There's been a bit of a craze sweeping the electronic music world. It's called Moombahton, and here's how it came to be: So I had the idea of slowing down some of the tropical/Dutch house stuff I had on CDs. Afrojack’s “Moombah Remix” being the biggest tune, I said fuck it and turned that shit down to 108 bpm. JP told all his people about me so bamas started cheering when I went on. And that’s when shit popped the fuck off. The minute that T-t-t-t-turn up the bass! part came in and dropped the [...]

Hi everyone, As you're probably already aware, (if you watch the news or follow DJ Silkworm on Twitter ), the New Zealand city of Christchurch (in which I happen to live) was hit by a pretty devastating earthquake , so between getting sent away with no internet and sorting everything out afterwards, I've been relatively busy, and hence haven't been updating DJ Silkworm. Unfortunately, I can't go back in time and create some more posts, so I'll just have to overload you with the sheer volume of a ton of mixes, some dubsteppy, some anything but. [...]

Sleigh Bells have been taking the music world by storm, (featured in many blogs' top albums of the year lists and receiving virtually universal critical acclaim from mainstream critics). Their songs could be described as a unique type of noise pop (it's exactly what it sounds like - pop, except with loud, distorted, bassy, over the top noise). And I love it. Despite their universal acclaim, I found them via some more unusual methods. Infinity Guitars This is how I first heard Sleigh Bells: on [...]
So I'm gonna start up an intermittent series of posts, mainly because there's a ton of awesome mashups around. Mashups are are a special sort of song, because they by definition contain no new material, and yet they always seem to be able to bring something new and unheard to the table. Most of the joy in listening to the best of them is not just in the track itself but the fact that two totally different genres combine in a way never thought possible, sort of like when your mix two different spreads on your toast and it just [...]
![Spotlight on Lil Wayne [Covers, Eminem, Datsik]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3171924_lg.jpg)
For me, Lil Wayne has been very hit and miss. His musical backing is often scarce, but yet to me, many of them are some of the most infectiously iconic of the last decade (think Lollipop). His rapping style is utterly unique in its spoken, almost creaky, intonations but he can also bust out something aggressive too (just as long as he's not busting out the autotune, which he's doing horribly far too often). But he's still got a hell of a lot of good songs, and as you'll see, his influence is undeniable. Covers [...]
![The Hype Machine’s Zeitgeist Mixes [Top Songs of 2010]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3151919_lg.jpg)
The Hype Machine have done something awesome: they've enlisted five artists to make a mix each. The catch? The songs in the mixes were selected from The Hype Machine's top 50 songs of 2010 as selected by music bloggers. There's all sorts in there, so you'll be sure to find a mix you like. My favourites? The Knocks vs The Hype Machine, and The Glitch Mob vs the Hype Machine, The Knocks mix a perfect laidback electro-upbeat collection perfect for any summer day, and The Glitch Mob's with a bit more hip-hop and bass (still with a real nice warm uplifting feel), [...]
![Blood Bros: Because 80s Action Movies Are Epic [Mixtapes]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3124711_lg.jpg)
80s Action Movies. Specifically, the music. It's oh so good, just ignore the corniness and put yourself in the macho action hero's place, you can surely achieve some superhuman feats. TRAIN! FIGHT! WIN! This is the first volume of the Blood Bros - a DJ duo creating mixtapes of the best of 80s action movie soundtracks. More than just a compilation of songs, the mix is 100% designed to follow the course of a film, starting with Training, moving on to the Fight....then finally, celebrating the triumph over the rival. Put this mix [...]

Only just got back from holiday and Tuesday beckons, so here's another short post for ya (you'll probably need it after last weeks gargantuan Best Dubstep Mixes of 2010 post). Let's get straight into it: here's a couple of neato Zelda Remixes for you. Tettix - Zelda Dark Dungeon While the original 8-bit masterpiece is everything a dungeon theme should be - a little creepy, a little despairing, heavily looped, and extremely catchy (not that it needed to be - you could learn a language with the amount of time you get stuck [...]
![Poll Results: Best Dubstep Mix of 2010 [Excision, TROWA, 12th Planet & Nero]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3087254_lg.jpg)
Now I'm gonna be straight up here: you guys had absolutely no say in nominations. I just needed to stick a poll up on the site, and so just chose my faves. But anyway, here's the results, and by definition, a list of popular dubstep mixes from the year 2010. It's interesting to note that all the nominations are free to download! Is it because I listen to more free mixes because I'm a cheap ass? Is it because free mixes are inherently better? I'd be interested to hear your opinion on this in the comments (and of course any [...]
![Get Filthy with Kano’s Jack Bauer 7 Day Mixtape [Grime]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3075257_lg.jpg)
When I first heard it, I assumed Kano's Jack Bauer mixtape was grime, though I'd never been exposed to the genre before. My preconceptions of the genre were of someone with a British accent aggressively spittin' a rap over some bassy beats, and well, that sums up the Jack Bauer mixtape nicely. I'm quite a fan of this mixtape, the sampling and reworkings are simply sublime. Take the opening track, You are Young. The way it degrades (and I mean that in a good way) from a sickeningly pompous and happy scene lifted from Sweeney Todd into a dark a dark and epic [...]
This is a post I've done for another blog ( Silence Nogood ). Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months (and it’d have to be a rock without access to the internet or mainstream radio), you’ll have been exposed to Far East Movement’s “ Like a G6 “. Love it or hate it, it’s topped charts everywhere. And with any huge hit, comes a shitload of remixes. “Like a G6″ is no exception – there’s a ton of ‘em, so there’s no excuse not to find at least one to fall in [...]
A wise man once told me something: There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who like dark heavy warbly futuristic industrial dubstep, and those who don't. The first kind will love Excision's Shambhala mixes. The second kind will not. Well, I actually made that quote up, but it's still absolutely true. Anyway, just to give you some background on the Shambhala Music Festival - there's this little village in Canada called Salmo, and it's not that notable except for the fact that [...]

Girl singing originally by William Clark There's a ton of catchy songs out there with catchy female vocals that are just a joy to listen to. But for the ultimate in enjoyable listening, you can't beat them being fleshed out with some heavier, generally less subtle backing. Now, if only someone was to compile a list of such remixes... 6. Warrior (TROWA Remix) - vocals by Anjulie Admittedly, this is a remix of a song that was [...]

photo credit: Jorge Michel If you stopped me on the street and said, "So, what genre music do The Cool Kids make?", I'd have to respond with "Hip Hop". But then I'd have to chase you down the street to elaborate, because to describe them with something as broad as that would be simply unacceptable. The Cool Kids peddle heavy, catchy, laid-back, simple rhymes over heavy, catchy, laid-back, simple beats. The sorta music that just make you want to get on a BMX and cruise down the street. Oh, [...]
