Tweet Vincent Haycock has made a totally cool new video for Jamie Woon’s Lady Luck , from his Mirrorwriting LP we wrote about a little while ago. It’s very good. The first half where we’re looking at a pretty girl is better than the second half when we’re looking at Woon’s mug, nice as it is, but there you go.

Tweet Hailing from Perth, Australia but now based in Sheffield, we give you the sensational; The Monicans . I've always been wary of Australian music until I recently stumbled across The Jezabels . I'll avoid amateur comparisons between The Monicans & The Jezabels but let's just say they're both worth checking out. The Monicans have done very well in the local Sheffield scene, which is no mean feat, but Epic Entree might just be the record [...]

Tweet Now, us at SGTMT, we like good music. Some people only like new music, good or bad. We like good music, new or old. Which is why when I realised I’d forgotten to write about this Rioux song months ago it’s not a problem. It’s still good. And it’s free. I like that too. This one, Flow , is free too.

Tweet This is supposed to be 'X' but after searching high and low I could only find one X blog and it sucked. If you have an X blog that we've missed then please get in touch and we'll consider adding X back in. Nonetheless we were not to be perturbed and have decided to replace X with a 'number' blog. So let us introduce you to our honorary X in the A to Z of Music Blogs: 1146 Miles [...]

Tweet Dearest Dave, Long time lister, first time writer. I have a bit of a problem with you at the moment and I would like to put it out into the open so that things don't become awkward. I hate it when there are unresolved issues between people. Obviously you do not know me but my opinion is important, at least in my own mind. Anyway, here is my issue - Who cares if you are the nicest man in Rock? What does that even mean anyway? You compliment [...]

Tweet Hype puts me right off. If everyone is going on about something I generally give it a miss because I just know it’s going to suck. On occasion I’m forced to experience the thing everyone’s going on about against my will and that rarely ends well. My mind’s already made up: I’m going to hate it. This is exactly what happened on a trip to the movies last year. My friends wanted to see The Social Network . [...]

Tweet I'm drinking wine straight out the bottle. Don't fear, this isn't my admission of a debilitating addiction, the missus and I had a bottle last night and left barely a mouthful in the bottom. I'm just cleaning it up and decided a glass would be superfluous. That ramble has no connection with the mighty Pope Joan , though the wine was a fine companion to enjoy this excellent track with. Anyway... Way, way back at the dawn of the year we kindly [...]

Tweet Back in April we introduced all our regular readers (hi Tom & Tim) to the sensational Other Lives . Since then they've kindly let me listen to a sneak preview of their upcoming second album Tamer Animals . Which I predict will be a firm favourite in everyone's 'albums of the year' lists come December. From delicately placed horns on the opener Dark Horse through to the vibrant strings on the closing Landforms [...]

Tweet I grew up thinking French kids were weird and unfashionable. They'd show up on foreign exchanges with ruck-sacks worn over BOTH shoulders. In Bedford, 1995 only one shoulder was acceptable. These things are important when you're 14. Along with the ruck-sack faux pas, brightly coloured trainers and turn ups were in abundance and also; they spoke funny. The future has proven that the French kids were alright after all and in limited musical genres (obscure and beat laden electronica) they're a full [...]

Tweet We at SGTMT Towers are big fans of Blu Mar Ten. Every time we move premises and unpack, the first thing we do is set up the decks and play their stunning Blush to christen the place: Then we can start on building the bed. You can see we've got our priorities in good order, music comes first, even if we have to sleep on the floor for the first night. This, by the way, is [...]

Tweet I’m on a bit of a Brownswood tip at the moment, thanks to Gang Colours, who we talked about the other day . Pedestrian, a producer who describes his music as “a little bass-driven ray of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy morning” had his Hei Poa released as part of Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers vol 6 . Good grief that is some proper bass music with some proper soul going on right there! Wonderful [...]

Tweet Recently a lot of people have been talking about Get People and in particular there single Away which they've kindly let the world download and play as many times as they want for free. Revolutionary. I've not been wild about them but can't quite figure out why. Maybe they're one of those bands that are like learning to drink tea. You're not following me are you... I'll explain; my first taste of tea was not pleasant, it wasn't [...]

Tweet Wow, time flies eh? Tricky is 43 years old now. How did that happen? I hope I’m as cool as him when I’m that age. He’s releasing Time To Dance , from last year’s Mixed Race LP, as a digital single next month, with remixes, but I’m reminded of how good the original is: Effortlessly awesome.

Tweet ICR’s mother knows him as Zoltan Gal. I’d love to have a first name like Zoltan. I wouldn’t be a mild-mannered ice cream salesman* by day and music blogger by night with a name like that. I’d be freakishly tall, have an odd little pointed goatee, wear a silk cape with gold piping and be secretly working on a plan to overthrow the government and enslave the people. There’s no evidence that ICR is working on such a plan, yet, [...]

Tweet I first met drum n bass pioneer Blame many years ago when we hooked up for an interview for Good Looking Records. Back then he was a key part of the GLR setup, but he was already heading in his own direction through his own 720° imprint and soon enough he was off to pursue his own sound without the GLR boundaries. Over the next few years, Blame’s sound touched on a heap of different styles and these days, for the time [...]

Tweet A release on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings is a sure sign of quality. Southampton-born producer Gang Colours released his debut In Your Gut Like A Knife EP on said label yesterday and here’s a teaser of the four tracks: He’s also come with this totally awesome remix of Lucky Paul’s Thought We Were Alone : I love those female vocal clips, the delicate cymbal and [...]

Tweet This year's Record Store Day saw a load of cool releases. One was an EP of Jónsi remixes. SGTMT favourites F**k Buttons mixed Tornado for the Go Out EP and it’s now available to listen to on the internets: I really like the passage from 1m25s to 2m28s. Jónsi's voice is splendid isn't it? The WLD PTCH remix of Around Us from the same EP is here too: [...]

Tweet It’s almost Monday morning again. Back to work already. Sigh . I need something for the early morning rat-race that’s going to shake me up. I’m going with Lagwagon. If I’m honest, I often go with Lagwagon. They always get me ready for the day and no mistake. Ever since a fellow SGTMT writer introduced me to them as a small boy they have been one of the bands I treasure [...]

Tweet London-based Dutch producer Vandera is a scientist by day and a bass enthusiast by night. That happens a lot these days doesn’t it? Vandera’s dubstep tunes have been keeping me interested for a while, but I’m really feeling his VIP of Move On , forthcoming on Subdepth Records: Niiice production. His remix of Actraiser’s Solstice, also forthcoming on the same label is tasty too: [...]

Tweet Out since 14th February but permanently on my stereo, I can’t stop listening to Skream’s drum n bass/140bm remix of Cassius’ I Love U So today. Croydon’s where it’s at. Did you miss it first time round because you were otherwise engaged on Valentines Day? Hang on, if the other writers come back from their holidays and all I’ve posted is drum n bass I’m going to be in trouble… [...]
