The 24-year-old suit-donning LA native Dillon Francis is a beast. I feel like I've been saying that to a lot of people lately, but it's only because I honestly believe it's true. I've seen Dillon Francis blow up over the past year and there's no stopping him. As the most well-known Moombahton producer of today, Dillon Francis is putting out a constant stream of remixes and originals on trend-setting record labels such as Mad Decent, Dim Mak, and OWSLA. Dillon Francis didn't know he was going to be producing Moombahton a few years ago - he was just [...]
Here’s a new track from Danny Brown. It’s much more light-hearted than most of the tracks off of XXX. Brown raps about making it and being successful instead of the usual banter about drug addiction. “Who ever thought I’d be the greatest growing up?” he asks. Production on the song is by Brooklyn beatmaker Party Supplies. Stream it over at SCION AV’s website , or download it for free in exchange for an email address.
When I first heard Tarantula by Pleasurekraft (thank you Philip), I was blown away. It's something about their diverse range of electronic styles, most of which are dark techno house beats, that immediately make you jump out of your seat and move your feet. Song after song and remix after remix, Pleasurekraft doesn't make the same thing twice. I'm forced to tell myself: these guys might be the next great thing in Techno music. Somehow, Pleasurekraft seamlessly mixes different drum patterns together into BANGIN' tracks that rise in energy with every measure. If Progressive House, Minimal House and Tech House [...]
But there's a trapdoor in the sun...immortality... - Eddie Vedder, Pearl jam A beautiful track, Immortality has a place in the hearts of many. Dealing with the concept of suicide, many fans interperit the track to be about Cobain's death. Eddie Vedder, denies this, citing potential exploitation of Cobain's death. Hauntingly and pensive, Immortality's soft lyrics struck me deep. The track opens with "Vacate is the word...vengeance has no place on me or her//Cannot find the comfort in this world". Immortality - Pearl Jam
"Besides Tyler, Earl is the most promising rapper in the whole group," an excited patron at Odd Future's March 20th mixtape release show told his excited friend. He was referencing the fan-appointed head of L.A. rap collaboration Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (usually just Odd Future) Tyler, The Creator and his best friend - and partner in crime - Earl Sweatshirt. There was a smidgen of hope, whether it was the fact that Earl did an interview on New York's Hot 97 or the fact that it was their mixtape release show, that Earl would make his performance [...]
One word comes to mind when I hear Angger Dimas' name: Funk. Maybe the use of the word describing anything outside of the Jazz realm upsets you, but there is no other way to describe the sound this man produces. When looking for more information on this Indonesian EDM producer, I found the most absurd metaphor. His official Bio opens with the description: If Nasi Goreng, the mash up of rice, egg and vegetables is Indonesia’s nation food dish then DJ and producer Angger Dimas represents Indonesia’s national music dish with his mash up of chopped [...]
Enjoy this poppy little banger. Werk Me - Hyper Crush (OVERWERK Remix)
The Crystal Method has been at the vanguard of electronic music since their debut album Vegas, which went platinum and set a precedent for high-quality releases in the following decade, which included: Tweekend, Legion of Bloom, and Divided by Night. We had the pleasure of speaking with Ken Jordan, who represents one half of the duo. The resulting interview is a lesson in EDM history, but also a window into the current scene. What got you interested in electronic music? When and where did you get your start? I worked at a college radio station in [...]
I never thought I would see the day were I was posting Moombah on Metrjolt, but here we are. Diplo and Don Diablo are re-releasing Make You Pop , and the Charlie Darker remix caught my eye. Charlie grated up this track and shows a rougher 112PM side of the original. Enjoy the track, and make sure to show him some love on the interwebs. Facebook | Soundcloud | Twitter

Metrojolt made it to SXSW, the Holy Grail of music experiences, and we had to write home about it. Start up the mix we've created via 8tracks and enjoy vignettes into this year's performances! I first saw the Black Keys about a year and a half ago at a sold out performance at New York’s Terminal 5. Since then, they have exploded into one of the world’s biggest rock bands, going from selling out clubs to selling out arenas. I was dubious as to how their sound would translate into a place as big and loud as Madison Square Garden. Fortunately, the Keys did not disappoint. Let me start with the opening act, a little British band you may have heard of by the name of the Arctic Monkeys. It’s kind of [...]
