Hi everybody using the old RSS feed for Subinev.com. I've changed systems and the new feed can be found at http://www.subinev.com/feed/ .
Hey lingering readers of Subinev! I'll be heading down to Austin, Texas for the annual South By Southwest Music Festival next week. If you're going, make sure to check out the two awesome After The Jump Fest events that we've got going on. I'm personally super excited to have Superdrag playing one of our shows (not to mention all the other great acts)! Say hi if you'll be at the festival, I'll be running around taking photos all week! As always, in case you've [...]
Clearly, Subinev has entered a very long state of hibernation. You can find me being much more active in the following places: HillyTown.com : Portland, Maine show listings and music blog. Some food reviews, too! Have Faith In Worthless Knowledge : SPACE Gallery's blog about related events and the arts. I post a lot of concert photos there. Flickr/subinev : My obsessively updated photostream. Concerts, people, places, food, and, of course, cats. [...]
It's record release day for Up The Empire ! Their new ep, Loose Ends , is out today on The Cougar Label . I've been excited about this band for a while now, and one of my favorite things about them was when they launched into a spot-on amazing live cover of Dinosaur Jr.'s "Feel The Pain" at a house party that my band was playing with them last year. As you may know, I am certain that it is the best song ever written. Well, they did a studio version of the track and included it [...]

Don't ask me, buster. I'm keeping busy over at Hillytown for now. More things in the works but nothing new quite yet. The above photo is from election night in Portland, Maine.

Due to the not-so-awesome weather today, we chose to move this afternoon's After The Jump unofficial CMJ show (though yr CMJ badge will get you in free) to our backup location at the Market Hotel . The show goes from 12-7 and includes: Fight Bite High Places The Homosexuals Women Bearsuit Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson Passion Pit Crystal Stilts The Ruby Suns
CMJ is off to a great start! I won't be updating here much, but I will add photos each day, so if you want to try and keep up, head over to my flickr page . After The Jump official showcase is tonight at the Knit!
Too easy, maybe? Jason (of Productshop fame) has put together a pretty stellar lineup for the big Stories In High Fidelity party tonight at Highline Ballroom . Chuck Klosterman, Rob Sheffield, Dan Kennedy, Marc Spitz and more, plus live performances from Jaymay and Rocketship Park! Wowzers. You know how I love stories about music ... I'll be there.

You had to know we had even more After The Jump funtimes in the works for this year's CMJ Marathon. You might even find me flippin' burgers if I get my way! This awesomess is sponsored by Guru Energy Drink . And yes, I am in NYC now. See you running around at shows all week!

See you there! I'm super excited about our official showcase this year, here's the schedule - all the rooms have great lineups, but the Old Office especially is seriously killer with some of NYC's best local acts: Old Office: 8 PM the Beets 8 45 the Lisps 9:30 Inlets 10:30 Motel Motel 11:15 Alina Simone 12:00 the Muggabears Tap: 8 PM Best Friends Forever 8 45 PM the Depreciation Guild [...]
At this point it is hard to recall a time before o'death were a band I listened to on a regular basis, and who I recommended to anybody willing to listen to my musical suggestions. Well into their career and showing no signs of stopping, NYC's country punks have an incredible new album on the horizon, Broken Hymns, Limbs and Skin (out October 28 on Kemado) and a tour kicking off later this month. RCRD LBL has the mp3 for " Lowtide ." Check out the dates (dudes, where's Portland, ME on there?) below: [...]

Though I've never been a huge fan of Bruce Springsteen (something about growing up in Jersey and having it crammed in my earholes all the time) in recent years I've come to appreciate his music (thanks, Jared). This weekend was the Boss's birthday, and as it turns out there's an annual Bruce Fest right here in Portland, where local musicians come together to celebrate his music through their own interpretations. The event took place at the disco-tastic Bubba's Sulky Lounge (light-up dancefloor in full effect!) on Saturday, September 27th. I wasn't there [...]
In preparation for my trip back down to NYC last week, I put together a "Portland Primer" to introduce some of my friends to the jams that are currently being crammed in my earholes thanks to my new northern locale. If you'd like to be mailed a copy (it's a mix cd, not a playlist, we're kicking it old school these days) please let me know and I will send you one. Here's a quick overview (which mostly relates to the mix) with some quick and easy comparisons, for convenience. The Rattlesnakes - riyl [...]
It's been a while since I've seen them but in recent years Dirty On Purpose really came into their own, blowing away even the high expectations laid out for them in their earlier days. They're heading out on a tour this week with the Wedding Present and the New Year (ex-Bedhead). The tour includes a stop up north for Pop Montreal, which I keep pretending that I'm going to attend. Dates! Tour Dates w/ The Wedding Present September 29 @ Turf Club (St. Paul, Minnesota) September 30 @ High [...]

I wish I could be there, this should be really fun. Despite rumors, I do not actually live in Canada now. Close, but not quite. That weekend is actually a busy one here in Portland, Maine, with Dark Meat blowing through town with their confetti-sprinkled-psych-strav aganza at SPACE and then a couple days of good times with Tod's photos and the Japanther/Matt & Kim show. Yowzers!
Let's be brief. The move went well, but things have been busy and complicated since then. All-in-all I've been enjoying Portland and other parts of Maine that I've ventured to recently. To answer the question that my NYC friends have been asking: yes, there are bearded hipsters here, but no, they aren't all wearing flannel. I'll resume the good old music blogging funtimes here in a bit, but don't hold your breath on that just yet, as I've got some other business to attend to. A safe bet would be that in the Fall Subinev.com will get a makeover and [...]
Here we are, kids. Down to Sub-Inev's last weekend in NYC. It's been about 9 years, but now it's time to move and the site is coming with me. As of this coming Monday, Subinev.com will be based in Portland, Maine, and so the focus will shift to the local music scene there (I mean really, there are about 8.3 billion other - much more frequently updated - music blogs based in NY these days anyway that love to navelgaze at the local bands, right?) and I hope you'll stick around to see what I have to share about it. [...]

Since our first event last August , all of us bloggers behind After The Jump have learned a thing or two about putting on a successful music festival. I think our CMJ and SXSW showcases (and unofficial parties) helped... but whatever it was, as good as our events have been over the past year, this weekend's all day festival in Williamsburg was by far the biggest success. We had 36 bands, 4 stages, and lots of happy music fans! Thanks to all the bands, sponsors, venues, and attendees! These were some of my personal [...]

Come out to After the Jump Fest this Saturday! I'll be running around taking photos. Free t-shirts, Photographs (in a photobooth) and Giveaways all day! Plus Raffles to win a pair of tickets to Virgin Mobile Festival , VIP passes to Siren Festival , CMJ Badges and a new Zune with a free 3 month download subscription! Metromix.com , [...]
