It's sort of disheartening when people write off entire genres of music. They do not seem to realize the vast similarities between most of these genres. With this cover, SITR favorite George Barnett displays just how fluidly a rap track can be translated into an all out rock song. It's kind of amazing; check it out. BONUS! Check out his highly recommended Where The Devil Sleeps EP, which dropped late last year and was inexplicably ignored by us. Sorry. - [...]
I always feel a bit nervous before listening to a artist's first material after the release of a debut album. Often, bands are left at a crossroads after the first release. The brave ones look to transform their whole image, while most look to carefully expand on their initial sound. Luckily, for me at least, Crystal Fighters , the band behind one of my favorite songs ever in 20102s " Plage ," chose the latter route. "Wave" is a futuristic anthem that is catchy as hell, much like most of their debut album Star [...]
The Maneken makes the kind of music that'll fit nicely on your dance party playlists without sounding exactly like every other glossy pop song that'll end up playing the soundtrack to your weekend. The closest comparison that comes to mind is Miike Snow, but a little groovier with more r&b influences. If you're not already convinced, be sure to check this one because he's from Ukraine - and music like this doesn't come out of Ukraine every day. Actually, I have no idea what goes on in Ukraine. I've heard they have bears that like to party [...]
Flume is by far my favorite australian (he just beat out Ian Thorpe ) and his new remix to Yolanda Be Cool 's track, A Baru in New York, just cements his place on the top of my list of lads from down under. This huge remix has one of the most interesting intros I have heard and then when you least expect it the song drops into a huge electronic anthem. I have seen pictures of Flume with the likes of Skrillex popping up on my instagram and it has me incredibly excited for the [...]

I can write a bunch of words here-like, so many words. I know a lot words, but I'm not here to brag about that. My vocabulary is enormous, and you know what they say about people with enormous vocabularies (wait, don't tell me). But even the largest, most descriptive words cannot truly describe the genuine emotion exhibited on this track. It's gorgeous, and that means nothing. So I recommend just ignoring me, hitting play, and letting this song (and his previous EP) better your day in every possible way. The Airplanes [...]
Awolnation has a very unique style, at times they sound like pure rock like the Arctic Monkeys but at other times they song like Nine Inch Nails . On their new track This Kids Not Alright all their style comes out. At points the piece sounds like it is an electro anthem and at others it sounds like a strong four piece rock song. Regardless you won't want to miss this huge heavy hitting track. Recorded for a new video game called Injustice: Gods Amoung Us this track will be one of many on the soundtrack. [...]
I just posted about Max Frost yesterday, and he just dropped another joint today. It's called "Nice and Slow," but it's so obvious that this guy is moving very, very fast. At this pace, he'll take over the industry by the end of the month. This one shows a slower, more reserved side of the artist, yet maintains the funk of "White Lies." - Follow @THEArjunGrover
Soul-sista Meg Mac may only have one song out, but that might be all she needs right now. A Sydney-native, Meg was raised and influenced by Motown tunes, as evident by her lead single, "Known Better". She has a very timeless, throwback vibe about her sound. Honestly, if I didn't know this song came out four months ago, I would've pegged it circa 1960. Check out the thoroughly soulful, piano-driven jam below. Follow @dcbui
Garage Rock is making an amazing come back and Black Manila are riding that wave right into our earholes with their two new singles Shake that Thing and Hoverfly. Normally, I would chose the stronger of the two tracks and post about only one but they are too good to leave one out. In both songs, Black Manila's funky distorted guitar riffs remind me of The Stooges who Black Manila cites as influence. Anyways whether you are looking for a solid road trip song for your spring breaks or looking to have a Rock n Roll [...]
This hot new number is a new track from growing superstar Joey Bada$$ . Day in the Life is a beautiful ode to the road to becoming a New York gangster. With dope production from Harry Fraud it is almost impossible not to bob your head like an OG while listening to Bada$$'s flowing lyrics. This track is set to release today on Peter Rosenberg 's "New York Renaissance" mixtape, so check it out on datpiff . This mixtape has a new Action Bronson number as well called Complements to the Chef . Be sure to [...]
We premiered Satellite Stories single "Sirens" about a year ago, and about an hour ago, the Finns returned with another gem. Now, if you're like me and don't know much about Scandinavian girls-fear not! This song teaches you EVERYTHING about Scandinavian girls. Not only is it an upbeat indie pop jam straddling on rolling guitar rips and the spunk of a rabid raccoon, it's also highly educational. The break around 2:00 is golden. - Follow @THEArjunGrover
We featured Story Books on yesterday's Tape Tuesday , but that could not quite do the British band justice. "Pelegrine" did not even make the cut of their upcoming Too Much A Hunter EP, and even it's kind of amazing. These guys really know how to construct and build a track in a way similar to fellow Londoners Noah And The Whale . I still maintain "Simple Kids" is one of my favorite songs of the year. [...]
I like to think I can sing like Max Frost , but I just can't. I feel like "White Lies" is a song we all think we can make, but don't have the ability, skill, or ability to pull it off. Max does it beautifully, rightfully, gaining comparisons to Gnarls Barkley on the way. - Follow @THEArjunGrover
I had the privilege of hanging out with OnCue recently. It was actually a meeting that will probably go down as one of the rarest IRL moments of our generation. Bauce Sauce of MJF was there. "Hip-hop" producer/mogul Brenton Duvall was there. My friends Adam and Jacob were there. We were in the Holiday Inn or maybe the Holiday Inn was in us. Pause. Sorry. "Live Forever" is not on Angry Young Man , OnCue's upcoming project, but maybe it [...]
Oberhofer released one of my favorite albums of 2012 , and they are back with new material. "Earplugs" is the first single from their upcoming NOTALGIA project, which will feature 5 new songs. This is convenient for me, since I just spent the other day revisiting their debut album, mesmerized once again by their rock sensibility and the magnetic vocal performances of lead singer Brad Oberhofer. This is freakin' great. - Follow @THEArjunGrover