San Francisco's hardest working duo since Matier & Ross (a joke our more informed readers will find slightly funny), K Theory are at it again with perhaps their most exciting release yet. This time they've unleashed the simple, unstoppable power of a 4 to the floor kick drum on their official remix of Adrian Lux's Alive. The track is out on Ultra Records today. Support the boys by picking up the release on Beatport . By the way, if you hate being cool you might not have heard the banger [...]
Squad Up (Clockwork Vocal Edit) - Clockwork Dario's Thoughts: Clockwork's Squad Up is a really sweet track. It's so sweet, it gives my favorite Clockwork original of all time, Weaver , a run for it's money. The combination of bass, exciting vocals, sweet drum rhythms, and rising synths makes Squad Up a great pump up track and perfect for rallying up the crowd. Squad Up a good example of how far Clockwork has come since his days of amateur production in his bedroom. He's always had amazing production abilities, [...]
The two French techno producers Gesaffelstein and Brodinski have a pretty epic bromance going. They've even released an EP together titled Bromance #1 (not surprising at all) on Brodinski's record label "Bromance" (ahh so many "bro"s). Now, thanks to their epic non-romantic relationship, Brodinski was able to put his own spin on one of my favorite brotastic techno tracks named Viol . Enjoy Brodinski's exciting and sexy take on the simple yet heavy track. Viol (Brodinski Remix) - Gesaffelstein Purchase this remix on Beatport !
Just in the last few hours Mord Fustang has dropped his newest EP on Plasmapool. The EP's sound stays consistent with he previous works. I see this as the third wave of Mord Fustang. While this is based on nothing but my personal interpretation of the releases: I see his earliest stuff being absolutely killer, second wave of songs being good but a bit lackluster, and this newest EP represents a motion back his first wave of tracks. What's critical with any artist's new releases is moving forward, while staying pertinent to [...]
I have shortcomings, but I try to be the first to admit to them and make right. When I saw Pitchfork gave Deerhunter’s album Halcyon Digest a 9.2 a while back, I laughed to myself and thought: “this has got to be some really experimental, weird sounding, and probably horrible music.” But I got the album anyways, and quickly skimmed through the songs. Yes, it was experiment, weird sounding, and- at the time-didn't peak my interest. Error 1. Do not write off a band without listening to at least a few of their songs in their entirety. I [...]
This is for you, beat lovers. And for those who are thinking "I'm not a beat lover," you may find yourself liking the melody heavy instrumentals by L'Orange. This producer, who calls Wilmington North Carolina his home, makes great use of some arcane samples. I imagine he (or she? L'Orange's identity is not all too clear) digs through hundreds of old records to find the pieces he wants to weave together. The result is a audio experience taking us back to past eras. L'Orange's stated influences include DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, Jay Dilla, and DJ Dangermouse and I see bits [...]
My first experience with American Royalty was SnowGlobe 20112s third and final day. No need to rehash that experience here, but I've revisited them and found a hit in 'Levrolution.' They've got obvious electronic influence, but the lightly distorted blusey riff alludes to a rock infusion. Some simple harmonies with repeated lyrics on top rounds out this bouncing track. Enjoy their eclectic album on their bandcamp as well as this track. Levrolution - American Royalty
The production of my favorite album of 2011, Watch the Throne , has been tastefully paired with the lyrical geniuses of two of hip-hop's greatest: Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur. Is it blasphemy? Absolutely not. This is DJ Rob Dinero re-imagining history: I can't begin to fathom how incredible a collaborative album between Tupac and Biggie would have been. Unfortunately, this will be as close as we get. Enjoy my favorites below, and get the whole mixtape here . Murder To Excellence - Watch Over The Throne Otis [...]
After their collaboration with Knife Party , Swedish House Mafia is back with yet another single! Even though it's hard for the three great producers who compose SHM ( Axwell , Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello) to find time to produce together, Greyhound is a well orchestrated and thought-out track. Greyhound was first premiered at Swedish House Mafia's show in Madison Square Garden with a enthusiastic response from the New York crowd. The upbeat and bouncy feeling combined with the progressive house melody will convince you to get up and dance, so there's no doubt that Greyhound [...]
