Chicago based Trouble In Mind records have a cool reissue coming out this summer of the debut LP by UK psychedelic power-pop band The Dentists - "Some People Are On The Pitch They Think It's All Over It Is Now" will be readily available on vinyl for the first time since its initial release in 1985. While the album was reissued on CD in 2005, the original Spruck Records LP has been regularly hitting $40 to $50 on eBay. The release [...]

Portland's Machu Picchu Ltd made preorders available today for their second release, a reissue of the heavy psych masterpiece "Dark Round The Edges", the 1972 album by Dark . "Dark Round The Edges" was originally released on a vanity label in the UK in an extremely limited quantity. The album has seen several unofficial reissues over the years, however the Macchu Pichu edition is officially licensed, as well as remastered. From the label's site: "One of THEE greatest guitar-heavy psych records in the world, “Dark Round the Edges”was originally issued in an edition of around [...]

I've been picking up a lot of great psych stuff lately on the UNI Label, a subsidiary of Universal and MCA which released a ton of great psychedelic albums between 1967 and 1972. Released in 1969, "Volume 13 was the first and only full length album put out out by The Yellow Payges from Los Angeles during their 5 year run from 1966 to 1970, however the group did release quite a few singles . While "Volume 13 has not been reissued on vinyl, originals can usually be found on ebay [...]

Four Thee Mighty Caesars reissues are due out soon from UK label Damaged Goods . Thee Mighty Caesars were led by the mighty Billy Childish , and also included John Agnew on bass and Graham Day on drums. The four albums, "Beware The Ides Of March" (1985), "Acropolis Now" (1986), "Thee Caesars Of Trash" (1986), and "Wiseblood" (1987), will be released on May 27th. This will be the first time any of these albums has been readily available on vinyl in over 25 years, with the exception of "Acropolis Now", [...]

I first heard the Majestic Choir & The Soul Stirrers play "Why Am I Treated So Bad" after picking up the Soul Jazz Records compilation "Chicago Blues" back in 2004. The song, written by Roebuck "Pops" Staples of The Staples Singers instantly became one of my favorite tracks on the comp. I recently was luck enough to stumble onto a cheap promo copy of the 45, which was released by the Chicago based Checker label in 1968. It's not a particularly expensive record, and if [...]

We're just weeks away from the release of the Oblivians new album "Desperation", their first new LP since the excellent "...Play 9 Songs With Mr. Quintron" record from way back in 1997. It was over a year ago when we first posted In The Red would be releasing the new disc, and finally the May 28th release date is right around the corner! Insound is already taking preorders , and it should hopefully be available directly from In The Red soon! A full Oblivians tour has [...]

The latest installment of the Bonehead Crunchers series of comps from Belter Records hits the streets this week! I'm a long time fan of DC's The Make-Up , and bought most of their more than a dozen singles as they were released, but failed to snag a copy of "Blue Is Beautiful" until this week. The debut release by the band, it was released on their own Black Gemini label, and was produced Fugazi 's Guy Picciotto, who would later produce their first full length LP "Destination: Love; Live! At Cold Rice" for Dischord. Both sides of the single are available on the 1999 K Records compilation "I Want Some", which was recently reissued [...]

Italian psych influenced beat group Gli Avvoltoi (The Vultures) recorded their debut album "Il Nostro E' Solo Un Mondo Beat" (Our World Is Just A Beat) over the course of four days in April 1988 for the Contempo label. It's out of print, but you can sometimes find it on eBay or Discogs. Check out a track from the album below!

The self titled debut from Cactus was released in the summer of 1970 for the ATCO label. Consisting of former members of Vanilla Fudge , The Amboy Dukes , and The Detroit Wheels , the group churned out some decent, albeit un-exceptional, hard rock. After initially calling it quits in 1972, the band reformed in 2006 ( check out their site ), minus singer Rusty Day who was killed during a drug deal in the early 80s. Copies of this record can be found easily enough in the wild, and they regularly show up [...]

I know it's been a bit quiet on the site this past year, but that will hopefully be changing this week, for real this time! I'll be expanding the focus of the site a bit, and instead of just posting on upcoming releases and vinyl pre-orders, i'll also be posting about recent additions to my personal collection, both new titles and old. The store page will be getting an update soon as well, hopefully by summer.
OK, so I know I said posting would resume back in April, but the last 2 months kind of got away from me. Sorry bout that. The concert season is finally slowing down a bit here in Chicago, so hopefully I should be back to posting at least 2-3 days a week soon. Thanks and keep buying vinyl! -Brian
Sorry for the lack of posts this month, the busy concert season has had me tied up with 70 hour work weeks. Regular posting on the site will resume this week, as well as a store update towards the end of the week!

Holding On , the third full-length album from Virgina Beach stoner rock maestros Freedom Hawk is now available on vinyl from Small Stone Recordings . You'd be hard pressed to find a review of these guys that doesn't mention Black Sabbath , but that's not a bad thing at all. While singer T.R. Morton's vocals have an uncanny Ozzy-ness and the disc has its share of Iommmi-esque riffs, Holding On is not simply a Sabbath clone album, but a continuation of the sound that Sabbath established. Holding On , despite [...]

Some great news to report for fans of 80s Texas punk legends The Dicks , as Alternative Tentacles will be reissuing the bands early catalog this May. The singles The Dicks Hate The Police (1980) and Peace? (1984), as well as the full lengths Kill From The Heart (1980) and These People (1985) will all be getting the reissue treatment. Most exciting is the news of a legitimate Kill From The Heart LP. While it has been heavily bootlegged over the years with varying [...]

A pretty killer 73 showed up in the mailbox this week from the Austin, TX based American Sharks . The two track single, titled "Weedwizard" was released late last month for Austin label Pau Wau Records . The a-side, "XVI" has a stoner/doom feel, while the b-side, "Indian Man" leans more towards the garage/rock n' roll side, and both sides have been racking up quite a few spins on my turntable. Pressed in an edition of 300 copies, you can pick one up for just $5 direct from the band here . Check [...]

As Above So Below , the first new album from NWOBHM group Angel Witch since the late 90s, will be released next week by UK metal label Rise Above Records . From the label about the record: "Its contents unite newly-penned yet timeless-sounding material such as ‘Geburah’, ‘The Horla’, ‘Brainwashed’ and ‘Upon This Cord’ with four long-lost tracks from the classic-era. ‘Dead Sea Scrolls’ and ‘Witching Hour’ both date back to 1983/’84, whilst ‘Into The Dark’ and ‘Guillotine’ are older still. Both were live favourites during Angel Witch’s late-1970s heyday, indeed ‘Guillotine’ was actually [...]
