I am still there, stuck in an endless loop of shoegazer droning guitars. Amusement Parks On Fire is from Nottingham, England and that is not the only reason to listen to this band. Formed in London 1977, The Television Personalities combined everything from pop to the psychedelic sound. Their third album 'They Could Have Been Bigger Than The Beatles' just about sums up their career. Never really reaching commercial success, the Personalities always seemed to languish in the background. Led by singer/songwriter Dan Treacy the Personalities influenced the C86 and Creation Records generation of artists. Treacy thru the years suffered from drug addiction, mental health problems and was recently released from prison . The inevitable happened to my home desktop computer. No matter how you try to protect computers these days, you are still vunerable to the bad shit that is on the internet. I was running Windows XP, Norton Anti-Virus, Firewall, Spyware removal programs, damn I even downloaded constant security patches to XP. But something got in and killed my whole system. Crash, bang, boom... It's reformat disk time. The bad part is the time it takes to fix it and all the files I lost... So, I needed some soothing after screwing with the computer for two evenings. It is inevitable, my music mind will always circle back to the Shoegaze sound. No matter what music I am currently listening to, there will always have to be a shoegazer album among them. Maybe it's because I am part of another generation, maybe it's because my brain is tuned to swirling droning guitars, maybe it's the million times I have listened to Jesus & Mary Chain or the other million times that I have listened to My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive or, maybe it's none of that. To this music listener Nada Surf's 2005 The Weight Is A Gift was somewhat of a disappointment. Yes, it was good but quite frankly, not great. Unfortunately for Nada Surf they were following up on a tremendous album, in fact (in my opinion) one of the best of 2002 - Let Go. It has got to be extremely difficult to follow up on something that good. Not many bands can repeat such perfection, not any come to mind quickly... Well, the week started out pretty good for the blog mainly based on what the hit counter said. I do appreciate everyone who stopped by and everyone who left a comment. I hope some of you put together a mix tape of Scottish and Irish bands. The work week has sapped my strength again and once more all I can seem to do is hibernate on the weekend, trying to recharge. New job, new state, away from my loved ones, always have some new change to adjust to. Not a very normal life compared to other's around [...]
