image from here Another difficult topic for me to talk about but I need to do it. I need to purge the demons in my life. I hope this post doesn't turn anyone off but I feel it is necessary. I am not an overly religious person but do believe there is a God and that we are all here for a purpose. And I do read the Bible now and then (I know, Merz the Shoegaze Fetish man reading the Bible is a scary thought... :-) Well, anyways what the good book [...]

I don't know what it is about this song but it haunts me in a good way. I don't know if it is the wonderful lyrics or the stark nature of the melody. The song meanders and weaves its way through my brain. It slowly builds then recedes to almost nothing. What gets me the most is the refrain - "All I ever wanted to see - Was just invisible to me" . Its like life I guess - the things you want most are the things you neglect. You just [...]

FOR THE LOVE OF SHOEGAZE Ah, what can I say? It's been over a year and a half since I tuned into some Shoegaze and now I have to have it playing everyday or I am not happy. There is always a healing quality to Shoegaze music, something I really need right now. Thank GOD for Shoegaze!!! Glissade is a perfect name for a Shoegaze band. Glissade means sliding and according to the dictionary it is a gliding step in ballet or a controlled slide, in either a standing or sitting position, used in descending a [...]

This one goes out to my friend pr0lix: Man, I can't believe the stuff I missed in 2008. I did not listen to any new music that whole year. All I can remember about 2008 is spending two months in the hospital....... I've posted before about the band The New Year and it is a band I truly love. I used to live in Texas and that is where these guys are from. The New Year are the same guys (Matt and Bubba Kadane) from the band Bedhead. After the release of [...]

image from here Well, it has been awhile that is for sure. Almost forgot how to run this thing.... Don't want to clutter this space with my personal crap but suffice it to say I am lucky to be alive. Suicide attempts are not pleasant things to talk about. Unfortunately, I am still suffering from severe depression, among other things and struggle to make it through each day. Well, enough about that already. This is supposed to be about the music. And I must admit I am on a [...]
Thinking about it A lot of cobwebs to clear Not sure if I remember how to do it Too many sad stories to tell Does anyone real care? From life to near death back to life Who said suicide was easy? Still in the same rut Nothing has changed Only the time has passed faster and faster Maybe just maybe Will think about it

Here is the first round of eMusic downloads that cover the month of June '07. I have been a member of eMusic now for at least a year and really love it. I get 90 downloads a month and use them up rather quickly. It is by far the best digital music download service out there and is totally DRM free. If you sign up for the service via the link below you will also be helping keep Mars Needs Guitars alive since I get a small kickback from those who subscribe via my [...]

It's pretty crazy." - Neil Young "I stone got crazy when I saw somebody run down them strings with a bottleneck. My eyes lit up like a Christmas tree and I said that I had to learn." - Muddy Waters [...]

I've done that all my life." [...]
Angel And The Love Mongers are from Knoxville, Tennessee but their music has a distinctive Brit pop feel to it. The band is singer/guitarist Angel Zuniga and drummer Eric Nowinski and their latest, The Humanist Queen , will be officially released September 4th on Rock Snob Records (though it appears the album can be picked up on CD Baby right now). Add to the mix some studio help and production by famed artist/producer Mitch Easter and you have a very nice piece of lush music. mp3 [...]

image taken from here Sorry about the lack of posting lately, the Black Dog has been seriously on my ass and I have been under. I woke up the other day and realized it was summer, wtf... My whole life is passing me by and I sometimes wonder why I am even still alive. There is no need though for you to miss out on some summer tunes. Just a word of advice, don't ever ever take the good things you have (a job, a significant other, money, a [...]
It's rare to get this ecstatic over a new band but Austin's Peel have done that for me. Yes, I am a little late at the game since it appears Peel have already garnished a ton of blog love. But they are good enough for another mention here. Their music is a fuzzy, warbling blend of power pop that shines on every track. Take note, take a listen to the goodness of Peel. "A warped power-pop sound combining lots of guitar fuzz and other noise with bright, catchy melodies." - KEXP [...]
The always lovely Rachel from the Untitled blog has moved to a new blog with a new domain name. The new blog is called Untitled Records and is looking awesome to say the least. Rachel is one of my most favorite bloggers and is one of the nicest, friendliest bloggers you will ever meet. She also has excellent taste in music. So, update your bookmarks and visit Rachel at her new site and leave a comment congratulating her on the new digs. mp3 [...]

image from here According to Live Science , Anger Fuels Better Decisions . "Despite its reputation as an impetus to rash behavior, anger actually seems to help people make better choices—even aiding those who are usually very poor at thinking rationally. This could be because angry people base their decisions on the cues that "really matter" rather than things that can be called irrelevant or a distraction." "Previous research has shown that anger biases people's thinking—turning them [...]

Here's a selection of new indie tunes fresh from the Email Inbox, definitely worth checking out! Here is the first single from Spiritual Mansions' - Give Us Your Hearts (Afternoon Records). Spiritual Mansions are from Minneapolis and are a band that favors big rock choruses, a classically trained pianist and writing good pop songs. Give Us Your Hearts will be out June 19th. mp3 The Tumbler Spiritual Mansions - Give Us Your Hearts [...]

image from here Yeah, I love astronomy and the amazing mysteries surrounding the stars, planets and galaxies. A favorite site is the Astronomy Picture Of The Day Archive which shows a daily picture of some fantastic and beautiful features of our universe. It's mind boggling stuff to say the least. An awesome, recent pic is the Great Mountain Moonrise: "On May 31st, a gorgeous Full Moon rose over Uludag Mountain in Bursa Province, Turkey. This alluring telephoto [...]

image from here Yeah, I stole part of the name of the post from the wonderful Tim over at the Contrast Podcast. For some reason I can't get my act together to contribute and Tim has been nice enough to invite me numerous times. I guess I am a little leery about contributing since I will probably pick some depressing song and talk about how it depresses me (my constant state of being for quite awhile now). Anyhow, you should go check out the latest edition of [...]
