![[video] Fleet Foxes – Grown Ocean](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3341696_lg.jpg)
I was thinking maybe I wouldn't post this - since the whole music world has already gone crazy for Fleet Foxes and I don't have a whole lot to add to the conversation. But I saw this video last week and so many things about just warm my heart. It's kind of like looking at a family photo album and remembering all of the best times. If you haven't checked it out, you should. xoxo, alyssa

The Standards A week late but still close to our memories, here's to a lady who loved and lost and loved again more than most of us could dream. Any guy who wouldn't have married Liz Taylor (the 1st, 2nd, or 6th time) isn't fit to shine my boots. Here's to you, Ms. Taylor. "Belle & Sebastian - Dylan in the Movies" xoxo, katie the standards come out on the steam co. every monday and [...]

A few weeks back a Steam Co reader said they were so overjoyed with their new MacBook Pro that it deserved its own mix. But one day you're in - the next day you're out, when it comes to Project Runway, and the world computers, supercomputers and microchips. The day Katie got her iPhone - she was thrilled. While her iPhone still works fine - that was TWO iPhones ago. And Alyssa was thrilled to recieve her MacBook, back in 2007. Now she just dreams of much prettier MacBook Pro. So for those few moments when you are leading [...]

fyi: I posted this earlier at MyNW.com - the place where I spend my work week ... In Rainn Wilson's latest attempt to rule all media (which I believe he's taking over, slowly but surely,) The Office star and misguided Super hero is now hanging out with indie bands making short films. The premise of the dark short film, Blitzen Trapper Massacre, pits a sad, misguided Wilson against Portland folk rockers Blitzen Trapper. When Wilson isn't allowed to join the band on stage [...]
![[video] ravenna woods – “we want it all”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3325452_lg.jpg)
friend of the steam co, photographer james bailey , recently got to venture out with seattle band Ravenna Woods as they made their way by minivan to SXSW. On the way he documented many of their adventures on the KEXP blog which feature some rather fantastic photos and write-ups. But he also did a couple of videos - one that you can watch below, and one that I'm very excited to see in the near future that features a white sand backdrop. Watch "We Want It All" right here: xoxo, [...]

Someone passed along some tracks from The Joy Formidable to me recently - but before I could dive in they started popping up on my favorite blogs, the radio on my sad car stereo, and friends' gchat messages. So if you're not into it yet, maybe it's time that you check them out yourself. "The Joy Formidable - The Magnifying Glass" "The Joy Formidable - Austere" xoxo, alyssa

The Steam Co. is lucky to have some pretty awesome friends (just like you, loyal reader and accidental, happy passer-by!) - and our lady Di is one of those. This acclaimed brow guru (really! check her out in NY Mag's best of NYC here ) takes her fabulous self to the Upper East side each morning, and asked us for some help get her ready for Brooklyn on her subway ride home. Here's to you Di - it's quittin' time: Welcome back to the BK! "Beastie Boys - No Sleep Til' Brooklyn" [...]

It's the weekend of SXSW. Maybe you're there, like Katie, soaking up the good music, having a lonestar and rubbing elbows with other music-lovers. But you might not be there, like Alyssa, who is instead about to run for the border, (literally.) Either way, the requests came in from several Steam Co readers, and their request was epic: GIVE ME SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST they said. And so it was. "Smith Westerns - Perfect in My Mind" "Ellie Goulding - Lights" "Lower Dens - Blue [...]

This week's BY REQUEST comes to us from The Steam Co.'s friend Anthony, who has spent a week in the office having 90's song off's with his co-workers. And winning. Here's to you, dear sir, and to your hopes and dreams of 90's DJ domination. We miss the decade just like you do, and even more than VH1. "The Spice Girls - Wannabe" "Oasis - Wonderwall" "Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit" "P.Diddy and the Family [...]

Charlie in the good ol' days. The Standards Everyone is living the Sheen dream these days, amirite? Thanks Charlie, for informing these new standards for dates to be. You meet the standards if: 1. You have tiger blood. I don't know where it's supposed to be but you have it. 2. You are winning. 3. You are a bitchin' warlock. 4. You have one speed, and one gear: go. 5. You are not Charlie Sheen. [...]

