First it was Wiz, then Biggie, now it's Mark Morrison who gets Viceroy's "Jet Life" treatment. This mix series is all about the marriage between disco and hip hop (basically my two favourite things in the world). It's like stuffing ice cream sandwiches with fuzzy peaches. Either way, make sure you follow this guy on facebook so you can be ready for the next Jet Life release. Mark Morrison - Return of the Mack (Viceroy "Jet Life" remix)
I love this guy's disco sampled originals. All about retro-groove. If you haven't checked out his Kool & The Gang remix , make sure you do that too. Alexandre Louvre - "This Feeling"
Poolside's "Do You Believe" is one of those tracks that you still hear in mixes even though it was released over a year ago. Kartell have funked it'd up with some spacey synths ontop of a more relaxed pace. Poolside - "Do You Believe" (Kartell remix)
Did you know that Perseus is french for "future". Ok, well not really... But there's so much buzz around his tropical touch that they might as well change the definition. In his recent original "Love in Zanzibar", he samples the soul of Mary J. Blige and places it on some sunshine funk. Love the deep disco feel. Perseus - Love in Zanzibar
After what seems like a season of hibernation, disco/house music is finally in bloom! Check out these top tracks to start your weekend off right: Just as the genre says, this song is for people who like eating cupcakes so naturally I am enjoying this scrumptious track very much. Thanks Michael for the exclusive on this one! Cassara - The World Is Yours (Geisha Twins Remix) THEY ARE BACK. From the people who brought you 'Kelly', the 80s-esque indie track whose remix by Breakbot is [...]
I'm a bit of a digital trend nerd, so when I read that Cadillac was releasing their newest Daft Punk cover via a store front QR code, I thought it was pretty cool. Then I realized I don't live in Australia and was immediately sad. Thank goodness for our friends at Golden Sisters who've done the dirty work for us and posted it to sound cloud! Now how do I cancel this flight... Daft Punk - Too Long (Cadillac Cover)
Immersed in finger snaps and whistles, "Float" is one of the more charming singles I've heard this year. The type of title track that can improve your mood almost instantly. The carefree vibe is almost infectious, don't you think? KO KO - "Float"
I'm a little late on this one, but I couldn't not share it for fear of even one person missing out. If you haven't heard this track yet, stop what you're doing and if G. Vump 6 minutes of your life. You won't regret it. G. Vump - "Feeling"
God damn this song. Loving the high energy hand claps, swooping synths, chopped up vocals and catchy kick drum. DJ EQ – Appleseed (Moonchild Remix)
French duo Jupiter have followed up their stellar Blackjoy remix with this beauty. Expect a funked up randition of the Supermen Lovers' newest single “Say No More” which is due for official release on March 26. Other remixes on the single include ex Mustang member A.N.D.Y, so keep an eye out! The Supermen Lovers - "Say No More" (Jupiter remix)
If you follow us on a regular basis, you're well aware of my obsession with throwback synth pop. Future Unlimited's first EP drips of 802s authenticity. My highlights are the brooding "Easy Ways" and the high energy "Golden". What about you? Future Unlimited - EP
Yes, ladies and gents you've read it correct. Snoop Dogg has made his Surrounding Sounds debut with his 'TEKNO EURO MIXX' and permeated the world of electronic music (sans David Guetta might I add). It's such a change from his infamous South Central LA hardcore rap productions so I was shocked to see that deep house and Snoop Dogg were in the same sentence. Take a listen for yourself and I think you will be pleasantly surprizzled.
Since it's release in early February, Ben Browning's "I Can't Stay" has had me counting down the days to beautiful weather. Now that it's finally arrived, we can also enjoy the rest of the "Lover Motion" EP along side the memorable single. Ben Browning - "Love Motion" EP
It's been a minute since we've heard from the quirky yet very talented blokes from Hot Chip, but fear not, their 5th album 'In Our Head' releases June 12th with much anticipation. In the meantime watch this clip of their new track 'Flutes'. Word of warning, if you got motion sickness watching Blair Witch I don't recommend staring at this one too long. Great song though! See them live in Toronto on Sunday, July 15 at the Sound Academy.
If funk had an evil twin, this is what it'd sound like. "In the Labyrinth EP you can catch Joakim’s darker DJ friend extended mix, a lush analog slow burner from Canadian duo and Domino Records regulars the Junior Boys, an even slower – borderline chopped and screwed – melodic mix from UK producer Lone and a dirty arpeggiated beast from Deadstock 33s and Stopmakingme." via Future Classic Joakim - Labyrinth EP
My favorite Australian creators of dreamy disco have released a brand new track 'Lost in the Crowd'. When I hear it, I think sunshine, summer and first loves. Their first single ' Getaway ' is still one of my favorites and Yale are definitely a band to keep on your radar. If only John Hughes were still alive, this would definitely be on the soundtrack for one of his famed coming of age, teenager in the 80s movies. Yale - Lost in the Crowd
I first started listening to Gloves after I first set ears on his " Changes " remix (back in 08... time flies...). I love this track for the same reasons. Heavy, drawn out bass synths with a catchy melodic chorus. Mr. Jigga - "Won't U B Mine" (Gloves remix)
Poindexter's minimalist/light synth approach allows him to create a type of pop-funk music not heard very often. His newest "Tough Love" remix is another vocal lead track (like his must hear James Black remix ), but it's the whirling keys and bass that make it something you'll have on repeat all evening. Sailor and I - "Tough Love" (Poindexter Remix)
Another day, another share worthy re-imaging from the minds of RAC. Instead of a remix, Andres and Liz Anjos have decided to release another one of their covers in celebration of 15k facebook friends (If you haven't, check out their first cover of " 1979 ") . Phil Collins has never felt so synthy. RAC - "I Don't Wanna Know" (Phil Collins Cover)
Break ups can be tough. The emotional backlash, division of possessions, un-friending/re-friending and vicious cycle of ice-cream sandwiches and bags of dill pickle chips. Luckily in the disco world they can lead to bigger and better solo careers. I mean, without Aeroplane's demise, we wouldn't have The Magician. And that's a world I simply don't want to live in. Here we have A.N.D.Y (one half of recently divorced Mustang) showing he can still leave behind must-hear groovy sunday afternoon mixtapes. With remixes on the horizen for Supermen Lovers and Jupiter, I'd keep tabs on this guy. A.N.D.Y - Tape [...]
