Blog: Music Reviews for Idiots by Idiots

Last.fm Top Played Artists of the Week Ending 8/25/2010

Oops, I forgot to do this on Wednesday again and then again and then again. Things came up, I went places, places saw me, and what it really comes down to is that I just kept forgetting. This week I finally stopped listening to the Arcade Fire album and have been lisetening to that new k-os mixtape quite a bit. Aaron has been listening to a lot of Arcade Fire while he has been playing the new Final Fantasy game (yeah, he's that cool), he claims it fits so well. Tell us on our Facebook "Like" Page who you are [...]

Congratulations
This odd, slow and boring music video is for "Congratulations" off of MGMT's newest album, Congratulations. Read the review for Congratulations here. I think it's safe to say that I'm not cool enough for MGMT. However, I did have a good laugh when the E.T., dinosaur, vulture thingy fell and rolled down the sand hill. The only 5 seconds of the video I actually enjoyed.

Music Video Monday: Disturbed- "Another Way to Die"

Disturbed - "Another Way To Die" Official Music Video
Here's a new video from Disturbed for a song called "Another Way to Die." The song appears on their new album, Asylum. It's pretty political charged, but a very mediocre metal song overall.

Music Video Monday: 3OH!3-House Party

3OH!3 - House Party (Official Music Video)
3OH!3 sure know how to party. It's too bad they're not very good at making music. Anyways, this song is called "House Party," and it's off their new album Streets of Gold. Look forward to an aggressive review of Streets of Gold in the next week or so. Those with epilepsy, proceed with caution. Disclaimer: Music Reviews for Idiots in no way encourages the watching or listening of this video and song.

Music Video Monday: Julian Casablancas- "11th Dimension"

Julian Casablancas - 11th Dimension
Remember the guest review of Julian Casablancas' debut solo album, Phrazes of the Young? Good. This is the old, but still awesome, music video for the first single, "11th Dimension."

Album Review: Arcade Fire-The Suburbs(2010)

The hype that has been surrounding Arcade Fire's third studio album, The Suburbs, has been extremely high. It's really no surprise, with the hand written notes to the fans, the release of two tracks months before the release, the leak of the album two weeks early, and the marketing ploy of having eight different album covers. Throw in the huge success of their last album, Neon Bible, and the album wouldn't even have to be that great to have commercial success. The Burbs, as I like to call it, opens up with the album titled song, "The Suburbs," and right [...]

Music Video: Arcade Fire- "Ready To Start"

Ready to Start official Elmundo.es exclusive.avi
Alright, well I'm not actually sure if this is the official video or not, but it claims to be on Youtube and when has Youtube ever lied?! I'm only posting this because, I hope it's real, I love this song and it's a pretty good video even though I don't really understand the "artistic direction" with the black and white. So, enjoy "Ready To Start" off of Arcade Fire's new album, The Suburbs. EDIT: Now that I start to use some common sense, there is no way this is the official video. But please enjoy it it either way!

Guest Album Review: Best Coast-Crazy For You

Bringing two X Chromosomes to Music Reviews for Idiots for the first time ever is DJ Bunnie. She DJ's for KJSR.net, an online radio show, on Sundays at 11pm. She is from the South and loves music. Best Coast's album, Crazy for You, has a distinct, pop/surf sound that makes you want to lay on a beach with over-sized sunglasses. It's smooth but upbeat sound throughout is all kinds of enjoyable. Let's move through the song list, shall we? Starting with "Boyfriend," we get a glimpse into pretty much every girl's psyche. The boy you desperately want doesn't see you [...]

Music Video: of Montreal- "Coquet Coquette"

of Montreal - Coquet Coquette [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
of Montreal's new album, False Priest, is being released September 14th. To promote that release they have released the video for the first single, "Coquet Coquette." Unfortunately for the album release, the album has been pre-released by the forces of the internet. Release.

