Forgoing the drone stylings of his first Elvis Depressedly release, Coma Cinema mastermind Mat Cothran returns with a second EP a bit closer to his original sound. Not unlike his most recent Coma EP, Abandoned Lands , Goner takes Mat's general singer song writer form and spins it on its head. The sample pop prodigies TV Girl are branching out into the physical world with the first single! Small Plates will release the 7", which features the band's first sample free tracks. The transition didn't seem to affect the duo too much though, because the tracks still have sepia toned, "way too cool" feel to them that used to be called retro. Orca Orca is the solo project of Boston native and pop-punk dreamer Jim Hewitt. His debut single (which you can download below for free!) straddles that fine line between breezy and lazy with surprising ease. The project is self classified as dream pop, and the texture is definitely there. I'm not so sure dream pop captures the whole picture though, as these songs stay snappy; bobbing and jumping where their peers just sway. These days, just having a release on Tri-Angle is cause for buzz, and obviously most of the artists actually deserve it. Their newest release, a single from New York (via Kuwait) artist Ayshay somehow hasn't received the buzz of its peers. Maybe I dropped the ball on this one, but even though these songs have been out since July I'm just now hearing them. I've been absolutely floored by Slumberland's output this year. They are definitely in the middle of a renaissance. Just a quick peek at their soundcloud and youtube page if you don't know what I'm talking about. Porcelain Raft's take on Nirvana's "Come As You Are" definitely feels more like a Porcelain Raft song than it does a Nirvana cover, but I'm not saying that's a bad thing. Where Mauro's sound may not be sonically influenced by Nirvana, he's definitely got the right attitude. The version is fragile, slightly disjointed and more then a little dark. New James Blake played on BBC1 last night! Its the second track we've heard of from Mr Blake's soon to be released EP, "Enough Thunder" and the last two minutes will kill you (in a good way.) Check out the first track, the much buzzed collaboration with Bon Iver's Justin Vernon.

Like any good remix, Low Sea keep the spirit of the original "Frequency" but alter the tone. It falls somewhere in between the lazy carelessness of the original and Uno's own sleek, but unnerving rework. With every release it becomes more and more apparent that Dead Gaze is not just "lo-fi." Cole Furlow is making pop music here, he's just using the a different set of tools. The signature "under water vocals", garish synths and syrupy guitar swirl together with pounds of angst, yet the end result still manages to sound shockingly beautiful. The first week of school is always stressful, especially when you don't have a computer. Turns out blogging from library computers just doesn't feel right, especially when you don't exactly have the free time to allow it. Anyways, I finally have a working computer (along with a working charger!) and no more grounds for complaint. I've said a million times before, but tape label Crash Symbols have impeccable taste. Right after the huge announcement of their first vinyl pressing , they casually dropped a digital single of pure chillwave transcendence. All the post Tough Alliance influences are there, and no one's really disputing that. However, Rivka aren't of trying to distinguish themselves in influence. Instead, they fly ahead of the pack with their scope. Its easy to spend too much time analyzing a song for influences and its definitely tempting, [...]
