Judging by Elena's soulful and depressed lyrics, you'd expect her to be a sad, fragile english girl. However, upon chatting to her, I found her to be delightful! Inter-dimensional psych rockers Pond have released the second track from their upcoming August release  Hobo Rocket,  and if it promises more of what we've heard so far it's going to be one for the ages. The driving riff and thunderous drums show the Perth fellas at their best. Give it a listen.

Here's an artist for the end of the week. Stemming from London UK, this three piece bearded outfit named Bear's Den are gaining massive momentum with their chilled out folky tunes. At this stage they've only dropped an EP named Agape  (Greek for Love), but have already had support slots with Of Men And Monsters, Smoke Fairies, and Matt Corby, and concluded 2012 with a support slot for Mumford & Sons. Giffo catches up for an interview with Chilli Jesson, bassist and vocalist for Palma Violets, the band single-handedly resurrecting UK guitar rock right now, ahead of their debut visit to Australia for Splendour in the Grass. Palma Violets have a fascinating story. The band met around a fire at Reading Festival, with Chilli originally offering to manage Sam (vocalist and gutarist) after hearing him play guitar. God this Brad Oberhofer is good. The king of melodies, and subtly of releases, he is forever producing these gorgeous tunes. He explained that losing a friend to drugs, is a deeply saddening experience which inspired the feelings and themes explored within the new set of songs. Last night my esteemed friend and I, both donning a cute scarf and edgy jacket combo, went and saw Matt Corby’s sold-out performance at the Tivoli in Brisbane. Unsurprisingly, the ratio of girls to guys was probably 6:1, and most of the guys were boyfriends. But more on the fans later. I had briefly researched the opening act, Grace Roosevelt, before the show and thought she was a cute acoustic guitar singer song-writer. But she rocked out! She ended with a great cover of The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" that her YouTube recordings don’t do justice. [...]

Now for me its hard to stray from the pestle and mortar of guitars and drums. It's what I know. However, on my musical voyage through Europe I've started to explore; through friends, artists and scaling the web, an endless pit of discovery. This discovery featuring (and not limited to) a range of musical genres from dance, house (deep), nu disco to indietronica. Stream Portugal. The Man's new album Evil Friends ! Absolutely brilliant. It's catchy, upbeat and has ridiculously cool coverart. It's being streamed on tumblr, so be sure to check out all the crazy gifs and b&w photography. The lyrics are deep and thoughtful, beautifully written, as always, and John Gourley's voice and moustache never fail to please. It was produced by none other than Danger Mouse, and he has spun this album into audiovisual gold. The good times keep on coming from these English lads, from not only their flawless live performances, but their sensational music videos on release of their singles. 'Don't Try' is a great tune, with the clip full of food fights, snippets of fine classic art and frontman Johathan on a white stallion. I'm on a horse. This three piece is a band that's not doing much wrong at present. Blowing the masses away at SXSW last week which saw them handed an award for best on ground, they've stuck to their insatiable formula with this single, 'Guns'. It's laced with deliciovs melodies, driving choruses, and good old handclapping happiness.  Yum Yum.

Tame Impala arrived at the Brisbane Convention Centre halfway through their latest tour around Australia, bringing Midnight Juggernauts with them to an all ages crowd that was clearly looking forward to going berserk. Put simply, no one went home disappointed. Put more simply, anyone who went home disappointed by that performance doesn’t know what the fuck they’re on about.
