I don't know that much about Keljet, other then the fact that they're from the Netherlands and they spin/produce high energy french house/indie disco. But then again what else can you ask for? This mix is basically a round house kick to the face with (male) platform shoes. Massive Selection 19 sweats a positive vibe that's caused by upbeat tracks from Grum, Madeon and of course some Keljet originals. Keep an ear out for their space age remix of " Rolling In the Deep " and the 2011 version of Long Legs Runnin redone by Boris Roodbwoy and Ezzy [...]
Well, this is just awesome. New remix of Metronomy's ( @metronomy ) 'The Bay' from Erol Alkan ( @erolalkan ). I want to say its like Saturday Night Fever meets 2011 indie pop. Check it out! Metronomy - The Bay (Erol Alkan Remix)
Well, we have another BIG #MusicMonday on our hands with a full preview of the upcoming Friendly Fires album "Pala". Thanks again Hype Machine!
Staying in on a Friday night results in a lot more free time on Saturday morning eh? Instead of slamming regular doses of water and Tylenol, I was able to find a couple gems for the rest of your weekend. First up we have an electro inspired mix from Egotomb which he produced for the online fashion magazine, GIA . Take a look at the tracklisting, it basically sums up everything I dig about the current music scene. Egotomb - GIA Magazine: FAKE Issue Podcast [...]
What a perfect remix for a Friday afternoon. Gigamesh's spin on "Pumped Up Kicks" has this soft, dance-inducing feel that energizes the original in ways I didn't think was possible. It can't help but remind me of Fred Falke's remix of " Golden Cage ". Love it when a french sounding producer gets their hands on a indie pop anthem. Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks (Gigamesh Remix)
RAC are at fault for many of my favorite funky remixes from original artists like Ra Ra Riot, Hockey, Chromeo, Edward Sharpe, Pheonix and Tokyo Police Club. Lucky for us, they've been featured on this week's Modular "Modcast" and left behind a day drinking, "summer party jams" inspired mixtape. If you aren't familiar with Modular records, they're just responsible for bands like Bag Raiders, Chromeo, Cut Copy, Ladyhawke, Robyn, Tame Impala and Van She (no big deal). Check out the mix below, along with a couple new remixes they've released last month: Remix Artist Collective - ModCast #73 [...]
I'll let ChannelOne take it away: " One of the things that we really notice that’s different between the current crop of young DJ’s from when we were starting out, (many, many late nights ago) is that the new generation isn’t waiting around for anybody to bring them in like we had to go thru. They have their own music, their own parties and have created their own scenes. We love that. [...]
I apologize for the couple days silence. I'm hoping this top shelf remix of Chromeo's "Hot Mess" will help you forgive me. I've hesitated posting a remix of this track because of the sheer volume of them out there, but this one is done so properly couldn't help myself. It's starting to look like the disco-house family have a couple new members in RtU. Chromeo - Hot Mess (Ride the Universe Remix)
I'm pretty excited about this week's installment of Weekend Playlist. If you're an unbiased electronic music lover, I'm pretty confident you'll fall in love with at least ALL of these tracks. So in celebration (and appreciation) of our 10,000 hit, here's an action packed, 6 track post: To be completely honest, I haven't been totally in love with anything Areoplane has released since the departure of Stephen Fasano (now known as The Magician ). But Vito De Luca has proven that he can create magic of his own by remixing this incredible original by Black Van and [...]
I apologize for my nu-disco mind set this week. I don't know if it's been the shitty weather here in Toronto, but I've needed something with a catchy beat to keep my eyes towards the end of the week. Today, Penguin Prison re-released a great mix featuring all types of disco tracks from the past and present. I love this type of house because it allows for the opportunity to mix in throw backs, which you can't really say for most other electronic genres. Penguin Prison - March Mix Tracklisting: [...]
Another exclusive remix from my favorite Canadian DJ, Smooth McGee aka Steven Gaskin aka MY BROTHER! If you thought I knew music, he's the one that taught me everything I know. This time around, he's slowed it down for his 'Baby Making Music' mix. Hide ya kids, hide ya wife cuz this mix is pure seduction! I'd like to think I had a part in introducing him to Skratch Bastid's amaxing Sexy Sax remix of UGK. If you haven't already, also listen to his 'i.r.o.c' mix , a guaranteed party playlist. 'Baby Making Music' by [...]
