Machinedrum – “Clissold VIP”

Machinedrum – “Clissold VIP” This man will never stop! And we hope he does not. Here's another release from who seems to be one of the busiest producers right now, Machinedrum . The track contains his signature 'from elsewhere' synths with a strong drum pattern and rumbling bass. The track gets more active as it progresses. "Clissold VIP" is due for release on April 1 via Astrophonica . Check it out below.

The Juan MacLean – “You Are My Destiny”

The Juan MacLean – “You Are My Destiny” The Juan MacLean is back with some new sounds for the dance floor. The DFA Records/LCD Soundsystem affiliate has released a fresh disco/house tune titled "You Are My Destiny". The single includes frequent collaborator and LCD Soundsystem member Nancy Whang on vocals again, just like their 2009 banger "Happy House". The full version of this track is available on vinyl but you can check out the 4-minute edit via Soundcloud below.

Julian Lynch – Lines

Julian Lynch – Lines Wholesome is not an expression you should usually attribute (unless you're trying to be offensive) to the sound quality of the instruments on an indie rock album. Most indie and pop music is rooted in a rock and blues tradition based partially on ideas of discomfort and immediacy, in stark opposition to choir music and most chamber music before the 20th century. But Julian Lynch’s Lines - an indie rock album in its own right - is wholesome, and warm, and sounds fit for a chamber performance. This is not because the songs, in and of themselves, are [...]

Major Lazer – Lazer Strikes Back

Major Lazer – Lazer Strikes Back Diplo and Switch's West Indian MC collaboration project, Major Lazer, hasn't released another album yet, but they're active on the remix and occasional single circuit. These are their latest releases, put out under the title Lazer Strikes Back . Not exactly groundbreaking - I'd prefer some entirely new material - but fun to listen to nonetheless. Get Free feat. Cashmere Cat – “Mirror Maru”

Cashmere Cat – “Mirror Maru” Norwegian producer August Hoiberg (AKA Cashmere Cat) just released his debut EP, Mirror Maru, and though the title track has been making the rounds for a few months, its been gaining some internet steam in the past few days. And it’s not hard to see why: Cashmere Cat produces the kind of DJ music that skews more towards bubblegum pop and anime theme songs than the dreaded “house music.” “Mirror Maru” is resplendent with weird squeaks, cheesy piano riffs, tom rolls, and synthetic string parts that leap at you from the 70s. There is something severely video game-inflicted about this [...]

Caveman – Caveman

Caveman – Caveman I've been listening to the new self-titled record from New York's  Caveman for about half an hour and am, against all expectations, enjoying it quite a lot. Caveman looks and sounds like a lot of hip bands right now: pictures of them joking around in the studio, one guy in a denim jacket and one guy in a vest and ascot, playing P-basses and hand percussion and generally doing all sorts of normal stuff that young hip guys in bands do in pictures. Leaning out of busses [...]

RAC – “Lovefool” (ft. Liz Anjos)

RAC – “Lovefool” (ft. Liz Anjos) Celebrating something Facebook related, RAC published his latest track: a cover of the Cardigans's "Love Fool". With Liz Anjos on the vocals, it's sweet little eletronica tune... but not as sweet as the original.

Swim Deep – “She Changes the Weather”

Swim Deep – “She Changes the Weather” This Birmingham foursome produces some delightfully airy piano pop on “She Changes The Weather.” This track has all of the angelic ambition of Oasis with more modern sensibilities - flushed out, bright pianos and high octane vocals. Check it out below.

Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience

Justin Timberlake – The 20/20 Experience A lot's changed in the past seven years. Back then, we all did our fair share of complaining, because George W. Bush occupied the White House. Oprah still had a show, as did those wacky Soprano and Bluth families. Nobody knew who Don Draper was, and nobody cared who Kate Middleton was. The year was 2006, and the millennium was still sort of a fresh, new concept. It was also the last time we had a new album from Justin Timberlake.  As much as pop culture has changed since then, the landscape of pop music has [...]

The Strokes – Comedown Machine

The Strokes – Comedown Machine It’s been roughly seven years since The Strokes started disappointing their fans. 2006’s First Impressions of Earth served as a breaking point for the New York quintet, both artistically and with respect to the group's relationship with music listeners who expected more scuzzy, urbanite rock music. Something about the album didn't sit right with many, and - for various reasons - The Strokes wouldn't release another album for five years. In a sense, though, the maligned First Impressions predicted a trend in the tastes of mainstream-oriented indie rock listeners: moving away from the scum, drugs, and privilege [...]

50 Cent – We Up (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

50 Cent – We Up (feat. Kendrick Lamar) Apparently 50 and Kendrick Lamar did a track together, and so apparently this is the second "version" of it after ousting the original third wheel, Kidd Kidd. "We Up" in its current form is surprisingly fresh, and not just because Lamar is around. Though drone-ish in his delivery, 50 cent clearly spent some time craft his rap here, especially with the rhyming. Also, K-Dot sounds so aggro here and it only makes his flow that much more punchier and seemingly crafted. Hotness.

