Other Lives - Tamer Animals Other Lives latest album Tamer Animals is lush and haunting and epic. The four guys and one lady from Stillwater, Oklahoma have created an album, where layer after layer of sound beautifully transports you elsewhere. Whether a dense forest or a far away space scape (as seen in their music video for For 12 ) this entire album is simply otherworldly. There are numerous layers that weave in and out of each song. Trumpets and horns on Dark Horse add an [...]
Blitzen Trapper - American Goldwing Blitzen Trapper has always remained to be one of my favorite bands around so their announcement of forthcoming album American Goldwing definitely does not go unnoticed. Today they released the title track, a dusty, country tinged jam, that reminds me of earlier works (specifically Wild Mountain Nation). Earley's writing and voice have always been very strong, and on this one it rings true once again. Its a traveler, rolling midtempo number that is sure to please fans. In the meantime, here again are the confirmed [...]

Ganglians - Sleep Ganglians - Jungle Off their upcoming album Still Living , Ganglians release their second song "Sleep." Sleep is a psychedelic foray that sounds to me a bit of Suckers and a bit Dirty Projectors (the album is produced by Robbie Moncrieff who produced Bitte Orca) its a different kind of beautiful track that is hazy and ambient like any other psychedelic track, but has some pounding drums and a very melodic keyboard riff. Its a long track at 5:35 but well worth numerous listens all the way through. [...]
Check out Justin Townes Earle's fantastic cover of Buddy Holly's off of the Rave on Buddy Holly tribute album available here . Always one of my favorite Holly songs to begin with, loving Justin's take on this.

This is a collection of songs that I loved from June of 2011, with some help from selections from Courtney. I have conveniently put them together in a nice little package so you can enjoy them too. Tracklist: Saskatchewan - Dreamboat River City Extension - Letter to Lainie ft. Glenn Tilbrook The Californian - A Billion Grains of Sand Pepper Rabbit - Rose Mary Stretch Fruit Bats - Tangie & Ray German Error Message - In Comforting Clap Your Hands Say Yeah [...]

SASKATCHEWAN - Dreamboat We'll I've just found my new summer jam. Orlando natives Saskatchewan released, via their bandcamp , an incredibly catchy upbeat summer tune called Dreamboat. No word yet on whether we'll see a full length album out anytime soon, or if the guys will head out beyond Florida for some shows. But for now, enjoy this retro tune. It's gonna be difficult to NOT have it on repeat.

The Elected - Go For The Throat On the first or second listen of The Elected's third album Bury Me In My Rings , you don't really think about where this music fits in best. But live, it's clear that all of the songs off their new record are tailor made for a west-coast beach party. Preferably around a bonfire. At sunset. And so in the dark Brighton Music Hall, on a Tuesday night the setting wasn't exactly perfect but the sound was. There were ukeleles, bongo drums and lap steel. Playing mostly [...]

The Elected - Go For The Throat You'd recognize his face from Boy Meets World and Salute Your Shorts, but you'd also recognize Blake Sennett's voice and song writing as one half of the loved-by-everyone Rilo Kiley. Sennett's new(er) project is The Elected, and they're playing at Brighton Music Hall tonight. The Elected's third studio album, Bury Me In My Rings is full of super catchy tunes you'd only expect from the second half of Rilo Kiley and Sennett should be especially great live as every song is one that is great from the [...]

Small Town Talk by Kevin Long I've got a favorite new hobby. It's hanging out on Bandcamp and searching for new music under tags such as 'Folk' and 'Seattle'. And in doing so I stumbled across Kevin Long's page for his new LP Small Town Talk . I was immediately blown away by the first track Home Town Remedy . Long's voice is so crisp and clear, that it was instantly likeable. And as I read on about the album, I recognized another name, Seattle's own master mixer/sound engineer Kory Kruckenberg, who [...]

Mean Creek - The Land Of Hopes & Dreams Boston-based rock quartet Mean Creekis releasing a new single titled "The Land of Hopes & Dreams." The track was recorded here in Boston at 1867 Recording Studio. The sound is reminding me a lot Arcade Fire's Funeral, the vocals are quite similar and the raw emotion and power of the sound is really reminiscent. It's a great pounding track that is sure to dazzle fans. The single was released on Mean Creek's Bandcamp page and you can download it for free. [...]

