Evian Christ – ‘Fuck It None Of Y’all Don’t Rap’

Evian Christ – ‘Fuck It None Of Y’all Don’t Rap’ Here's a nugget of satisfyingly grammatically incorrect, bass-laden rap goodness for you of a Friday afternoon.  The oh-so-elusive Evian Christ retains an air of mystery through their teasing anonymity, subsequently (and somewhat predictably) driving music taste makers into a competitive guessing game of sorts. Whomever Evian Christ is he/she has been producing some tunes! Have an ear gander here:

FREE DOWNLOAD: Grimes – ‘Genesis’ To celebrate her recent signing to 4AD, and ahead of her forthcoming album release on the 12th March, Claire 'Grimes' Boucher is giving away this excellent MP3 taster track 'Genesis' - think of it as a belated Christmas gift! A poignant piece of lo-fi singed, ethereal synth-pop, intertwined with the breathy, abstract vocals that make Grimes' sound so undeniably distinct.   Mixing innovative production and retro nuances, the Montreal native is realigning the boundaries of electronic pop music and stamping it with her trademark off-kilter idiosyncrasy's. Woman’s Hour – ‘Human’

Woman’s Hour – ‘Human’ This Kendal bred, London based four-piece produce transfixing soundscapes that combine haunting vocals with drawn out guitars and scratchy synths.  Their music is prevalent with influences taken from the last decade of indie and yet manages to avoid falling into the imitation trap. ‘Human' is a minimalist and progressive track, stripped back to allow for the teasing vocals of lead singer Fiona Burgess to take the lead.  Easily the stand out track of their double release (the other track 'Jenni' is to be released with 'Human' on the 5th December), 'Human' is a fine example of Woman's Hour's [...]

Tashaki Miyaki – ‘Tashaki Miyaki’ EP

Tashaki Miyaki – ‘Tashaki Miyaki’ EP Californian duo Tashaki Miyaki released their debut 4 track EP on the 31st October of this year. Following the release of a couple of covers, including their brilliantly shadowy version of the Everly Brother's "All I Have to do is Dream", the male-female pairing have released this eerie surf-pop collection of tracks through label The Sounds Of Sweet Nothing. Stand out track ‘Somethin’ Better Than Nothin’ is a stoically forlorn effort, combining wailing reverberations with 60s influenced melodies. Have a listen here...

Sulk – ‘Wishes’

Sulk – ‘Wishes’ So the Stone Roses have announced a set of reunion gigs , at the very same park that Oasis played their rather uninspiring reunion gig a couple of years back.  Yes, I have bought my tickets and yes I do share that sinking feeling that they will be good-and-I'm-glad-I-saw-them-b ecause-they're-legends-but-rea lly-they-were-never-going-to-b e-as-good-as-they-were-so-it-w as-a-bit-of-a-let-down. However, I digress.  The point of this rambling intro is to highlight an apparent resurgence in the Baggy genre. The announcement of the Stone Roses reunion appears to be the pinnacle of the movement, riding on the wave of a Baggy revival, supported by an array of bands taking [...]

Monarchy (ft. Britt Love) – You Don’t Want to Dance With Me (Dusk Remix) FREE DOWNLOAD We haven't gifted you with a freebie in a while and felt guilty...so here you are my lovelies! This is the relatively unknown Dusk 's take on Monarchy 's "You Don’t Want To Dance With Me’.  A powerful remix of the original, Dusk has incorporated low synths and tribal influenced drums with a bit of glitchy effects added in for good measure to create a moody dancefloor version of the original.

Real Estate – ‘Green Aisles’

Real Estate – ‘Green Aisles’ Now the giddy summer months have finally departed ‘Green Aisles’ by Real Estate seems the perfect soundtrack to calmer Autumnal times. This track from their forthcoming second album ‘Days’ has the band delivering 5 minutes of sublime dream-pop for the listener to languidly drift through. There is much to contemplate on this track, and  none of it taxing. It’s all too easy to immerse yourself as spindly guitars interplay harmoniously and soft vocal melodies echo together to give this cut an ever so slightly Stone Roses-esque quality. This will be sure to send a few pangs of nostalgia [...]

Alt-J Δ – ‘Tessellate’

Alt-J Δ – ‘Tessellate’ Despite the appallingly pretentious name (come on guys) this track is sterling. An inventive mash of bluesy vocals and incongruous melodies, Tessellate reverberates eccentrically through its 3minutes and 18seconds.  A stuttering beat is laid across a simplified backing of atmospheric tension, whilst ambiguous lyrics litter the track effervescently. A layered masterpiece that loops and flays with a determination that sounds simultaneously buoyant yet nonchalant. Check it.

The Subways – ‘Money & Celebrity’

The Subways – ‘Money & Celebrity’ Cult band The Subways have returned with another edition of their pop/punk inspired music with third album Money & Celebrities , which will be hitting stores next month. Although, it seems that this is not the same Subways the fans fell in love with. Yes, the line-up is the same and producer Stephen Street has worked on some of the best UK records known to man (The Smiths, Blur & The Cranberries), but there seems something amiss with this one. For one, it lacks the passion and energy the previous two [...]