Savages – “Husbands”

Savages – “Husbands” All-girl London quartet Savages recently made an explosive SXSW debut, and their sheer awesomeness is put on full display with "Husbands." On the cold, industrial single, razor-sharp aggression meets Siouxsie Sioux and Patti Smith, and the results are nothing short of brilliant. "Husbands" isn't totally new, but if you haven't come across it yet,  here's your chance before this buzz band completely takes over.

Wavves – Afraid Of Heights

Wavves – Afraid Of Heights The soothing sounds that introduce Wavves’s Afraid of Heights just may take you by surprise. Delicate, tinkering, and all-together charming in the most sentimental of ways, opening track “Sail To The Sun” is a warm, glittering welcome to Wavves’s highly anticipated fourth LP. That is, until it really gets going. Still, Nathan Williams makes time for romance. “I’m gonna pick you up in my arms, give you all of my love,” he croons, before adding, “First we gotta get high.” Aye, there’s the rub. Wavves have certainly come a long way, but let’s not forget who [...]

TEEN – “Carolina”

TEEN – “Carolina” Former Here We Go Magic keyboardist Teeny Lieberson leads TEEN, a relatively new Brooklyn buzz band. In 2012, TEEN released In Limbo , and will now follow their well-received debut with an EP, Carolina. Title track "Carolina" positively drips in southern charm, as Lieberson's ethereal vocals drift gracefully over a trippy, psyched-out background. And, despite its lengthy four-and-a-half minute running time, "Carolina" saves the best for last.

Phosphorescent – Muchacho

Phosphorescent – Muchacho Muchacho starts with a calyptic arpeggiation reminiscent of Jurgen Muller’s fantastic Science Of The Sea album; this is overlaid with vocals that mimic the timbre and tone of something from The Lion King and, oddly enough, follow a melodic structure similar to “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid . There is no other way for me to describe it: and Muchacho  doesn't repeat the trick. One gets the idea that “Sun, Arise!” was put on the album because Phosphorescent’s Matthew Houck just kind of liked the way it sounded. And that’s how it is for [...]

Cider Sky – “We Are In Love” (Dvbbs and Lovehaus Remix)

Cider Sky – “We Are In Love” (Dvbbs and Lovehaus Remix) Cider Sky's "We Are In Love" is some of the best indie pop out there; Dvbbs and Lovehaus's remix makes it even more appropriate for the spring weather that should have arrived by now. One can dream. Cider Sky - We Are In Love (DVBBS & LOVEHAUS REMIX) by DVBBS Cider Sky's other material is well worth checking out, too - they've got a dreamy sensibility, with hints of Bon Iver, minus the unintelligible lyrics. I've bookmarked them on SoundCloud. [...]

Fol Chen – The False Alarms

Fol Chen – The False Alarms One part The XX, one part Liz Harris, one part Trent Reznor,   and one part game theory, Fol Chen's new record The False Alarms is a pleasant and ultimately compelling trip into the world of electropop. The band is known for their pastiche approach to music-making, and have been party to a whole host of strange recordings, exhibits and instruments, but False Alarms is not so much strange as it is considerate: slow-moving, weighty, and ponderous. It's not an exciting record, but it is a deliberate one. [...]

Alela Diane – “The Way We Fall”

Alela Diane – “The Way We Fall” “Folk music” can sometimes be used as a pejorative, being that it is probably the genre of music which has most aggressively resisted substantial change. It is also - by virtue of having been derived from the music of ordinary “folk” - not often seen as particularly innovative. But Alela Diane manages to take some pretty rootsy and even country-tinged folk music and put it into the context of modern guitar acts like Torres or Mount Moriah’s Jenk Miller. “The Way We Fall” is a soulfully-inclined piece of delicious pseudo-folk indulgence, with is an enormous turn a few minutes into [...]

The Knocks – Geronimo Mega Edit

The Knocks – Geronimo Mega Edit I don't really know what a "mega edit" even is, or how it differs from a mashup or a remix. Presumably, it's better than an edit. Regardless of your terminology, The Knocks's latest release, a "mega edit" of their hit song "Geronimo" is an electric dance track, proving once again that this duo knows how to get you moving. I don't know why this shit isn't on the radio. The Knocks - Geronimo Mega Edit (The Knocks x Fred Falke x Aylen x Lazerdisk Party Sex) by The Knocks

Courrier – “Inch of Rope”

Courrier – “Inch of Rope” "Inch of Rope" is alternative rock band Courrier's newest single from the recently released album Cathedrals of Color . The Austin, TX native's harmonious voices are rich enough to make an acceptable a cappella career possible (and actually enjoyable.) Thankfully the band includes a dreamlike sound scape in songs like "Inch of Rope," with many a guitar riff and an intricate drum beat that will reverberate in your thoughts long after you stop listening. Their aesthetic sound and compelling lyric quality creates a combination that is hard not to obsess over.
