Tweet General Fiasco are one of those bands I think perhaps I shouldn't like. They're not particularly innovate or new, they come with no punk attitude or hipster swagger. They're just a punch of teeenage looking lads producing guitar goodness that teenagers probably like, singing about things teenagers care about it. It's all very teenage. Being marginally the wrong side of 30 I sort of feel that perhaps this should be below me, inferior, immature, music in nappies whilst my music taste is [...]

Tweet As a teenager I'd often arrive home late and find my dad sitting in his dressing gown sipping Whisky. Apparently he couldn't sleep and needed a 'night cap' to seal the deal. "It'll happen to you one day son" was a common heard warning. Sadly it does seem I'm slowly becoming more like my dad as on occasion I find myself awake and with Scotch. Though I must add I'm keeping the obsession with model trains at bay, for the time being that is... [...]

Tweet Out next month on Text Records, this track from Juk Juk , aka London-based Caleb Waterman, is something special. A smooth house jig that turns nasty on your ass half way through. Unearthed and due on Four Tet 's (how does he keep doing it?) label. Nice.

Tweet Enough birthday celebrations. On with the music. Baby-faced Bombay Bicycle Club have remixed Louisiana's Givers ' Meantime single, ahead of the release of their In Light LP on 10th October. The dubwise bassline is wonderful, especially at the end, but if you turn it up loud enough to take advantage, your ears are burst with the treble. Still worth it.

Tweet We may have gone a little over the top with our birthday 'festivities' this week. Apologies. Most blogs / websites probably don't even notice when birthday time comes round and if they do I'd imagine it only warrants a tweet or other passing reference. We've marked our first birthday with our very own mixtape split into Side A and Side B . Also our 2 other contributors have looked back on a year of blogging and listed their top [...]

Tweet I love birthdays! I also love lists. So being asked to list my five favourite tunes posted on SGTMT this year to celebrate our first birthday is a real treat. I've discovered literally heaps of great music since I started babbling about music I like for your enjoyment. Artists I hadn't heard of and now soundtrack my life. Or music from acts I was already into that I hadn't come across before. It's been a riot. Whittling down all my waffling to my [...]

Tweet Birthday Mixtape - Side A by Soundsgoodtometoo A year ago today I was still recovering from the Reading Festival and sat at home contemplating that perhaps my musical career was never quite going to happen. It had been over a decade since Brother Jonny and the Monks and I still hadn't learnt to actually play any instruments. Time to move on. Instead, I decided to instigate the next best thing; a music blog. 2 hours later Sounds Good [...]

Tweet Ralph, Piggy, Jack and a whole plane load of adolescent boys crash land on a Desert Island, is a 'Famous Five' style adventure about to take place? Nope. William Golding had other plans and Lord of the Flies descends into a gruesome exploration of the inner evils of mankind. As famous as that story maybe, I'll admit I never quite expected the novel would be depicted again in a music video but Funeral Suits had other ideas: [...]

Tweet Its a chicken Apparently we have been blogging on this poor excuse for a music blog for a year. Its funny how a year flys when you have an annoying brother. A great deal has happened in this last year. I cannot remember any of it. Sooooooooo Ah yes! I have been instructed to blog my five favourite tunes that I have put on the site this year. So, in no particular order here they are [...]

Tweet Watching 'live' performances on the TV or Internet is a bittersweet experience. You feel pleased that you don't have to miss out but at the same time you're made even more aware how much you're missing out. You can relax on the sofa, rather than stand for seemingly unending, back aching hours. You can crack open a beer not purchased for £4.50. You can stay dry with no fear of British weather falling from the sky or British teenage urine falling from a passing beer can / urinal. [...]

Tweet You won't understand this tune the first time you hear it. You can try but you just won't. It's baffling. It's like someone took the 1980s, drowned it in lemonade, then froze it and buried it deep in your chest freezer (the old skool freezers your mum used to have, perfect for storing dead bodies). Now, 25 years later, Com Truise has retrieved the 80s from your mum's chest freezer, attached some jump leads to it's nipples and sparked it back to life [...]

Tweet I'm watching highlights from Reading & Leeds on BBC3. My Chemical Romance are on, they're kinda Emo Punk meets S Club 7, I've only just realised. Fortunately my TV has a mute button and my MacBook has handy volume controls to turn up this beaut of a track from teenage indie kings Wild Mercury Sound . If you like what you hear then you can get Miss Frost when it's released in October or you can check them out on [...]

Tweet It's been a quiet month at SGTMT headquarters as a combination of work (bad) and holiday (good) have taken priority. Whilst we've been away music submissions have been gathering dust in the in-tray alongside the moldy apples in the fruit bowl and scented by the sweaty gym socks we left hanging over the radiator. Armed with bin bags and air freshener we've quickly rifled through the musical treats awaiting us and first up we hit this new tune from Breton . Excited! [...]

Tweet Rockwell 's drum n bass productions are meticulously engineered, everything in it's right place. This sits well with us at SGTMT, we approve of attention to detail. His works are usually pretty dark and cold, but his remix of Friction 's Someone has a surprisingly warm depth to it, like taking a bath in comforting bass. Out now on Shogun Audio.

Tweet Ashley Beedle's Black Science Orchestra made New Jersey Deep in 1994 and it's still on the SGTMT stereo. A journey deep into funk and house territory, with a bassline that refuses to let you stay still. As for those sweeping keys, well ! I doubt this will ever be out of the pile of records we keep next to the office stereo for easy access. Hunt it down on Junior Boy's [...]

Tweet I've been on a journey with Lady Gaga . Not a long coach journey, I'm not sure how I'd cope. More an emotional roller coaster. When she started making waves and gave Cher her meat clutch bag to hold I stood up for her, at least she was trying. Bad Romance was awesome too, for a time. It didn't take long for her to make her way back onto the wrong side of the amusing / annoying line though, bless [...]

Tweet Last night this writer took to the decks at a party for the first time in 11 years. Hilarity ensued, mainly due to the fact that everything in the DJ booth moved if you touched it. Actually, if you touched one thing, a record for example, everything in the booth moved with it. Any thoughts of a smooth mix-out went out of the window straight away, but luckily the main thing is great music. I hope so anyway. Re-discovered last night: this delightful [...]

Tweet Sampha , fresh from showcasing his crooning on SBTRKT's LP has let a demo, we think, of Indecision surface online. It's a piano-based dose of real beauty, Sampha's enchanting voice given an elegant canvas to cover. His production is pretty damn good too, here's Valentine with Jessie Ware : More from this man soon would be very welcome.

Tweet Two of our favourite artists collide as Mario & Vidis rework Little Dragon 's Thunder Love , making it 100% a trademark Mario & Vidis tune and 100% a trademark Little Dragon tune. Not easy to do. Because that's, well that's 200%. I like the sub bass. Two tremendous artists coming together doesn't always result in more than the sum of their parts, but here it's so, so good. Excellent work all round guys. High [...]
