Another week, another great B-Town act to introduce to you guys in CAVES . Their recent single “Sleep” perfectly combine a shoegaze aesthetic with a 90’s alt-rock leaning attitude. A hazy engagement that gives us angst-ridden kids something to dream about. Don’t excuse these guys as lazy blokes though, as there is some serious talent on display here. Unlike most other Birmingham acts, we actually have decidedly manly vocals for once. This band share the same sentiments as myself when it comes to to beaches. Fuck them.

While there has been countless remixes for the excellent Phoenix single “Entertainment”, the one to catch our attention is this brand new one from Dirty Projectors . Taking the original into a quirky, hand clap-filled escape, this is an overwhelming piece of glitchy masterclass. Bankrupt! is out now.

Arguably one of the most underrated and under appreciated lyricists out there, Los has put out quality mixtape time and time again during his roller coaster career. Today he dropped the much anticipated Becoming King with guests like Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa, Ludacris, and the boss himself, P.Diddy. Check out the song “Disappointed” featuring Diddy and Ludacris, and follow the links below to stream/download Becoming King . Download Mixtape | Free Mixtapes Powered by DatPiff.com

Anytime Neon Gold posts about a new act, we immediately take note and love, as their our 100 percent go-to tastemakers, always. Here, they discovered another winner in NYC’s ASTR . Their new single “Operate” features stark hip-hop and R&B influences that help shape this infectious synth-pop gem into a unique blend. The sensual female vocals make you almost wish you were a due a trip to the emergency room. It’s a soaring piece that will not only destroy your speakers in the best way, but will give you a whole new meaning of [...]

LA’s Northern Youth first caught my attention with the fantastic grandiose build of debut double single “Los Angeles”/”Islands” and now after being holed up in a cabin in Norther Arizona for months, Luke Messimer is finally ready to release his debut record. Our first taste comes in the form of the positively uplifting Hide You Away”. No other folk-based artist in the world can give you this musical medicine that will make you feel all too mighty and proud. Always one to use his electronic elements in slight proportions, he again excels at making something so melodic and infectious [...]

The Great Gatsby soundtrack is shaping up to be one of the best of the year, as wonderful new song after new song has seemingly appeared every day this week. After all the grandiose that Florence + the Machine and Lana Del Rey provided, it’s nice to hear something on the complete other end of the spectrum with The xx contributing new song “Together”. Keeping true to their sound, this is an extremely moody piece of downtrodden pop that hits all of the emotional highs. I was not surprised at all when I heard a gallop of strings arrive, symbolically letting me that [...]

Between appearing at every festival and late night show on this planet, the songstress of the moment Jessie Ware has somehow found time to cover the Prince-penned Martika single “Love Thy Will Be Done”. Staying fairly faithful to the original, Ware uses her gorgeous pipes to sound like an angel over the airy production that builds up it’s emotional power in a big way. The debut album Devotion is out now.

Up and coming London R&B crooner Azekel just put out his smooth new single “No Ordinary Love”. Using a subtle, bass-laden beat, the man opens up in the most blunt of fashions about the struggling relationship between father and son. With a powerful sample to boot, this sultry tale is heartbreaking and calming at the same time. The pure talent from this man is just unbelievable. Listen and download below.
We now get to feast our eyes on the video for Strangers ’ fantastic new single “Something New”. I would suggest finding some 3D glasses to throw on to enhance your viewing of the beautiful choreography at work. The single will be out May 13th on the newly formed label Just Off Pop.

Located just outside of Toronto are the fine folks of electronic-pop trio RLMDL . Their recent single “Local Celebrity” shows off the electronic ambient beauty of this Canadian group, with a stray guitar making things quite eerie. The hushed vocals keep things intimate among the pacing backbeat as the proceedings become more lush by the second. Stream and download below.
Making a video for every song on your album is always the ambitious project, but Hamilton’s The Rest have handled it wonderfully so far for the great SEESAW. Next up is this new clip for the record’s opening track “Who Knows”. We are faced a with a medical mystery, as a man’s brainwaves move accordingly to the sound of a single riff being played. It’s an intruging concept that has an array of doctors clueless on how to solve such an odd occurrence. As this man grows more frustrated by the minute, he knows he [...]

Orlando’s finest Saskatchwan has debuted their 2nd single off their upcoming record Occasion, the positively joyous “Youth Ministry”. Originally a demo back in early ‘12, this 80’s leaning synth-pop tale evokes the brightest of feelings. Compared to the dreamy atmosphere of first single “Possession”, we are loving the ethereal waves from this even more. Occasion will be out April 30th on Father/Daughter Records.

The only and best 12 person act we know, Brisbane’s Velociraptor present their incredibly fun new single “Walk On By”. This a garage-pop throwback that is as huge and infectious as it’s supposed to be. Can’t imagine how much fun this must be to be heard/played live. Their self-titled cassette EP will be out May 20th on Heart Throb Records.

SWIM DEEP continue to push their sound on a mellow psych-leaning path on the “She Changes the Weather” b-side “Simmer”. It’s melodic to a tee and will have you swaying side to side in no time, as thoughts of flowing waves slowly creep in to your head. While less romantic than it’s predecessor, it’s still perfectly good baby making music.

The Canadian boy wonder himself, Ryan Hemsworth has single-handedly made the Backstreet Boys cool again by remixing ultra-hit “Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely”. The glitchy take even gets to shout out The Amanda Show several times. I predict some inappropriate tweets from Ms. Bynes coming in the near future. Download the track here . Via

After a long absence, MGMT finally returned this past weekend on Record Store Day with their new single “Alien Days”. While there will always be people clamoring for a return to their glory electro-pop days of “Electric Feel” and “Kids”, I for one am glad the band continues to grow towards a spacey-psychedelic frontier that remains extremely risky, but will always prove intriguing to the ears. Unlike most of 2010’s Congratulations , this actually feels warm and inviting, and it’s a trip to Mars that I would gladly volunteer for again and again.

With Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby set to be the most glossy-looking film of the last decade, it was only appropriate that the Queen of melodrama, Lana Del Rey was present on the soundtrack. “Young & Beautiful” sounds almost as an eerie sequel to the song that made her a star “Video Games”. I think even any of her many haters out there can understand how perfect this will work for the film. This is the first single from the soundtrack, due out May 6th.
Kate Nash gets her girl power on in the new clip for the blunt titled “Free My Pussy”. Even though she hates on guys a lot, I’ll have one of my first musical crushes dear to my heart. Even when she is meowing for a good 30 seconds, I can’t help but be swayed along to this swooning journey. The brand new track debuted this weekend on Record Store Day. Stay tuned for another video for Girl Talk track “OMYGOD!” later this week.

Some grueling surf-rock coming at us from The Wytches ’ new track “Beehive Queen”. Clearly made in a land of fucked up dreams, this out of control ferocity is just the type of music to keep us always on the edge of your seat. Whoever is the supposed beach monster, I warn you to stay very far away. The single will be out June 3rd via Hate Hate Hate Records.
Sweden and indie-pop will always be synonymous with each other, and the country’s latest export MAASAI prove this point to a tee. The debut single from Dominque Teymori and Zackarias Ekelund entitled “Memories” uses slight tribal percussion to draw us into a mysterious winter wonderland that we never want to leave. The infectious nature of the song will have you forget it’s actually quite depressing. Next time you experience heartbreak, I suggest you enter a Nordic natural masterpiece to help free your soul.