THE KING OF LIMBS HAS BEEN OUT FOR A LITTLE WHILE! As you all know, friends, lovers, and internet stalkers, I love the Radiohead. I've crossed an ocean to see Thom Yorke and company perform on the lawn of an Irish castle. With my mom. My undergraduate AND graduate thesis talk about them and their distribution models. But what to say about them in this moment? I'm a bit stuck for words, and I've been putting off a review of this latest album. Steam Co. friend Andrew Flanagan wrote a mocking-ish review of reviews you should [...]

So this guy I know directed, filmed and produced a music video, for what is sure to the greatest local Seattle act of 2011. And it's pretty awesome. They premiered the video at the High Dive last Thursday before they played a stand up show. Take a look at the video below. xoxo, alyssa ps: above photo from the Comet, not the High Dive. but it is Lemolo.

Oh weird you guys, James Franco totally met all of my standards and is going to be my boyfriend. Here's a letter I just wrote to him for this week's STANDARD . THE STANDARD MEETER AND HIS FRIEND, BEAR. Dear James Franco, I guess you can be my boyfriend. I know you've been pursuing me for a while, and I've been a little hesitant because of the whole "being famous" thing. I know. I know. You're just [...]

TRANSLATON : WE'RE IN FRANCE, BITCHES. This week, the Steam Co.'s friend Sam is visiting another Steam Co. friend, Pete, in Brest, France. Holla! They need some kickin' tunes to get them through the weekend. Boys, salut! "Pomegranaates - Between Two Dreams" "Alfa Rococo - Chasser le malheur" "Sufjan Stevens - He Woke Me Up Again" "Cults - Go Outside" "The Promise Ring [...]
First of all, don't get me wrong. Radiohead is our benevolent royalty in the world of amazing rock music. Everyone in music wants their following, wishes they could write like them, and wishes they could use their marketing plan. And I, like everyone else love and respect them for all of those reasons. That being said, the new video for "Lotus Flower" (btw Katie might have a King of Limbs review headed your way soon,) is a little silly. Thom Yorke, dancer extraordinaire, grooves what he's got to the rhythm he's created. But the thing [...]

Sometimes its TGIF, and other times it's thank fucking god. It's finally Friday, the respite from whatever hell we've dealt with since Monday. Chris, our by request requester this week, is totally fed up with his week, so here is to Friday: the time when we get take off the work clothes, put on our party pants, and have a fucking drink. "Generationals - Trust" "Cut Copy - Take Me Over" "Kym Mazelle - Young Hearts" "Marina & The Diamonds - [...]

This sleepy, lovely, mellow, calm-inducing track found my internets and climbed my playlist. Though I don't know a lot yet about Chloe Makes Music, or it's contributor, Christopher Chu - if her album ends up being this good, it will surely be a winner. Take a listen to the track below. "Chloe Makes Music feat. Christopher Chu - The Duel" xoxo, alyssa

(AP Photo/Stephen Chernin) Betsey Johnson is always a little wild, always a little out there - and for girls that dress up their style with a little big of funk - chances are, whether it's a Johnson label or - their clothing has deemed some inspiration from her out-there creations. NYLON-TV posted this video from the Betsey Johnson show - check it out below, just make it through the awkward conversation about the "Nylon Girl" (which I would say I am, except I think Nylon targets 14-year-olds) and watch snippets of Johnson's Valentine's Day [...]

The new song from Foster the People has me really excited. It's the first song of 2011 that I want to listen to on repeat. It's off the band's first, self-titled EP - with hopefully a full-length on the way soon. Best yet, they recently released an accompanying video which is equally as carefree. Enjoy both below. "Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks" xoxo, alyssa

James Blake has been popping up all over the place - and there is a reason, apparently the dude is fucking awesome. Cheers James Blake and your awesomeness! Recently, he covered the Joni Mitchell tune, "A Case Of You" and it's awesomeness was out of control. It's time for you to take a listen, and then check out the amazing original. "James Blake - A Case Of You (Joni Mitchell cover)" "Joni Mitchell - A Case Of You" xoxo, alyssa