Replicas – ‘The City’

Replicas – ‘The City’ A newborn of a band, Replicas have steadily built a sturdy underground fan base since their inception at the end of 2010. The partnership of vocalist/guitarist Helena Gee and vocalist/guitarist/keys player Ashiya Eastwood has resulted in an amalgamation of icy, melodic, pop music, with a grungy edge and provocative tendencies. 'The City' is part of a three track 73 vinyl EP produced by Tim Burgess, with a release date of the 26th September.  Other tracks 'Hearts Beat' and 'You Disappear' follow a similarly glacially toned aesthetic. Have a listen for yourself or check out [...]

S.C.U.M – ‘Whitechapel’

S.C.U.M – ‘Whitechapel’ Here we have the upcoming single from London art-rock quintet S.C.U.M , set to be released on September 26.  S.C.U.M have been knocking about for a couple of years now without releasing anything of real significance, but after hearing this that could well be about to change. ‘Whitechapel’ is a absolute behemoth of a tune, and after having it playing on repeat for the last week and a half  this expansive slice of gothic disco really does set a new precedent for anyone aspiring to make engaging and danceable post-punk music. It’s tough to pick a [...]

Age of Consent – ‘The Beach’ FREE DOWNLOAD

Age of Consent - The Beach
Age of Consent are releasing debut single “ The Beach ” on the September 5th. Produced by Luke Smith (who can boast Depeche Mode, Foals and Crystal Fighters in his credit roll) the song is a dark electro-pop number. Creepy is one word that could be used to sum it up and the track is a clear departure from their Shitdisco days. That's not to say it's a bad effort, on the contrary it's an addictive track, the sort that requires [...]

Viva Brother – ‘Famous First Words’

Viva Brother – ‘Famous First Words’ Music journalist Dean Woodhouse is the newest contributor to This Town is Folly.  Piping out his own brand of observational witticisms, Dean will be unleashing his on-point album reviews upon TTIF readers... Viva Brother’s debut 'Famous First Words' aren’t as famous as first thought. What can I say about Viva Brother? A lot has been talked about of the Slough four-piece. They were signed to Geffen Records on the back of only a handful of performances in shoddy clubs and bars [...]

Beach Fossils – ‘Adversity’

Beach Fossils – ‘Adversity’ The surreal and dreamy Beach Fossils have collaborated with Urban Outfitters to create a pretty fly video to accompany track 'Adversity', released from their latest E 'What a Pleasure'. Visually splendid, the video is aesthetically awe-inspiring, which is just as well considering the track itself is like a love letter to the ears.

T H E S L O W D O W N – ‘Sex’

T H E S L O W D O W N – ‘Sex’ This is T H E S L O W D O W N 's second single, following debut 'Ghosts' (released under their former name 'B I G S L E E P', which unfortunately for them was already taken by another band in the US.)  Follow up single 'Sex' is a catchy piece of indie-rock, the type that makes you repeat the chorus in your head for an age after listening to it. An anthem of a track, full of distorted guitars and perfect vocals - it's making me incredibly excited for the release of their forthcoming EP. [...]

Yoyo Eskimo – ‘Into the Night’

Yoyo Eskimo are an instantly likeable up-and-coming indietronic band emanating from Brixton, South London. This Town is Folly first reported on the four-piece in March and now the boys are pushing their debut single 'Into the Night'. An irresistibly catchy piece of indie-pop, with an insatiable beat and the catchiest hook I've heard this year, 'Into the Night' is a banger of a tune.  Described by the band as a messy street party of a track, full of driving bass and stark synth riffs, this single is reason enough to keep an eye on what is likely [...]

Love Inks – ‘Too Wild’

Love Inks – ‘Too Wild’ One listen of Love Inks and I was smitten.  A wave of lady love overcame me as vocalist Sherry LeBlanc's etheral tones wash over me, shame then that she's married to band mate and bassist Kevin Dehan. Together with guitarist Adam Linnell the trio make minimalist music with a lo-fi aesthetic. Too Wild is a spidery love letter of a track and the new video that accompanies it is a retro mash-up of black and white footage featuring fighting cats and taxi riding deer...

Xuuki – ‘Falling Through Trees’

Xuuki – ‘Falling Through Trees’ Hailing from Buckinghamshire is this (so far) under the radar band Xuuki with 'Falling Through Trees'. Immersive and simply beautiful, 'Falling Through Trees' combines waves of vocal beauty and intricate guitar lines to create an epic sound that feels as though it is a suspension of consciousness.

Get People – ‘Away’

Get People – ‘Away’ The new Get People EP 'Rain Tears' drops on 11th June and as a warm up to the release the trio have released this trippy video for preview track 'Away'. Described as tribal-infused dance pop, the London based threesome have created remixes for the likes of Is Tropical and Mystery Jets and toured with pedigree acts such as Metronomy and Crystal Fighters.
