Only 8 more days until the premiere webisode of The Steam Co. bicoastal music love affair podcast comes to a computer/iPod/electrathing near you. "Arcade Fire - Ready to Start" xoxo, Katie & Alyssa

The ladies of the Steam Co. love our dogs. Katie lives with pups Diane and Coco, and Alyssa with Ms. Winnie. In addition to her Ms. W., Alyssa has been sitting for her two nieces for the past few days, bringing her doggie total to an unmanageable 3. No matter how much we love them, this week has drawn to a close with the conclusion that more than two woofers in an apartment are just too many, especially for just one gal. To the end of Alyssa's dogsitting days and in honor of the pups we [...]
![congratulations Katie Curran (she is a Master [of the universe and music business])](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3469802_lg.jpg)
TheSteamCo took a little break. And now we're ready to come back ... with big new plans up our fashionable sleeves. But the break came with good reason, so I would like to say to the newest and mostly aptly titled master of music business katie curran: CONGRATUFUCKINLATIONS. you now deserve a v&t, a nap, and a small break before the real world breaks down your door. (folks, the real world has already been prepared for katie's awesomeness.) So here it is: A mini mix for you, Katie. "Cults - Go Outside" [...]

Hi dear readers, friends, lovers and internet stalkers, Alyssa has been tearing it up on here while I've been MIA with papers. But good news! In addition to graduating soon, I finally got myself to Madison Square Garden, losing my MSG honor to not only one but two major shows this month. Better late than never - here you go! LCD's Last Show Yep. I went there. And it was amazeballs. I certainly danced myself clean at this show and loved when this song started as the (obvious) [...]

The Steam Co. gals love a good roadtrip, and luckily so do many of our By Request readers. This mix comes to you courtesy of Steam Co. friend Mackenzie, who is heading from the middle/west to the west coast with her pop next weekend. Enjoy the drive! "Beach Boys - Good Vibrations" "Dirty Gold - California Sunrise" "Local Natives - Sun Hands" "Bright Eyes - Another Travelin' Song" "Joni Mitchell - California" [...]

It wasn't me that picked up the May 2011 issue of Elle Magazine in the grocery shopping line, but when we got close to the register, I said I'd get it after looking over his shoulder. It was the Elle Music issue, and so far, I've found their short editorial pieces on women in music pretty intriguing. Gwen Stefani is the cover girl (a la the Don't Speak music video? what DID happen to the rest of No Doubt?) but she appears on at least two different covers that I've seen so far, and has definitely become, in [...]
I'm not sure, but based on the line at Sonic Boom in Ballard, I'm guessing that Record Store Day was a success. It's great that we can come out in droves to support our local record stores, as well as the artists and musicians we love - either those with special Record Store Day releases (I found the Cults 73 for Abducted!) or if something else caught your eye as you browsed through the vinyl (coughlonelyavenuebenfoldssets thewordsofnickhornbytomusiccou ghimanerdcough) it was a great day (and a relatively sunny day, in Seattle, to be out shopping for tunes. So here is my [...]

In case you needed a reminder - your taxes are due today. And for the first time since I've started doing my own taxes, I'm getting money back from the government. So I just wanted to say, thanks places I worked for, for giving TOO MUCH money to the government so that it would seem like I get a great present at tax time, essentially leaving me a little delusional about what taxes actually mean. "Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings - Money" xoxo, alyssa ps: i LOVE [...]
![BY [our] REQUEST: sometimes we’re only human. – the mix](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3369825_lg.jpg)
Sometimes we're only human. We're busy and sick, and we don't to a request from one of you fine folks. Our apologies - but we are only human. But if you have a request, we're ready to start on it now, so email us (blog@thesteamco.com) and we'll start working on it before life gets in the way. In between thesis writing and coughs. Because sometimes we're human, and we know you are too. "Wolf Parade - I'll Believe In Anything" "Rilo Kiley - I Never" "Sparkle [...]
Last night I traipsed over to Spike Hill in Brooklyn to hang out with Lawrence and Leigh, the irresistibly adorable Brooklyn duo who, much to the enthusiasm of their loyal fans, were taking their traditionally acoustic set electric. It was the first time I had seen Andrew Kalleen and Kristin Stokes perform though they've been on the Brooklyn acoustic scene for a bit now, wowing fans with their on-stage unplugged performance and surprising them with the electronically progressive recordings they create. Bringing their computer to the stage seemed to freeing in spite of any hesitations they may have [...]

Despite the name of this new song from Surfer Blood, recorded live in DC, "I'm Not Ready," I'm very ready for something new from my favorite band of 2010. It sounds like they have plans to release a new EP - but I'm hoping it's not a live record. Their new song can be download from their website, here . They're on tour now with ... And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Our Dead and will be at Sasquatch! Memorial Day weekend. xoxo, alyssa

On Monday it felt like spring, and looking out the window it was worse - it looked like summer. So it only makes sense that it's time for insatiable craving for surf music to kick in. Enter new favorite Oregon Bike Trails. Lo-Fi, very sweet-sounding band out of Santa Monica California, only has a few tracks up on their bandcamp , but they are showing a lot of promise. Check out these two tracks below. "Oregon Bike Trails - Swimsuit" "Oregon Bike Trails - Deep Sea Diver [...]

The discovery in of Cults in my life has been quite a welcome to the daily music grind. Without being too poppy, they get nestled in your head like a little nugget of good music. I've been listening to their 73 aptly titled Cults and it's pretty delightful. They'll be playing the Crocodile tonight, so I might see you there. "Cults - Go Outside" xoxo, alyssa
![i didn’t know: [video] Fiona Apple w/ Zach Galifianakis](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3359816_lg.jpg)
I LOVED Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine . I would sing loud and proud the lyrics to the title song (mostly in the acoustics of the Thorson Hall bathroom when no one else was around) and listened to the full album over and over again. But I never saw the video - which is hilarious. Though, in 2005, not being in tune with the independent comedy scene, I wouldn't have known who Zach Galifianakis was. But I'm not sure that would have made a huge difference. Regardless - this weekend I found the video and it makes me die of [...]
![[newmusicalert] YACHT – Dystopia](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3341691_lg.jpg)
There are many things to love about YACHT. The infectious beats of their tunes, their ability to get a GOOD song stuck in your head - their bio that makes them sound like a cult (though they say it's no cult.) And now we have one more thing to love from the this duo: a new song. "YACHT - Dystopia" The new album from YACHT, Shangri-La , is due out this summer, and will be in New York on April 27 and Seattle on May 12. [...]
