class DJs spinning tunes whilst a variety of nude models are painted live by [...]

Spring Break has finally come to Montreal, and seeing as how this is my last vacation as an undergraduate (which is horrifying to even think about) I'm doing it right and heading down to New Orleans for Mardis Gras. That being said I'll be away from my computer and the blog for about a week, so today I'm going to leave you with some music you can enjoy this weekend. The last few days have been big, with new releases from Deadmau5, Kavinsky and Mad Decent head honchos Diplo and Dillon Francis, so let's get down to it. [...]
