Looking back at all the music I added to my collection in 2010, it's obvious that this past year was more about digging up classics than discovering new material for me. But that doesn't mean I wasn't listening or looking. There actually were quite a few releases this year that caught the full attention of my ears and heart, even if I was being a stubborn curmudgeon. I didn't want to do a "Best of" list, since that would seem somewhat pompous of me ( and it's really just a matter of personal preference anyway ). So instead [...]

Apologies there was no update last week. I was too busy wasting my free time with nearly giving myself an aneurysm. How is that, you ask? Well, if you've ever taken a gander at the IMDB message boards, you're probably very familiar with the bigots and idiots than run rampant over there. And I, knowing damn better, made the mistake of venturing over there after seeing some recent films that I thoroughly enjoyed, and wanted to converse with others who felt the same. WHY HELLO, BIG MISTAKE. The first film [...]

Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated with books and movies about serial killers , mass murderers , and true crime . Not in an admiring " I can't wait to grow up and murder someone " kind of way, but more of a morbid obsession with what exactly makes them tick. You could put every fictional monster ever created in front of me, but none could frighten me as much as a person with a psychotic mind. To think that someone just [...]

My fanciful friend Project Matt has a knack for cluing me in on tracks that I almost always love. And during one of our iChat track exchanges yesterday, he sent me a zip of Gay Marvine 's Greatest Mixes Fixes , which is full of amazing disco-reworks of classics from Prince, Sister Sledge, Kate Bush, and more. And since I've been on this whole nostalgia kick lately, it was exactly what my heart and ears desired. I honestly couldn't tell you much about Gay Marvine. From what I've gathered on the interwebs, [...]

Just wanted to give you totally rad ladies and gents in NYC a heads up about the phat 90s party happening from 10PM-4AM tonight, DJed by iRockiRoll and yours truly. You can find out more details about tonight's party on the 2-legit-2-quit Facebook event page -> right here . In the meantime, here's some songs I've been reminiscing with this past week to get you in the mood: Primitive Radio Gods - Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand White Town - [...]

Chateau 's captivating new video for "Melancholy Hill" by Gorillaz makes clever use of all the neon signs and flashing lights we hardly even notice in NYC. Get hypnotized by it below. Gorillaz - On Melancholy Hill On Melancholy Hill - NYC Lights from Chateau Bezerra .

Some time ago, I was called a prude after closing my eyes, plugging my ears, and loudly singing "la la la" as a sex scene played out in a movie. I've been called a lot of things in my life, but that term has rarely (if) ever come up in that list. Curmudgeon? Sure. Asshole? Maybe. But PRUDE ? Come on. You can't be serious. One thing I love about the act of cleaning (besides being an OCD nutjob) is that it gives me a moment of tranquility to really analyze things that I'm normally [...]

After many broken promises and a HUGE bout of procrastination, I have finally slapped a new coat of paint on this baby, rebuilt the transmission, and gassed it up. Now that it's all revved up and ready to go, the final question is: Am I ready to get back on the proverbial road of blogging? Well, the answer is... yes and no. I miss writing. A LOT . And I miss being as passionate about music as I was when I started this blog in 2006. But I don't want to be a music critic, [...]

I've finally gotten around to revamping the site, and now I'm just working out all the kinks on this starship. Real posts to follow. Stay tuned, and LLAP. I'm back, bitches.
New posts and contributors coming soon, y'all. Hold tight for my lazy ass to get everything done. Love, Lady Byrd
I've been MIA getting readjusted to living back in Brooklyn, but I think it's time to resurrect this zombie of a site. Weather is getting warmer, and there are more shows coming around NYC to liven my love of music back up. Please note that our new snail mail address has been updated under the contact/submissions section on the right sidebar, so be sure to start sending in your albums to review there. Also, I'm bringing on another NYC contributor next week, and looking for one or a few more to add on. I tried doing that before, [...]

I've gotten a lot of great submissions that I was planning to review and post by now, but with my moving back to Brooklyn from Florida next week... I just don't have the time. I've been spending time packing and reorganizing my belongings, along with working and spending as much time as possible with friends and family. But I wanted to get something up here to hold y'all over until everything is settled, so here's a couple of playlists in the meantime: This first playlist I'm posting was partially influenced [...]

I know I once again flaked on posting, but I've had a cold for the past couple of weeks that just doesn't know when to leave. Kind of like the creepy, wasted guy at the afterparty who can't seem to catch a hint. I'm feeling quite well today, so I took advantage of the better health and spent pretty much this entire day catching up on email and snail mail submissions. And to make up for my delay, today's post is going to be a massive one. I hate to say that I won't be able to give [...]
Fuck. Really sorry guys. I meant to update, but I've been busy with the holidays. Family and friends are pretty time consuming. Well, now I'm up in NYC for a very short time, and just in case you're interested... I'm doing a guest set tonight at Happy Ending in the Lower East Side. I'll be downstairs, and I go on around 12 or 1AM. I hope to see some of your smiling faces there. Lord knows this homegirl needs a good dancefloor tonight to keep her [...]
I'm in the world of Mickey Mouse with family this week, and I (yet again) head back up to NYC on Christmas Day... so I haven't had time to get a post together for this week. Check back next week if it strikes your fancy pants. In the meantime, trip out on this video: Love, Lady Byrd

I try to post up a holiday mix each year, but since my mixer is broken and I've been a little ill... I asked funny guy Joey Kern to step in and grace us with his cherished holiday classics instead. You might recognize him as the "He's already pulled over" guy from Super Troopers , one of the victims of Cabin Fever , or as the shirtless "Shirts Jokum" in The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang . He's also in the [...]

As I was dusting around the Electro/Indietronic charts early this morning at the site that is my bread and butter ( SoundClick.com )... I was soon floored by a song titled Foreign Skies by a band called MR JIGGA . I had never heard the name before, so of course I immediately pulled up their artist page on the site to find out more. So far I've found out that they are from Australia, apparently love throwing tinted milk around, and they're pretty damn impressive. I don't know what you kids are doing [...]

I am in love with PNAU . Compromised of Nick Littlemore (Empire of the Sun, Teenager) and Peter Mayes, this duo has been putting out records since 1999... but unfortunately I only first heard them at the start of 2008. Being a huge fan of Sleepy Jackson and Luke Steele, I picked up an album by Empire of the Sun some years back, but I had no idea that Littlemore had moved on to make such infectious dance music. Me likey. Baby [...]

So I might have more flakes than Kellogg's, but here's another attempt on a comeback for WNR. I fell pretty hard off the musical wagon after coming to the horrific realization that some spam bots were screwing our site and inboxes in every orifice. I'm now in the process of cleaning up our neglected home and repairing the cracks in the walls to make it all spiffy and easy to maintain again ( read as: I've got to wipe out the old inbox and establish a new address for submissions ). So, if you've sent anything in via email in [...]
