Contakt is back, which is good news in my book. His latest EP out now on Icee Hot takes in elements of dub and techno on the 2 original tracks. Sweet. The 2 reworks are excellent to boot, with Ghosts on Tape giving it some synth attack with muster, while the assassin, Robert Hood then delivers the killer blow with the big room techno banger to finish the job.

The Dutch legend that is Jaydee produced some of the most iconic sounds of the emerging acid house scene with the pinnacle the being the epic "Plastic Dreams". Well none other than Maceo Plex has decided to revive some of those classic sounds on his own Ellum label. Being a big fan of the tune "Payback", Mr Plex has given it a spring clean. Not only that we also have the original brilliance of "Pulsate" on the EP as well as Steve Rachmad adding the double Dutch flavour with [...]

An early outing in sound design at Prince's Paisley Park studios taught Bryan Black the fundamentals of quality sound and in 2001 he went on to form the Motor duo with Hugo Menendez and churn out chunky electronics that saw them sign to Novamute and support the likes of Depeche Mode. When Black felt the project had strayed a little far from its original techno roots, he started the Black Asteroid project, quickly coming to the attention of esteemed techno producer and DJ Chris Liebing who released the [...]

Glasgow's Vitamins collective have become the prime choice for those seeking a club night that goes a little bit further than most when it comes to the overall production whilst also providing quality music in a wide variety of genres. Such events take a lot of work and planning and the team behind Vitamins spend quite a lot of time working into those magical hours of the early morning where the world seems perfectly still and occasionally madness or genius occurs. They've now launched their "Nocturne Tapes" series, a collection of [...]

We continue our Under The Influence series with legendary producers and next in the hotseat are X-Press 2 . Having been involved in the underground dance music scene since the halcyon days of Shoom and the Spectrum Club, the production pair along with Ashley Beedle set about making music to rival what they were hearing in the clubs. The sounds that were brought back from Ibiza as well as the massive influence of Hip Hop had no doubt shaped their sound and with tracks such as "Muzik Express" becoming massive in both [...]

The rich musical heritage that runs through Glasgow's DNA has been present in almost every part of the musical spectrum and the city has without doubt had a huge effect on the world of electronic music. From world renowned clubs such as the Sub Club and the Arches to producers and DJ's as different as Slam and Scott Brown , Glasgow has helped shaped the worlds of house, techno and beyond. Glasgow Underground have decided to showcase the cities latest exponents in the field and who [...]
London-based Shenoda has been slowly cranking up the dial with quality releases on Hypercolour and an EP for Losing Suki that was a firm favourite round these parts. His latest outing sees him team up with Huxley's increasingly impressive imprint Saints & Sonnets for the three track "I Feel EP". The title track kicks of proceedings and we're in familiar but friendly territory with a nostalgia tinged house groove working its way around an infectious off beat stab hook and floaty vocal [...]

Manchester-based producer Alex Taylor AKA Morris Cowan had impressed us hugely here at the Labs with previous material for the likes of Super and a great debut album in the shape of 20112s "Circa" . His finest work to date however comes in the shape of "Six Degrees", his second album proper and his first full length offering for Wiglex . From the jangly notes of opener "Forum" to the airy beats of "The Grove" via the 8 bit interludes of "At Sixes...", it's a wonderful journey into the producer's mind with [...]
French Dj and producer DJ W!ld recently marked the 10th release on his W imprint with the brilliant "Sweet & Spicy EP" and to further honour the occasion, we asked if he'd put us together a mix showcasing the label's past, present and future output of quality house music. Get your ears around the mix below to get a taster of what the W is all about and hear W!ld's Dj'ing and production talents in full swing. You can pick up releases from the W label at Juno [...]

With an impressive back catalogue of quality production work behind him, it's a real shame that the Dave Clarke doesn't seem to get into the studio as much these days with a hectic DJ schedule to keep him so busy. It'd seem he's about to set that right however as his collaborative project, _Ubsubscribe_ with Mr Jones is starting to take flight with some of their own original material after a stack of great remixes. Neither producer is in need of an introduction and for this, their first [...]