Today was a pretty gloomy day here in Toronto. Luckily I stumbled over some high quality nu-disco to help me stay on the positive side of things. The Magician might be my favorite producer to date in 2011. His chilled out feel will most likely set the tone for my up and coming summer afternoons. He featured this remix of Yuksek's "On a Train" on his latest Magic Tape installement and it blew me away. This is a MUST HEAR . Yuksek - On a Train (The Magician Remix) [...]
A frequenter on Triple J's Mix Up radio show, TYSON ( @tysonofficial ) is a British singer who's bringin' back the 80s disco-pop sound with style. Think Cee-Lo meets Robyn. Get that neon Lycra ready. Out of My Mind Die on the Dancefloor (Extended Mix)
This is huge! Pitchfork is now streaming (until April 27th) a free copy of "The Electro Wars", a modern electronic music documentry that follows the likes of MSTRKRFT, A-Trak, The Beatroots, Steve Aoki (etc.). I've been waiting to check this out since it's teaser dropped last summer. If electronic music is your thing , this is an OBVIOUS MUST WATCH. If it isn't? I feel like this is a great opportunity for you to catch a glipse of why we love to dance around like crazy people. "the love of music is ageless..." Electro Wars - Pitchfork [...]
What better way to celebrate #MusicMonday then by devouring a brand new spring mix from an SS favorite? Ashley Jones is back with more upbeat, pure tasty disco gold for your mind. This mix probably couldn't have dropped at a more opportune time for us Toronto folk as Mister Fingers will be spinning at The Social this Saturday . Be there or be square. Treasure Fingers 2011 Spring Mix (right click, save as)
After hearing his remix of John Legend's "Rolling in the Deep" cover , I knew EvC was a french producer I had to keep an eye on. Luckily, he's recently dropped probably the freshest remix of Pheonix's "Lisztomania" I've heard. Jane Elizabeth Hanley's vocals add a special emotional touch that allow this remix to reach levels the original couldn't. Sit back, relax, and tell me this track doesn't evoke some seriously sweet dreams. Also check out his brand new April mix, filled to the brim with high quality french house/nu-disco goodness. Phoenix - [...]
I won't soon forget the I first time I saw Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs spin at the Mod Club. His sound, while maybe being to electronic for some, was so unique that it stole my undivided attention. Check out his newest single "Trouble" below, and make sure you follow him on soundcloud and twitter . T.E.E.D - Trouble (Original)
Eh! Team Dj/producer Drastik has dropped a new "Happy Endings" mix in preperation of his May 20th show at Fortune Sound in Van City. After finishing 3rd in the world at Red Bull's Three Style in January, he's a must follow to say the least. Check your shoelaces, this mix squeezes in more dance tracks then I thought was humanly possible. Sidenote: He's most recently teamed up with Tom Wrecks to release a pretty sweet remix of " Look At Me Now ". If you haven't checked out the monthly ITZOWEEZEE party at the Drake, you're missing out. DJ Drastik - [...]
I was beginning to ask myself, 'What ever happened to Santigold?'. Thankfully a new track from the L.E.S Artistes songstress produced by herself, Q-tip and Switch has been revealed to the world in anticipation of her upcoming album (so stoked!)...AND it's featuring another great female indie rock 2010 icon KAREN O., the lead singer of Yeah Yeah Yeahs . It's slightly haunting, but upbeat. 'GO' listen here: http://lifeandtimes.com/americ an-dreaming (aka Jay's new lifestyle blog + website)
Yes! So stoked. Digitalism have released their first single from their second studio album "I Love U, Dude". Their dance pop sound is the definition of fused rave and rock. "Idealism" (their first full length) basically acts as the blue prints for most of the electro rock you hear today. Their newest single "2 Hearts" shows progression as it sounds more indie-rockish then their older material. This album might be my most anticipated of 2011. Digitalism - 2 Hearts ( download )