Chris Bathgate - In The City (from Daytrotter) Looking for something new? Something really, really, really just goddamn good? Go download Chris Bathgate's latest full-length album, Salt Year . The Ann Arbor Michigan artist has more than a few albums under his name, and has really perfected a multi-layered folk sound accented by his voice. There's the standard guitar and drums, but there's also piano, strings, banjo and horns (see Furs Curled on the Sad Road ) that all meld in perfectly with Bathgate's lyrics to create just a really great overall sound. [...]

The Californian - A Billion Grains of Sand A modern day surf act is what these guys are after, and listening to their first cut off of their debut album the spirit of Dick Dale is all over the guitars on A Billion Grains of Sand . The formative years saw the Californian with a litany of line-up changes with members of Phantom Planet, Warpaint, The Bird and the Bee, and The Henry Clay People, coming and going. However, with four years under their belts, the Californian's lineup has solidified with guitarists Jonathan Price [...]
City and Colour - Fragile Bird City and Colour is the recording moniker of Dallas Green (a city and a color), who is also the guitarist and vocalist for the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. But over the past few years, Green has made a name for himself in his strong song-writing skills and quiet acoustic folk songs . City and Colour's third studio album, Little Hell , was released on June 7, and will both please City and Colour's old fans and garner new ones. While City and Colour is known for melodic folk, [...]

Calgary - Bon Iver For the many fans of Bon Iver, who fell in love with For Emma, Forever Ago way back in 2008, today is like Christmas morning. And considering For Emma, Forever Ago not only topped the best of 2008 lists, but made it onto the best of the last decade lists as well, this is one of the most anticipated albums of 2011. People will love it. And hate it. And compare it song-for-song to For Emma, Forever Ago . Every single [...]

Rave On Buddy Holly by concordmusicgroup I'd say we've been talking about this tribute to Buddy Holly for a few months now, Concord Music has a stream of the album up on their soundcloud; and finally getting to hear it in full, you get a full idea of how fantastic it is. I love Buddy Holly, and I was super excited about it... and well I just love this tribute especially that it's backed with some of my favorite artists...this one will surely help round out your collection. The [...]
Fruit Bats - Tangie And Ray Ten years into a musical career spanning 4 albums, Eric D. Johnson the man behind Fruit Bats, will release his 5th album Tripper . The album, named after a chance encounter on a train with a cantankerous vagabond, is a fictional work about Johnson and the "Tripper's" roadtrip across America. The first released cut from the album is Tangie and Ray , a travelogue about two people riding in the back of a truck and their travels leaving home and going back to the wild. Its Johnson's style [...]
River City Extension - Letter to Lainie (Ft. Glenn Tilbrook) River City Extension's The Unmistakable Man quickly racked up tons of plays in my library for good reason. Its a packed album full of energetic, bouncy, huge songs that are extremely fun to listen to and from everything I've heard an absolute must to see live. The band recorded this special cut of 'Letter to Lainie' featuring Glenn Tilbrook of UK new wave band Squeeze . The bouncy singalong track with soaring chorus' is near identical to the original, but the lending hand on vocals [...]
The Sundelles - Gold Sundelles - Me & You Check out newly released single ' Gold , a lazy sunny day song. With a Phil Spector reference in their name & a nod to west coast vibes, The Sundelles wrote and recorded the songs on their debut album, Georgia Swan, in early 2010. Releasing the album back in March, you might have missed one of the best summer time records. This album, is full of polished, poppy & sunny tracks from beginning to end. For one of the [...]
The Rosebuds - Woods from Merge Records on Vimeo . Check out the video for new Rosebuds track ‘Woods’ a song from their recently released album, Loud Planes Fly Low, that was out June 7th on Merge Records. Its reminding me a lot of some Twilight Singers stuff, not quite as dark but the pulsing piano rhythms and explosive chorus’ leave me thirsty for more of their new album. The video is a collection of stark black and white recordings of surfing and a creepy vhs style (tracking fix please) handy cam [...]
