Here's a nifty back-and-forth I had with Sydney-based beatstrumentalists Polographia. The duo have recently supported Rüfüs on tour, and have an excellent EP available for free via their Bandcamp. Albatross have been riding a soulful future funky wave to the front of people's minds for a couple of years now. To paint a picture of how things have progressed from the studio to the live show, they recently supported Mount Kimbie in Sydney. You definitely need to have these guys on your radar. I'm hoping that you'll be hearing a lot more from London Based Joleon Davenue. His "The New Mantra" EP moves deftly through a range flavours including hip hop, future bass and reggae, and is a generous 7 tracks in length. Davenue's vocal style is like gravel mixed with honey. It kind of knocks you on the chin and makes you sit up straight. So many good things going on in this track. Fantastic pop melody and lyrical whimsy, plus the production is that perfect middle ground between indie dance and nu disco, with a touch of the 80s. Poolside have done well with their ultra smooth tropi-cosmic remix of "In The Grace of Your Love" by The Rapture. The track moves and grooves with that earnest nu disco chug. It has a subtle swell to it, pushing Luke Jenner's vocals up to the ceiling, hands-in-the-air style. What So Not have done a sensational overhaul of "Awake Now" by Parachute Youth. A super chilled, hip hop beat, trimmed with atmospheric bells and whistles and lashings of warped vox. Flume remixes "Wont Get Lost" by The Aston Shuffle. The track now has a warm sunrise feel to it - like the soundtrack to your morning stretch and yawn before you begin the day. Flume seems to have split the difference between the Shuffle's indie club sound and his own down tempo, choppy style. As you can well imagine there's been an influx of Prince edits/remixes/bootlegs since the artist-currently-known-as went on a jaunt down under. Peking Duk have applied their electro savvy to the uplifting newbie by hook-meisters Passion Pit. "Take A Walk" now glares bright like the searing flame of a jet engine. That glorious synth lead is left intact, until the drop where it has been recreated to up the shred factor. The general structure of the vocal verses is followed closely, and considering the Duk's usual bomb tempo, this one is at a bit more of a stoner headbanger pace which is a cool change up. Also peep their sensational remix of Dem Slackers "Schlingel" - seriously an end-of-the-Earth tune. [...]

Giraffage AKA Charlie Yin is from San Francisco. According to his facebook bio he is "just a dude making music". Thank god. "Mountains Come Out Of The Sky" is a swirly and cumbersome fanfare, and part of Slugabed's "Time Team" LP. Can you let me geek-out for a sec? New tracks from Gold Panda. "Financial District" and "Mountain" both possess an eerie quality. Both melodies consist of single notes played long and in an irregular sequence, dotted by a bouncing pattern of strokes that adds texture but gets choked out by the rest of the percussion. An ominous ambience has been created, each note runs into the next forming a sustained pattern that feels almost like an unbroken wave of sound, which makes for an intense listening experience. I know I carry on about Disclosure, but they just have such a knack for nailing a UK garage and bass sound that is super pop sensible without losing that distinct quality that appeals to the underground.
