This Time Around, We're Shooting For the Sky

This Time Around, We're Shooting For the Sky Sorry for the lack of updates. It's Spring and I've got a touch of Spring fever -- around this time of the year, my mind has a tendency to wander... the warm weather outside, places to vacation with the boyfriend, and all the music festivals already in motion... 8 Yet sadly, there's a sheer lack of great shows in NYC this week so I don't feel like I'm missing anything too important. Animal Collective is playing the Bowery but I've seen them so many [...]

Jens Lekman + Erlend Oye

Jens Lekman + Erlend Oye I've posted ad nauseum about the infinite greatness of collaborators and friends Jens Lekman and Erlend Oye so I'll spare you the soapbox... this time. Instead, here are a couple photos. They have a tendency to pleasantly pop up at each other's shows when they're not playing impromptu shows together (below: Erlend and Jens play a surprise show together in Gothenberg.) Erlend Oye - "The Black Keys Work" (original edit) [...]

Oh Happy Day

Oh Happy Day This is what 3:00 am looks like in New York City after partying with a bunch of stark raving hungry boys. This is what you're left staring at in the early hours of the morning -- two for one falafels. I'm sure more than a handful of you can relate. The day after is always interesting, innit. Thank God I have the day off today. I'm in a frighteningly good mood and might very well take advantage of the lovely weather. It's Spring here in the city and it feels like magic. [...]

You Asked Me...

You Asked Me... Every so often, there's a song that offers up a really beautiful melancholic melody that sounds a little haunting, slightly familiar, and every bit seductive. A deadly combination, if there ever was one. London's Arkestra One (Matthew Timoney and Nina Miranda) cobbles together elements of Air, Aphex Twin, Thievery Corporation, Coldcut, Irresistible Force, and other artists we know and love. Except perhaps there's a bit more retro lounge, '50s/'60s jazz, Brazil '66, Library, Exotica, and funk to his compositions as you'll hear with this perfectly vibed-out track. A nice backdrop to last night, as it were. [...]

Little Thrills

Little Thrills Le Sport - "It's Not The End Of The World (Mr. Suitcase Sky High T-Mix)" Le Sport is a duo from Stockholm, Sweden, with their debut LP streeting next month on Songs I Wish I Had Written. The original version of this track is their first single off of the album. In case you're interested in the original (though I have to add that I'm a bigger fan of the remix), here it is: Le Sport - "It's Not The End Of The [...]

Everything In Its Right Place

Everything In Its Right Place I sort of forgot to blog yesterday. Oops. Truth be told, I was in a state of "pissed off" the first half of the day. Laser beams were practically shooting out of my eyeballs. My music choice would have been a fear post at best, death metal at worst. But thanks to plenty of advice and useful information from lots o' good friends and colleagues ( and a really ace strawberry milkshake, yum !), I was all better by the afternoon. And you were spared a shitty post. [...]