Shonky, Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Soundorom launched their Apollonia imprint in 2012 and the first long player to grace its discography saw the talents of Chris Carrier and Hector Moralez combine on the brilliant "Lotus Seven". Packed end to end with quality nostalgia soaked house, the odd slo-mo interlude and frequent disco injections it's a brilliant piece of work. We've got three signed CD copies up for grabs and to be in with a chance of winning you can leave a comment on the Facebook comments at the [...]

The new Jamie Lidell album was certainly a return to form and the first single “What A Shame” was undoubtedly a monster. As an added bonus, Warp drafted in some highly sought after producers to get on the rework and the pick of the bunch comes from Glasgow’s S-Type . Taking a slightly more restrained path than the original but certainly not lacking in size it’s a top quality remix and you can grab it for free now courtesy of Jamie Lidell’s Soundcloud . [...]

What can be said about Mr C (Richard West) and his impact on the world of electronic music. Maybe best known to most as the rapper and vocal provider for seminal British electronic group The Shamen he has also DJ'd since the late 80s putting on parties that predate the now famous Spectrum and Shoom!. These include the Fantasy and Base nights in the late 80s that championed a tougher sound which of course led him through to founding one of the best clubs the world had seen in The End . When [...]

On of the labels grabbing our attention at the moment is Mister Saturday Night , the NYC based outfit and DJ crew of the same name. Starting as promoters and party starters several years ago Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter decided to enter the record label fold and take their party vibe global. Now firmly established as a go-to label with the likes of Anthony Naples on the roster it was maybe a surprise that the latest release came from Dark Sky . There is no mistaking Dark Sky's ability to make party bangers [...]

There's no doubt that Bicep are at the top of their game right now. The Belfast duo's productions are some of the best around and their ability to start a party has made them a must-see act all over the world. While they have inhabited a space in their productions that sits firmly is the house revival camp their DJ sets travel much deeper and further afield into kick ass techno. They return to AUS (no pun intended!) for four track "Stash EP" that not only hits those sweet house notes but [...]

Swedish label Karlovak has been cutting some fine shapes since its inception in 2012 and despite this only being the imprint's third release, it arrives with some high expectactions following the first two outings. Label bosses Mr. Top Hat and Art Alfie are once again at the controls and the high quality control remains. The 123 contains two classy late night/early morning house numbers that have found favour in esteemed locations such as the Panorama Bar and opener "Kavolrak" draws you in nicely with it's hypnotic piano loop alongside a [...]
Things had been very quiet on the Deadboy front of late. Then, seemingly from nowhere, the brilliant "BLAQUEWORK EP" arrived on Numbers last month and now we have a rather tidy Toddla T rework too. It's a lovely summery slab of garage tinged house goodness and while Shola Ama's vocals work well, it's the dub that's doing it for us around these parts. Available now at Juno .

Denver's Mick Finesse (aka Steve Penders) is a certified friend of the 'Labs and has caught the attention of other discerning listeners thanks to releases on Perc Trax and Broken20 . The 'Forage/Frolic' EP is the first salvo from his new label 22, "home," as he puts it "to various meanderings through structures of abstraction". The five track EP features three tracks plus two remixes from Perc and Soramimi , and while the reworkings certainly deliver, it's the originals that stand out. Opener 'Forage' takes its time to reach a [...]

IDM is still a dirty word to many, and it surely isn't a sobriquet that's going to shift many records, but it's interesting to note how much of the current vital electronic crop could easily fit into that canon - Demdike Stare , Vatican Shadow and the whole Raster Noton axis to name a disparate few. Whatever the terminology (and it's interesting to note that in that term's absence, most of this music lacks any clear, defining genre) there's a vast amount of instrumental electronica around just now that sits beyond gradations of [...]

The Needwant label are masters of the compilation with their Future Disco series always hitting the mark for gathering the best underground tunes as well as breaking new acts. The same can be said for their latest release "Traxx - The House That Garage Built" which aims to celebrate to original NYC garage vibe and its various guises since then. This collection of tunes is jam packed with quality from start to finish with the likes of George Fitzgerald , Disclosure and Huxley all laying down huge tracks. [...]
