( email | facebook | twitter ) The down under continues its ascension with this brief, bookish , catching, and upbeat track named "Home," of all things, by a band named "Set Sail," of all things. Taken from their almost-done-cooking The Riley Moore EP , it's what nearly any quarter of the music world would classify this as a happy thing. Stream here, download at the Bandcamp : Home by Set Sail

Don't get your hopes up on Record Store Day for this Radiohead 123 because it is not being released in the States until June 14th. In the meantime, stream the pretty predictable tracks below. The quality of these two are better than some of the others that have been released. Radiohead - The Butcher Radiohead - Supercollider
( email | facebook | twitter ) Strings. Indie. Americana. Oklahomana (in the form of Flaming Lips cover). Country. Folk. Out-of-tune singing (as well as the more in-tune variety). Musical saws. Langour. Uptempo. Two-drink minimums. "Darkness." Don't think we've got our brains around it, yet. We don't. What's that? She toured with The Eels and Spiritualized, you say? We still don't. This is Princess Pangolin. Princess Pangolin by Princess [...]

I don't tend to spend much energy on EP's for some reason. But if you don't take the 15 minutes to listen to Mammal Club's The Au EP then you are doing yourself a great disservice. This Newcastle England group is easily the most unique act I've heard in a quite some time. Just try and guess how the song progression will unfold. Go on, I dare you. In my opinion, spontaneity is a crucial part of writing a great song. If I can guess what note is going to come next then you haven't done your job [...]

After the sneak preview of The Antlers' new album Burst Apart at SXSW "Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out" came across as a track that was going to be a highlight from the album. My initial impression was correct. It's an atypical track for The Antlers, the tempo is a little more upbeat (a tempo that would be extremely slow for any other band) and for the most part Peter Silberman keeps his falsetto voice at bay. You can also listen to "Parenthesis" here as well. The [...]

Scala & Kolacny Brothers takes classic favorites, rearranges the songs, then adds a female choirs' touch and accompaniment by usually a piano. Their popularity soared with their deconstruction of Radiohead's Creep for The Social Network soundtrack. Their newest self-titled album (March 15, 2011) covers every spectrum with covers of Metallica, Alanis Morisette, U2 and Nirvana. Watch S&KB's somewhat disturbing new video interpretation for the Kings of Leon song "Use Somebody." Without giving the ending away, it is hard to say what you or your spouse would and would not do in certain circumstances if diagnosed with a debilitating disease. [...]

"This Is Why We Fight" is my personal favorite from The Decemberists' new album The King Is Dead . It reminds me of past times before everyone knew who the band was and made it trendy to say you followed Colin Meloy on twitter. The Portlanders have teamed up with director Aaron Stewart-Ahn again, he's the same director that they used to direct the videos for "16 Military Wives" and "O Valencia". The story telling is just as poignant in this video where Lord Of The Flies meets Steel Dawn [...]
( email | facebook | twitter ) In December 2010, Francois Peglau predicted The Imminent Failure of Francois Peglau . We disagreed . Four months on, he has yet to fail. Indeed, he's released a video for his other prediction, "We Know We Won't Make It." Advantage, Muse. We still don't love the poppy synth prologue, but that's why we're journos instead of record producers. Otherwise the track is an ideal Peglau primer: infectious, touching, tongue-in-cheek. The film's nods here and there to recent Eastern European [...]

Late last year we were treated to a demo of the track "For 123 from the, at that point, yet to be titled new album from Other Lives. The album now has a title, a release date and a few tracks for your streaming pleasure. A follow up to 20092s self-titled album will be a tall order to fill, that album found itself comfortably on my top ten list for the year. That leaves some high expectations on this Stillwater, OK group. So as to try and not fall into obscurity, the band took a lengthy 14 [...]

Esmerine is a duo constructed by Bruce Cawdrom (Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and Beckie Foon (Thee Silver Mt. Zion). The group is now returning as a four-member ensemble after their six year album hiatus. Their forthcoming album, La Lechuza, is set to be released June 7. La Lechuza is "dedicated to the late Lhasa de Sela, a close friend and collaborator of all four members of the group, and features an unreleased version of her song "Fish on Land," recorded with Beckie and Bruce during sessions for Lhasa's final album." Lhasa de Sela was an internationally-renowned Montreal-based [...]

