Edwarde Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros gained quite a following after the release of their 2009 LP, Up From Below , which featured the hit some "Home" . What hasn't gotten quite as much attention is their ambitious 12-part video series titled SALVO! There were two videos released already and a third was just announced. The first two are for the tracks "Desert Song" and "Kisses Over Babylon" . So far we've seen Edwarde Sharpe (Alex Ebert) wandering aimlessly through a desolate wasteland, kill his father, immediate fall into a drug trip, get [...]

Fredrik will soon release their third full-length album, Flora , on April 12. "Rites of Spring" is the first sample of what's to come from Flora . The album quickly follows their full-length release, Trilogi (Feb. 2010) , and their 3-song EP, Origami (Nov. 2010). The album was recorded in their garden studio last summer. " Flora marks a departure from the wintry moods of the band’s first two outings as according to Fredrik, flower season is anything but limonades and hammocks. The music paints a vision of summer as the darkness [...]

With each song that surfaces from Austra's upcoming debut album, Feel It Break (May 17), the mystery and anticipation for the release elevates. The Toronto trio is led by singer and co-founder, Katie Stelmanis. Stelmanis' operatic upbringing started at the mere age of 10. While simultaneously learning viola and piano, Stelmanis studied opera for four years. Much like Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) who received a BA in Opera at the University of North Texas and Sierra Casady ("Rosie" from CocoRosie) who studied opera at the Conservatoire de Paris, Stelmanis had plans to study opera at a collegiate [...]

( email | facebook ) The days are getting longer. No more driving home in the dark, or sleeping through dinner. The sun sits low on the horizon, striking our evening commutes at odd angles, and filling the sky not with heat, but light. The trees are still bare, but spring is arrived. Gone, for a few months at least, is the apocalyptic winter music that powered us through the cold. Possibly the first, true spring track of the year - measured literally and [...]

Hopefully you're listening by now, and not reading. The most recent studies from the sniffiest universities have shown that reading reduces vitamin C absorption and causes bedsores. Instead, try Drag Lake Sin by Slowwave. (Even the title reads as some vague and depraved threat.) Drag Lake San drifts between the emotional and image invoking tendencies of Bon Iver and the more mainstream arena rock usually associated with an act like Coldplay. In that I'm saying that Slowwave may just be able to breach the dark and treacherous chasm [...]

Alright! A fast-paced tune that once again showcases Meric Long's fingerpicking dexterity. Neko Case donates her chops on The Dodos upcoming album, No Color (March 15). "Don't Stop" is praised as Case's favorite song on the upcoming album, although her vocals are obsolete. The band has a multitude of gigs coming up in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. If you are so lucky, you can also feast your eyes on The Dodos at SXSW this year. The Dodos - Dont Stop
You typically won't find LCD Soundsystem blasting through my stereo speakers. I've just never really found a great deal of enjoyment in the band. But if you put Muppets in your video I'll stand up and take notice. Kermit made his debut performance in an unofficial LCD Soundsystem track a few years ago in the Simon Owens directed video for

Iceland's Sin Fang will soon release his second full-length solo album, Summer Echoes (March 15) that includes the songs below, "Two Boys" and "Because of the Blood." Foxwarren are a relatively new band based out of the tid-bit-nipply, Regina, Saskatchewan. The guys are group of four best friends who decided to make music. Take We Were Promised Jet Packs , add a liberal use of effect pedals and a healthy dose of experimentation and you'll come out with Penguins Kill Polar Bears. The UK band are just about to release their second EP titled Vessels & Veins on Dromedary Records, a mere 9 months after they released their debut EP, Dawn in June of last year. Vessels & Veins is a complete effort from the band. I haven't heard Dawn so I have nothing to compare their progress to but there's [...]

Fortunately there won't be just one lucky [...]
( email | facebook | linkedin ) SX was forged in Kortrijk, Belgium in the spring of 2009. Members are Stefanie Callebaut (vocals, synth), Benjamin Desmet (synth, guitars), and Simon Decraene (drums, percussion). The promotional video to "Black Video" introduces their late-80s siren-call synthpop, sparse instrumentation, lush vocals, and - if we're being candid, here - Callebaut's withering slate-colored stare. Stream below: Their first album is on the boards now. Tide yourself over with a free "Black Video" download - and more music - below. [...]

How much you believe this chart is based solely on how much you trust the RIAA to report what is actually going on out there in the real world. Your conclusions are your own.

( email | facebook ) Cognitive, dissonant spinewrecking from Melbourne. There's not much propaganda (usually a good sign), so let's assume the name has something to do with Starcraft and move along. The current EP is titled Pet Hate (always!). Buy it here . Sample it below. This is "Death of Me," a tasty bathwater of precise noise, lightning-bolt guitars, thunderclap drums, and villainously monotone vocals. [...]

( email | facebook ) We still think that Adam Hurst is the finest brew to come out of Portland since locals referred to the place as The Clearing. Previously out-of-print albums Ruin and Dwelling are available once again, through CD Baby. Sample "Flight" from Ruin and "Entrance" from Dwelling just below. Hurst didn't choose the URL "gypsy cello" for nothing: Now go pour yourself a tall [...]