Music News: Stream Ra Ra Riot's New Album The Orchard, on NPR Now

The Orchard isn't set to be released until August 24th but, like many other artists, Ra Ra Riot is teaming up with NPR Music to stream their album online, for free, prior to the official release. All of these album streams really want to make me donate to NPR, if only I had a job. If you enjoy indie, indie rock, violins, or soothing jams, give it the old listen through here. I did and really enjoyed a band I have never really listened to before. Track List: 1. the orchard 2. boy 3. too dramatic 4. foolish 5. massachusetts [...]

Music Video Monday: M.I.A.- "XXXO"

M.I.A. - XXXO
Damn! M.I.A. is looking fine in this one. This is her new video for the song "XXXO" from Maya, her new album. The video keeps the world flavor that M.I.A. usually has in her videos, and it's visually pleasing as usual. It isn't really my favorite song off Maya, but the video is very stimulating. Read our glowing review here. "Those are skin tight. How do you get into those pants, baby?"

Music Video Monday: Arcade Fire-Live at Madison Square Garden

Arcade Fire - Wake Up (Unstaged)
We had posted about the live performance Arcade Fire was doing with help from Youtube, VEVO, and American Express. I hope some of you watched it, but if I had to guess, 99% of you didn't. That's okay! You can still watch most, if not all, of the songs they played that night on Youtube. Below are four of the songs with the first three being from the new album, The Suburbs, and the last song being from their first album, The Funeral. The second two videos after the jump. And be sure to pick up their new album, The [...]

Music Video Monday: "Eminem – Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna"

Eminem - Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna
Here is the video for "Love The Way You Lie ft. Rihanna" from Eminem's new album Recovery. Check out the guest review HERE! Alright, there is just so much to say about this video, so here it is in a confusing, incoherent way. Or just watch the video: Charlie(Dominic Monaghan) from LOST plays a great angry drunk/heroin addict. Can we please just be done with Meghan Fox? This video is almost disturbing. People in these types of relationships should not be allowed to reproduce together. Eminem, what's up with the wife-beater in the field? I wonder how much Stolichnaya paid [...]

Music News: k-os Releases The Anchorman Mixtape

I can hear you through the series of internet tubes saying, "What's a k-os and what does it have to do with that awesome Will Ferrell comedy, Anchorman?" Well k-os is an awesome "underground" hip-hop artist and until now I don't think they ever had any sort of connection. But now, k-os has released a mixtape titled, The Anchorman Mixtape. Other than the title and memorable movie quote intros I really don't understand it but, you know what? I couldn't care less because these songs are awesome. Don't be a whore from whore island and download the tape from, HERE. [...]

Music News: New Weezer Album this Fall

The album is set to be released September 14th and will be named Hurley. You know, like the fat latino guy from LOST. No really, that is the cover to the album. Hugo "Hurley" Reyes or Jorge Garcia in real life, has become the face of Weezer's newest album. Unless it's all just a marketing joke. It almost seems like Weezer has been jumping on cultural bandwagons, with this and the U.S. Soccer Team Song. I'm not sure I entirely get it, but I don't really care too much. As long as the music is enjoyable. Tracklist: Memories Ruling Me [...]

Music Video Monday: Kanye West- "POWER"

Kanye West - POWER
Kanye West's new single is another sample infested anthem about how cool Kanye thinks Kanye is. "POWER" is the first single off Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye's upcoming album. The video is a work of art, but the song seems to be over before you know it. Although, that may be a good thing. Kanye West on the "Eight Musicians NOT to Follow on Twitter"

Music Video Monday: Miniature Tigers- "Cannibal Queen"

Miniature Tigers - Cannibal Queen
My colleague, Aaron, and I had the pleasure of seeing Miniature Tigers live this weekend. They opened for Minus the Bear and were quite awesome. Check out this video of theirs from their two year old album, Tell it to the Volcano. Check out Miniature Tiger's albums on Amazon.com