Lost in The Trees released two videos today. The first is the title track from the band's 2010 release Alone In An Empty House while "If You're Afraid Of The Dark" is actually from there 2007 release Time Taunts Me . "All Alone In An Empty House" is a troubling track with some disturbing imagery. Frontman Ari Picker Doesn't shy away from the fact that his upbringing was less than ideal. His house was filled with abuse and discord which ultimately led to the demise of his family. Somehow though Picker has written a song [...]

( email | facebook | twitter ) It is Muse in Music editorial board policy that Kickstarter.com campaigns are freakin' awesome. Bands get paid for their studio time in advance, instead of betting on the come. Depending on the pledge structure, they sell their T-shirts in advance, or their vinyl copies. Sometimes, depending on what the grand prize is, they may even get stalked in advance. TMIM newbies Thunder Power recently wrote in about their own [...]

( email | facebook | twitter ) Her Red7 performance during SXSW 2011 was a bit of a letdown, until you realize that Merrill Garbus is a performer you should hear before you see. The close quarters, the heat, and the smell of nicotine lagermusk made for a forced and painful march through her indie wails and precocious arrangements. A four-hour drive and a crowd worthy of Mardis Gras can even make the wafting scent of burning THC disagreeable. [...]

Imogen Heap is known for her revolutionary marketing strategy that capitalizes the use of technology to create intimate relationships with her fans. In composing her last album Ellipse (2009) , she kept a YouTube video diary that showcased the evolution of the album with commentary, samples, and raw footage of the recording process. Her newest album will reveal itself in single tracks that will be written over the next three years with one song being released every three months. On Heap's website, her admirers can ask direct questions that she will answer "when I get a [...]

Danish-born Agnes Obel released her vulnerable album Philharmonics at the end of last year in the UK and U.S. via the internet. The CD version of the album will be available in the states this Tuesday, April 12. Her teenage musical influences include Portishead and Elliott Smith. Here is a live performance at Studio Brussel from about a week ago of her song "Riverside." Agnes Obel - Brother Sparrow

( email | facebook | twitter ) The last time we checked in with the Meligrove machine , it was to perpetuate a benevolent prank: the mock-fan vid to "Really Want It." Probably (?) fictitious Melidude_85 really wanted it : the Meligrove lunch box, the set list from the Mod Club show, the Meligrove 4-in-1 disinfectant. The his-and-hers pillowcases. The Jason Nunes replica frames. We're pretty sure this one is an actual fan video, although we're - understandably - a bit too gun shy to say so. [...]

Soffie Viemose is a Danish electronica singer/songwriter who composes her music alone on her laptop. She grew up in the town of Roskilde, famous for its annual music festival and viking ship museum. She and her family took vacations as a child to Canada: "This experience has definitely shaped me as a person. I was both secluded yet extremely close to my family. It was just us moving through those incredible landscapes. Maybe my taste for melancholia and pure sounds kind of stems from there." With her dismal lyrics now in her back pocket, she attended Berklee College of Music [...]

VBS released a video taped in Calgary, Canada that toured Chad VanGaalen's basement-studio-previous slaughter house. The studio is jam packed with VanGaalen's make-shift instruments involving even Lego pieces. VanGaalen also performs a live rendition of the song, "Sara," off his May 17 release, Diaper Island. Watch the VBS video here . Another little spiffy extra, VanGaalen released Your Tan Looks Supernatural EP a few days ago exclusively available on Bandcamp as a response to the crisis in Japan. The EP is composed of outtakes from his upcoming album and 100% of the proceeds will be [...]

Marvelous Toy is a unique ensemble, they're basically what would happen if Sunset Rubdown/Wolf Parade frontman Spencer Krug listened to too much Billy Joel. Pounding piano lines are front and center with various percussion and orchestral accompaniment helping round out the sound. The band is fresh off the release of their newest EP titled Moving . This 5-track album is chuck full of joyous and up beat tracks that will bring a smile to your day no matter how bad it's been. Songs are inviting in a familiar way but at the same like nothing that you've [...]
