Lucky for me, Australian quartet Architecture in Helsinki have exactly the type of music I'm looking for in their upcoming release Moment Bends . It's been 4 years since their previous LP Places Like This [...]

Meet me here at 7AM. For all of you folks living under various rocks, it should be known that tomorrow, April 16th, is RECORD STORE DAY ! As a vinyl junkie, this is essentially my second Christmas. So go get some rarities, spend time in your local record stores, and SUPPORT your favorite musicians. For a breakdown on [...]

Angry East Coast [...]

(Right Click + "Save Link As" = Download) Cass McCombs - "County Line" Cass McCombs - "The Lonely Doll" While I consider most of Cass McCombs catalog sleepy material, I do have to admit, there is a certain appeal to his particular brand of darkness. Since appearing on the radar in 2002, Cass' musical styles have shifted dramatically from year to year, but his predominantly dark overtone mood has remained throughout. Even in the cheeriest moments of his 2009 release Catacombs , [...]

I can count the amount of Noah Lennox songs I truly embrace on 1 hand. So, needless to say, I was not losing sleep over this upcoming release. To build [...]
Of ALLLLL of the SXSW coverage / photos / videos from last month's festival, this live performance by Claire Boucher, whose better known as Grimes , has really stuck with me. While the vocals are hauntingly bare in the beginning of this performance, the ethereal soundscapes backed by an unshakeable synth line makes this a clear winner. Claire's high pitched vocals and experimental mic techniques lead me to believe that this much buzz will create more to come from Grimes in 2011 . Special thanks to Gorilla vs. Bear and [...]

When I was seventeen, my sister gave me an album by the entitled, I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning by a band with a cheesy “emo” sounding name. Ever since, I have been what some may call a “super fan” of Bright Eyes . I was instantly hooked. It was unlike anything that I had ever heard. I was entangled by the raw music, poetic lyrics, and imperfect quivering voice of front man, Conor Oberst. The band consists of three members, Conor Oberst , Mike Mogis, and Nate Walcott with other members cycling through. [...]

(Right Click + "Save Link As" = Download) The Strokes - "Machu Picchu" The Strokes - "Games" The Strokes - "Gratisfaction" The Strokes - "Life Is Simple In The Moonlight" As previously reported , I am a big fan of The Strokes. There has been so much good press surrounding The Rural Alberta Advantage's sophomore release Departing ( via Saddle Creek records ) that I immediately knew I was missing out on something. One listen to Nils Edenloff's shrill vocals confirms that I must have been brain-dead at some point in 2008, when RAA released Hometowns . After seeing P4k's seal of approval , I was dumbfounded that I hadn't heard of this trio sooner. It reminded me of The Builders And The Butchers or Modest Mouse , but what put RAA at an entirely different level [...]
1,2,3 Green Screening "Confetti" Green Screening - 1,2,3 from Drew Norton on Vimeo . I feel like I seriously misunderstood the true nature of Pittsburgh duo 1,2,3. Since posting their phenomenal single "Ride Coach" , I really dug into every song I could find from these guys and as a result, couldn't be more excited for their full-length release. Check out the Green Screening session above. Lead singer, Nic Snyder is amazingly cloned in what appears to be an apocalyptic waste [...]
